good choices on all. love the judge. I like the model 513-"Raging Judge" = 454 Casull, 45 Colt & 410 3". (I'm guessing when ya said ya carried 3.5" shells in your judge, ya mis-spoke? or have I just not heard of a 3.5" 410?) I have tried those PDX-410 loads and they are under powered terribly, they look good on paper & on targets but just no energy, even up close. Love the 3" Buckshot loads for 410, they pattern ok in a judge as long as ya dont try to shoot over 10-12 yards, pattern in crazy, and just like you mentioned with the birdshot loads, the rifling spins the shot load to where it has no real range, ya gotta get close to your game.

I really appreciate your comment mate! You’re absolutely right about me misspeaking. I went back and looked at the video and I misspoke not once but twice…for some reason I had 31/2” on my brain that day. Thanks for correcting me! The Judge sure has a lot of haters. I got more negative comments about the Judge than everything else combined. I’m also with you on the Raging Judge. I truly lust after one but they’re a bit more than this cowboy makes if you can find one. Thanks for the info on the PDX rounds. I’ve shot a couple of them but never put them to any kind of test. I have tested 000 and #4 buck and found they do a pretty decent job within its range limits. I also got a decent group with the.45 Colt at 25 yards. The whole idea with the PDX was to take out sense organs off horseback where it’s impossible to get a stable shot off. I’m rethinking that! Cheers!!!

You don't need to carry an empty chamber on a gun that has transfer bar there is no way you can strike the hammer hard enough to ever fire around because there's nothing in between when you talk to hammer and pull the trigger the bar drops and the hammer strikes it before I can drop down if the hammer is not cocked the action bar is not up and there is zero contact with the round, it's completely Unnecessary and Taurus revolvers Especially A judge

Greetings from the Lower 48 (PNW), Suns out, but still 32 degs.! Sitting comfortably at my table enjoying your hard-won wisdom! Want to mention, some folks migrated from my old home town to Homer decades ago. Glad you rescued that old Ontario butcher knife, got one myself, and several Forgecrafts. Like and use one of their stiff boning knives. Have used Western and Queen versions of your little Case, like to know the back story on that one! As an old Maint. I have a judge that I carry whenever I'm hiking, camping or the like. I keep the first loaded with birdshot (snakes), then two buckshot (coyotes or feral dogs) and the last two are 45LC (black bear). I've put hundreds of rounds of all sorts through it shooting for fun and never had an issue beyond some 410 cases getting sticky in the cylinder. Like all guns she's got her brand preference for ammo. Though by the sound of the comments section alot of gear queers have their noses up at certain brands too. It's a handy and versatile piece of kit that like any has it's pros, cons, and use case in some scenarios vs others. Would I use it for door kicking in Fallujah? No, but I'm not liable to be doing so up on the mountain side and carrying one gun that does most is better than two guns that do all when I'm unlikely to need it at all and every ounce counts! Especially after a couple dozen miles. Same folk complaining are the ones who'll say "rossi lever is trash just spend the extra several hundred on a henry!" instead of just slicking the action up themselves and putting in the work. My 2 cents on the matter

I’m very happy to say I haven’t. I’ve been close to them on horseback several times but thankfully they ran off. I also keep a clean camp and never had a bear in camp, it might also help that I have my dog with me all the time. Come to think about it, I’ve never heard of anyone being attacked while they were on horseback! Could be bears associate the smell of horses with something quite negative🤷‍♂️ cheers mate!!!

I was kind of surprised with the Judge and selection of rounds for the shotgun. I thought I would hear 10mm or 44mag for the sidearm. I also thought slugs would be the first choice for bear in that shotgun. I don't live there and it's not my business to say what anyone should carry. You live there and are more experienced in what works for you. I really envy your lifestyle for sure. Best of luck in all your adventures!!
