This weekly podcast means everything to me. We wouldn't have a political polarization problem in this country if partisans from the different parties dialogued openly the way you guys do. You all have strong opinions but there's an underlying respect for each other and an unquestionable love for Canada that carries through each episode. Keep it up--we need way more podcasts like this!

Young parent here, my wife decided to take a few years off work because it was impossible to find daycare that was less than 60-75$ a day. Every time I hear that the LPC is 'delivering' 10$ a day childcare I get a little angry. I truly feel like I'm being gaslit.

What province do you live in? Because it's the feds providing the funding while the provinces are meant to implement and execute.
Some provinces have done a great job and are taking it seriously. Some are refusing to implement it or just doing such a poor job in the hopes of it failing and being repealed.
I know lots of people who have access and it saved them especially given the rising prices over the last few years.

Well at least this panel talked about the American election from a Canadian perspective. There is an unhealthy fixation on American politics within Canadian media. I'm more concerned about the emissions cap announced today than the outcome of the election. In a country lacking productivity and economic growth, these Liberal oil and gas policies are soul sucking.
Also, to correct Kory, Kamloops has had a Conservative MP since I have lived here. The NDP are at risk of losing their Kootenays, North Coast, and Vancouver Island seats.

The outcome of the US election will affect you 100 times more than whatever emissions cap or any other policy any Canadian party is proposing.

The impact of the American election will be felt around the global but in few places moreso than Canada given our close relationship.
It's kind of hard to ignore such a consequential event right on our boarder. No matter the outcome we have to be prepared and we will have to work with the incoming adminstration. And I think Canadians should be aware, though it would certainly be nice if as many people paid attention to our own elections. But that's another story all together.

@@stratford374 Korys analysis was correct, in that both Democrats and Republicans are turning into protectionist. From that stand point I'm not going to worry about what I cannot control. Living in Western Canada I am currently more concern about yesterdays announce from the Liberals. At least they were smart enough to announce it on the eve of Americas election so it flew under the radar.

Kory is dead on when he says that Liberals think that they have a comm problem not the governing problem which has been the issue
in Canada since 2015 resulted average Canadian is poorer now compared 2015.

budgets for provincial health services are around 50% or more of total provincial budgets. The numbers are so large, that for many years, ND and Liberal provincial gov'ts have used health service bureaucracies as a place to reward party faithful with high paying positions. This has gone on for so long that these health bureaucracies are bloated with "party refugees" who soak up a significant portion of budgets, and worse, provide poor public health political policy which in turn results in poor public health outcomes.

I hadn’t seen the Liberal ads yet so watched with anticipation. Verdict: Bland, not persuasive, even the font choice was boring. Unlike Kory it seemed to me that Trudeau was featured a lot more than I expected, in that his blurry figure was visible behind most of the scenes in the first ad - and was that his voice or someone who sounded a lot like him? I’m hoping for more punch in upcoming ads.

A lot of time spent on the slapdash effort of the Liberal ads. All one had to do was compare the comms value of your sponsor's ads and the Liberal's message and it quickly would have been on to the next topic. On balance, good show.

Where is the evidence that Trudeau is worth giving another chance? Nowhere!

To state that there's no functional difference between the two candidates in the American presidential election from a Canadian perspective beggars belief. To make the case so strongly speaks ultimately to the political liabilities that stem from sharing so many professional connections within political movements belonging to similar ideological stripes across national boundaries. Pollievre and Trump are not the same, but there's bound to be an overlap with some campaign staff and various professionals.
Strictly from a policy perspective, though, Trump's policies would be significantly worse for Canada. The tariffs are only the first item, there's also the plan to essentially crash the economy which Trump has been alluding to in recent rallies which will add to the economic downturn accelerated by the aforementioned tariffs. Essentially surrendering Ukraine to Russia will embolden other autocrats to engage in expansionist behaviour (read Xi's statements years ago that "the problem of Taiwan will not be inherited by the next generation"), the Middle East becomes more likely to see sustained military activity instead of pushing for a truce, and actors like Orban in Hungary and the newly elected Serbian head of state will be encouraged instead of isolated.
While there are areas of bipartisan consensus that are detrimental to Canada (see softwood lumber) there are massive differences between the two, and this time the adults in the room to serve as chiefs of staff or defense secretaries will be sidelined for hyper-partisans. The article reads as insiders talking about the resiliency of the bureaucracy, when Project 2025 is explicitly about dismantling the very thing that engenders that misguided insouciance.
I get that Kory is brilliant at thinking five steps ahead and trying to defuse the rejection of Trumpism that is shared by a majority of Canadians, and creating an alternate universe narrative that there's no difference between the two candidates. It's clever politically. But it bears no connection to reality, and is a disservice to people watching the pod looking for a nuanced appreciation of what is at stake.

      "Hurley Burleyites"...
David H. said recently to Wells & Maher.."We've all met the PM"..implying or asking for a shared appreciation of His intelligence. Mr Hurle isn't distant from a political jester altho he appeared to value the collective assessments of the two Trudeau quasi-novelists.
PS; reading Well's book was halted at page 13. This Marxian quartet is comedic if lacking the gentler nuances of political vaudevilleans.

Hogwash. The tariffs are a threat to change behaviour. Not a plan to crash the economy. If Canada met or exceeded their military spending targets and negotiated in good faith on free trade there is nothing to worry about.
