There were tons of John Deere's here in the Manitoba prairies back in the late 70's. The dealership would literally give them away to farmers who bought new 4WD tractors and big combines.

Those suckers ran great. If it’s the 440 they ran in our class. What’s crazy is the next year they made them run in super stock which is stupid because they allowed the Yamaha 440 SRX ( liquid cooled) to run in A Stock. The Yamaha had more Hp than we did but I could beat 13 out of 15 of them. I had a Arcticcat 440Z. Not Eltigre. Big difference.

I had one in 1977. Also had a brut 440, wish I’d never sold them.

Yes. I drag raced sleds from 75 to 80. The 440Z Arcticcat was much quicker and faster. FYI.

,,,,oh,,,,,but,,,,,,,I digress,,,,,,when that 1980 9500 blizzard came out(81'),,,up in N.Wis,,,.one of our rich friends showed up with one,,brand new( impressing his then girlfriend),,,..so we all had 340's,,440's,..cool,,,,but that winter was hard,,cold,,lots of snow on lakes,,...and that dude circled the lake faster than ever,,.a rooster tail of snow the whole way,,,incredible,...nothing close ever,,,until my brother bought his apex yamaha,..127 mph machine ++,,,,...that blizzard was king for 20 years where we lived,.....nothing touched it,,,,,,nothing,,,,even with 12+" of drifted snow on lake,..........,,,,,,,cool vid,,,tnx,,,land o' lakes,wi.

I had the exact same '79 Polaris TX 340.. it really wasn't that fast at all.. but I still think it is one of the most attractive, great looking hood designs of all time. Beautiful and really does "look" fast, great graphics.. but, you already know, I'm a bit sentimental. 😊😊😊😊

i bought a Indy Trail that had that same kind of setup for jets, I Robbed the Float Boals off and old XLT parts sled i had and went to conventional jets.

Had a Mercury Sno-twister 340 back in the 80's, man that thing screamed like a banshee!

I bought a Suzuki Fury 440 as a teenager in1986, and it was fast in the stock setup. I swapped in a pair of 36mm Mikuni carbs for the stock 34mm carbs, and after discovering that the stock clutch sheave had a hairline crack and was eating belts, I added a Comet 108 clutch which added an inch of extra clutch diameter and once I dialed in the clutching and belt, on top end it would outrun my buddies liquid cooled 440 Kawasaki Invader, and smoked another buddies liquid cooled Indy 400 by far. My buddy with the TNT 440 FA wasn't even a race. The sound of those twin tuned pipes and the smell of Klotz 2 stroke oil are some of my favorite memories from my youth.

I've got a 75 Merc sno-twister 440. Still has the funky handlebars on it. Gonna get it going in a year or two. Too many projects. Thanks for the video. Good stuff.

The srx was a liquid cooled engine not free air. And it better be able to out run a free air powered sled.
