Kory "I totally agree with Scott's point that the Liberals killed the CBC, you know, find an institution that you know in the media that is more unwatchable look CBC can be killed because it has no audience, that's why it can be killed because it has no audience, and why does it have no audience?? because it is about D.E.I. But the diversity portion that's left out is around thought, there is no diversity of thought in most of its programming, in most of it's priorities that it puts forward every day and it doesn't include HALF THE FUCKING COUNTRY, so maybe that is the problem there, uh so you know." David "What do you mean by that Corey?" (I thought this was a joke, but it wasn't....??) I find in daily conversations discussing topics such as the "CBC has no audience" and that "there are no conservative voices in CBC programming", many Canadians, because they've been so snowed, really truly have no idea "what you mean". The lack of diversity of THOUGHT - not race, religion, or sexual orientation - is not, and cannot be, over-indexed. The liberal culture dominance, has created a social atmosphere where it is justified to act as part of a vigilant anti-conservative thought police, this is a MEGA not A MAGA problem in Canada. Majoritarianism?? Alienating the majority should not be an acceptable byproduct, or a desirable outcome, in the pursuit of lifting up, protecting and making any minority be heard and seen. I emphatically disagree with even the idea that this is a Canadian issue. Bridling the majority is a problematic way to manage our diverse population, especially when we are already prone to saying "I'm sorry" all the time. It "others" people, and implies that there is not a central set of values through which we are connected. There ARE in fact values that are common to ALL Canadians.
Liberals so low in the polls , nothing seems to work for them, so now we get "game-show host Trudo?
David, if you believe that politics has no place in pension fund investing, tell that to Mark Carney, who is Larry Fink's sled dog at Black Rock.
can someone explain to me how the carbon tax is a deterrent tax? If corpos can just charge me more, and i get more money back than i pay in who's being deterred? Everything i read about this makes it look like a wealth transfer tax, and doesn't do a thing for climate change.
Because the tax acts as a loss for the corp. So they’re incentivized to emit less carbon. You pay more because of the tax AND because they’re producing less which increases prices . It’s a terrible policy.
@@smugdug they arnt producing less thoi just pay more. Eventually i wont be able to afford the produuct so i guess the corp not selling more good is great for the economey and government coffers
I'll admit that I was sold on the effectiveness of the carbon tax by the argument that it would incentivize demand for lower-emission alternatives. It makes logical sense, but 1) we were misled by promises of technological innovations that never materialized, 2) targeting the tax at consumers was a mistake, and 3) the money collected from the tax should have been used for R&D, not tax rebates. I support a tax on pollution. but the Liberals really failed on the execution of this policy.
@@kurtford6285 No, the laws of economics demand that once a tax is applied then production will decrease. Production has decreased which has raised prices on top of your taxes that you get to pay. Liberal party economics for you.
@@Ed-uf7mw You’d have to define “pollution”. If you mean carbon dioxide, why tax it at all? Why not slash corporate taxes for companies that innovate and voluntary reduce emissions. You’ll create jobs, wealth, AND reduce emissions. Shareholders would DEMAND that emissions be reduced while also incentivizing innovation to keep production levels at profitable levels. Taxes are almost never useful for fixing market issues. They almost always make things worse.
All I can say is that if you have not already done so, read RFK Jr.'s book, "The Real Anthony Fauci". This will provide a well abridged insight into the rot, decay and corruption in the US Public Health system over the last 50 years or more. In my opinion, RFK, Jr. is the right man for the job at the right time. Helath Canada has its own long suffering, very deep issues as well, not the least being the recent preoccupation with woke DEI gender bullsh*t derived from political "scientology".
If Jordan is right that Minister Steven Guilbeault has made the carbon tax a red line, then he really needs to reconsider if this is a hill he wants the Liberal Party to die on. I support the carbon tax as a policy, but if pausing it right now is what's necessary to prevent the death of the party and a Conservative supermajority, then we have to pause it. We've come a long way on environmental policy in ten years, don't sacrifice it all now just because you don't want to prioritize what the living humans in Canadian society need right now. We're in an economic crisis too ffs.
So our emissions went down every year over the last decade right? Oh wait 😂
Lol the carbon tax is dead. Get over it.

@@pt93music Getting emissions down was always a long-term strategy. Stronger targets would have shut down existing industry. I was sold on the effectiveness of the carbon tax by the argument that it would incentivize demand for lower-emission alternatives. David you need to crawl out from under a rock. Fewer Canadians are buying into the entire climate change narrative and the carbon tax. In an attempt to save the "climate change" narrative, it has been rebranded under "One Health" policy as telegraphed by Bill C-293. Climate is health, and everything else under the sun, except the sun. How long before the carbon tax is rebranded as the Public Health tax🙂 Kory, you are correct that the Liberals beat the Conservatives on health care every time. Trudeau won the covid election on "keeping Canadians safe". Don't be surprised if Trudeau tries to make the election about "One Health" and "keeping Canadians safe". in a world of looming pandemics and bio warfare and what ever public health boogey man he can dream up.
I disagree with Kory. I think the Ontario Liberals could win a tax cut election. If the Ontario Liberals made tax cut promises aimed at improving productivity vs recklessly handing out checks like Ford and Trudeau to increase consumption, voters would listen. Conservatives like me would gladly vote for a party that presents a solid fiscal policy that doesn’t sell the farm away at money losing EV factories and mandates. I think Kory is banking on the fiscal responsible voter to blindly vote conservative, even with gravy train ford at the helm.
So you get a tax cut but then you get the social decay and disorder associated with woke politics. To be fair, Doug Ford isn’t much better in regards to wokeness.
Fascinating conversation around the Cursed Clipping. I heard echoes of Peter Thiel’s interview with Bari Wiess where he pontificated about the left’s embrace of dogmatism with the right’s move to skepticism. As for the CBC, what a tragedy. I used to be a loyal listener/watcher, but I gave up years ago. Now their viewership is “a rounding error to zero…”, what a national shame - borne squarely by the federal Liberal Party. They took a wonderful unifying thread of Canadiana and turned it into something unrecognizable and unwatchable/unlistenable. Old man yells at cloud.
Trumps opening salvo is a 25 percent tariff, conditional on border controls, and we are talking about a GST holiday for political domestic purposes. We are not a serious country at the moment.
watch retailers bump their prices by 5%.....
That’s not how economics works lol. In fact, their prices may go down.
Canadians should be extremely grateful for our dear leaders' magnanimous Christmas benevolence showering taxpayers with their own money.
Kory Bless you on the CBC debacle
I don't need Bill C-11 to find new and interesting rules to give Ottawa's bureaucrats billable hours doing work. I want my government to print passports and keep mortar shells out of my back yard. Bizarre as this sounds, the Liberal government is too interesting. They took their eye off the ball.
""if you think that a few congressmen dotted on the border or a couple of Republican Governors will matter a ****... this is a guy who was prepared to see his vice president hanged in the Public Square!" 40:30 ... the entire rant by Scott Reid is amazing, on point, and if you're not listening to him yet it's time...
Now there is an insightful conversation. Great show David. Starting to redeem yourself. Jordan, finally, welcome to the party. You did shine:) Hey Jag, want to help some people? Put the Liberals out of their misery. Thank you for your insite.
Don’t get too excited, Singh still hasn’t got his pension yet.
Where is my previous comment? I'm with Kory. My previous message was deleted. I get it now. I won't take this podcast seriously. I will continue to Fuck Trudeau.
And where do you think the moneys going to come from
How nice now that I have retired I do not qualify for the grift of $250. Every senior on OAS and CPP is pissed. Trudeau just lost what was left of the senior vote. If Jag gives Trudeau more runway and we have to wait until Oct 25 there will be an overwhelming backlash against Jag and the liberals.
Jordan is bang on at 55:00. Herle's follow up is also spot on. Too much of Leadership came from Sales, not enough came from Operations, or anyone else who actually does anything
Thank you, good discussion.
Borrowing 6 billion to hand out for votes is not creative
Korey is on point when it comes to the CBC. Atta be
Super weak pushback afterwards from Scott and Jordan too
Who’s here for the 30 point lead from Mainstreet Research 🤚🏼
Yes, context is everything. The idea that the feds have 6 billion to spend on tax cuts for beer but not on defense to protect our trade access to Trump's America strikes me as irresponsible.
Incredibly irresponsible. This isn't the time to be trying to buy votes. We should at least be trying to be a somewhat serious country. It's shameful that Ford is doing it and and it's shameful that Trudeau is doing it.
Scott, that is your colour! Very nice.
I need a break to listen to Jane Siberry.
Thanks for this. Really great discussion. Now, how to distill all those salient points into messaging is the only remaining question. ;)
I generally always disagree with Jordan. Agnostic? I, literally, won't be buying any of this shit that is exempt. It's not part of my limited budget as a senior or before I became a senior when I raised two children alone. Hang on to your husband, Jordan, if you want to maintain this kind of reckless lifestyle. I just want to pay off my credit card from the last time I took the train to visit my children in Ontario which included renting an Air B & B. Expensive.
I'm hanging by a thread and I'd still vote for Kory.
I knew Scott would like his beer and popcorn money.
Loved this intro. Toronto Night 3 was the second greatest night of my life. The only day better was London N7 where I got to see her sell out one of eight magical nights at Wembley this summer. I'm a man, a Pierre Polievere supporter, and a passionate Swiftie who got into costume last week, came down from Ottawa, and sang for 3.5 hours straight.
You’re a flamer
Economists ? Give me a break. I’m a loyal listener of the HB and Curse but this was the first time I had to turn it off.
As a Millenial making six figures, I lose more than half of my income to taxes every year. Rental and mortgage costs are too high, and the taxes I'm paying keep going to programs for anyone else but me. No wonder Canadians are upset and looking to the Conservatives for relief from the Trudeau disaster.
This is one of the best conversations I've seen i love it your guests here are very smart and informative
Armine seems to mix up having the government subsidize a person's basic living as the same as making things more affordable and people prospering. The liberal's daycare, student food program, dental and pharmacare programs have not made life more affordable. They are very costly (to society as a whole) and ineffective treatments of the symptoms resulting from the disease of inflation - which was a result of the liberal's monetary policy, or rather lack of one. Every person, man, woman, child, senior, in Canada has seen their income decline 10 to 20% due to inflation relative to life's basic expenses. Canadian's GDP has decreased versus American's steadily since JT has been PM. These programs were not required a mere 10 years ago because most Canadians could afford these things on their own.
Once again for people in the back.....govt spending does not create inflation. Get it into your heads. With the whole internet at your disposal there's no excuse for not knowing this anymore.
The comments are hilarious and proves his point. Economic metrics are one thing. Peoples feeling are quite another.
This assumes that feelings are born out of nothing instead of real life experience and frustrations. Considering the housing crisis getting worse year by year, it's not born out of nothing, so it reads like a boomer out of touch with how much younger people are struggling.
@prophetofgreed the facts over feelings people are all about feelings apparently. Lots of affordable places outside of certain key areas. People having to move to advance economically is not new. Only new to certain coddled demographics. They can be angry all theh want. They can vote to cut off their noses. Won't make them correct about anything.
Total joke segment on housing by Jim. Jim: "Governments don't affect housing costs or set prices". Okay, Jim. What about adding 3 million consumers in 3 years to Canada? Jim: "We need to work on increasing wages" Okay, Jim, what does adding millions of unskilled workers to the service industry do to Canadain wages? It SUPRESSES WAGES! The selective thinking of Jim to favour the incumbent government is astonishing. Mental gymnastics gold medalists. Lol serious. Incredible
Sorry, how are working peeple today not worse off than EVERY OTHER generation that has come before? It takes 15 years to save for a DOWNPAYMENT for a house when it only took 3 years for generations prior. University tuition is the cost of that downpayment when it used to be a summer day job salary. Income taxes are MAXED-OUT at a level that any exonomist will tell you cannot go higher without losing competitiveness with other countries when attracting skilled workers. Its a total gong show
There's a reason Jim doesn’t cite actual inflation numbers or housing costs or costs goods and the shrinkflation of products. No numbers cited. Jim just says it's higher or lower. Cite the data, Jim. Give us a number
Canada's inflation rate is 2.4% Google is your friend.
Is Jim an absolute moron? What was the cost of housing in 2019 compared to February 2022?
Inflation rise was 30% when accounting for housing costs and goods. Wages have not risen 30%. The largest unions in Canada secured 12-14% wage increases. Note how neither of your guests cite ANY inflation numbers or wage increase numbers. What are they scared of? Stand by your claims by citing a number, Jim.
Canada's inflation rate is 2.4%. Google is your friend.
Informative interview. I always appreciate Armine's explanation. A woman's perspective really matters.
Great pod! Looking forward to next week's episode. Will you be discussing the tax cut on Beer 🍺 and Popcorn 🍿?
These are two people who are so engrained in numbers they don’t live in reality. They joked multiple times they would never get elected, but I’d go further and say these people would be on the chopping block in 1700s France. The disconnect between eggheads like this and the rest of the population really goes to show how little these people understand
Most of these comments are conservative supporters trying to get people to look away from the reality - a reality that is better than conservative politicians are letting on.
ITS HOUSING OBVIOUSLY. HOME/RENT PRICES LITERALLY DOUBLED IN TWO YEARS
You are so exciting to read. I hope someday to reach your level of nuanced being. @stratford374
Stats Canada is miscalculating inflation. They have shelter costs at 28.34% of household spending, which doesn't pass the smell test for me or anyone I talk to. A Habitat for Humanity survey has shelter costs over half the spending for 49% of households, and that was a year ago. When you recalculate inflation with shelter at 50% rather than 28.34% then we've been in a recession for a while.
Habitat for Humanity would look more at rent payers while Stats Canada looks at property owners as well. So those numbers make sense when you consider how low property tax is in big Canadian cities compared to low income Canadians forced to rent in the past few years.
In 2006 I bought a small three bedroom single detached house in downtown Guelph, Ontario for my two daughters and myself for $236,000. I would still be living in that sweet little cottage-style home in a family-friendly neighbourhood were it not for my dependence on a psychopathic ex-husband who hated my independence. So, in 2010 I downsized to a two-bedroom row-house for my two children and I which I purchased for (if memory serves me) $180,000. I couldn't possibly do this now. What was different in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2010? Oh, right, a wealthy ex-partner determined to destroy his children and me. Fast-forward to 2024. My row-house sold for just under $1,000.000. during the Pandemic. I had sold it for a meagre $267,000 to the woman who made a killing on this. Are you saying that the government had nothing to do with this? I am now a low-income renter in Montreal who will be dependent on government support until I die.
