Congratulations 😁👍💖🎄. As a child, in England, Mum had to pump water, heat it, then we bathed in a galvanized tub in front of the fire and, yes, outdoor toilets. I can feel the shear joy of knowing you can have a real shower. I love you can finally have a shower head adjusted to your height. Little things can be the most rewarding. Well done and on Christmas Eve. What a wonderful present to yourself. Enjoy.

Before you drywall, install some 2 bys horizontal where your towel rack and TP holders go.

Yes sir when you are building your own bathroom you put the shower head as high as you want! Raise your countertops a couple inches too, while you’re at it. You won’t regret it. Then, just pick a tall wife! I am 6’1” so I feel your pain with the low shower heads. 🇨🇦❤️

Oh, oh yeah I’ve showered in something like that plenty of times.
P.S. I think the hate on shower kits is overblown. They are installed as basic bathrooms in new construction all the time. You’re correct that one wouldn’t fit without heavy modification but I think it would be appropriate for the ROI of that house. Remember don’t overbuild.
    It looks great so far.
    Happy New Year!

Dalton, Merry Christmas. When my 30 year licensed plumber ( charged >7k) plumbed my primary bath, he was short one pex ring too. Only he didnt know it and it was under the subfloor in my living room ceiling. When we turned on the water everything was fine and my brother and I left for lunch. When we returned water was shooting everywhere, etc. This however was just foreshadowing as a couple year later a gap he left when installing the vanity allowed a feed pipe to freeze and blow the angle stop off the end. I was away ( for Christmas 2022). When i returned half the house was ruined by water and it cost nearly $500k and 11 months to repair.
You’re doing just fine because you care about the outcome, not getting paid.

I quite hope you have had a great season and I am delighted as a past lead man to a rental, dealing with a large difficult refit. There to watch real progress.
But I am curious, where are your plans?
Please understand, I cheer for your progress, but where also, the most simplified computer lay out to print paper is an assist to measurement and a forecast to refit. Also, a useful bit as might list required material. I fully understand "hands on work. The sawing and mud. " But while watching... is where I simply ask you to think about the absolute best near future.
So even, a rough plan, bill of materials is a simply assist to a goal or list of goals. Please nail, screw or glue some paper draft to that bath wall and I will be silent.
Hope it' a great new year, oh brave camper.
    M.

You: I have zero faith in this.
Us: Oh hell yes, you've got this nailed.
When you get my age, you will understand this is all part of learning and growing. There was one Minnesota winter I chose to live in a slide in topper the size of your little trailer with a small electric heater for warmth and shower at work because a hotel was more costly than I wanted to pay. You just adapt, adjust, and carry on.

Bro, your bathroom is small enough that you really should tile the whole bathroom from floor to ceiling. It looks better and no painting in the future. Just have wall niches for an in wall medicine cabinet, the tub and in the lower part of the wall for cleaning 🧼 supplies so the bathroom looks neat.

Great accomplishment, I think the only thing I would have done different is to put a stud in between the studs that are already there. More places to screw the tub to. And you don't want any flex in the tile walls in case you slip in the tub and bump into them.

Can I just say I LOVED it when you said "I'm putting the showerhead where it's right for me." I'm tall too, not as tall as you but in most of my apartments when I was young and even most hotels it's just not a comfortable experience when the shower hits at your shoulders. Make every bit of this home fit YOU.

    • @kathyhayward5730
      @kathyhayward5730 18 днів тому +2

And I have the opposite experience. I'm just 5'1" so if I forget to point the showerhead downward, which sometimes requires standing on the side of the tub so I can reach it, the water hits me in the face.

Howdy Dalton, I know how you feel. I had a shower stall with a small instant propane heater attached to the back, which I salvaged from a torn-down house in my backyard until I rebuilt my bathroom in my mobile home. I used this setup for 6 months. I hope you had a wonderful Christmas.

Doing a good job Dalton. Pex is not my thing but this is your house and you do it the way you want. Often I see someone do something on video and I want to make a suggestion but at that point the work is done. So I will suggest ahead of time. I'm not sure how cold it gets in winter there so I suggest rethinking about putting water lines in the attic unless well insulated, also. the longer the hot water line, the longer it will take to get hot water when taking a shower. Finally, consider putting soundproof insulation behind your pipes where there is a room adjacent.

From someone who just experienced a toilet blowout in finished basement from floor above, I would have a plumber review before you close it in. Looks fine but is it in long term. It seems a little loosely put together and potential for nail puncture in future. Good for you on effort

Well played by getting water going. TBH you should have finished the framing around the tub before you installed it.
Left side inside corner, wet wall side outside corner. Not to mention I am seeing old nails, etc still in the studs
from when you demoed the room. Working clean and square is the way to go. Even small things out of sequence
bite you in the *** later. If you are going to tile the surround I would add blocking for where the backer board meets
up. A "soft" tile wall don't last.

I think I would have kept the tub off the wall enough to slip your wall board material behind or I would have covered put the wall board material up first before setting the tub, also I probably would have put a horizontal studding the wall behind the tub lip for more support.

Ordered the same from Lowe’s without a hitch and picked it up. Got home and there’s the tub surround in front of the garage door from Amazon. Go figure.
