The Western Side of Guadalupe Mountains | A Backpacking Preview
This is a quick preview of a full length video from a recent backpacking trip to the Western side of Guadalupe Mountains National Park. This was a 2 night trip where we hiked and explored the park over 30 miles of hiking. We stayed at Shumard Campsites and spent plenty of time hanging around the Williams Ranch House. We also explored a part of the park that I have never been to and I'm guessing almost everyone has never seen before.

Hiking 20 Miles Through Fall Foliage at Cleburne State Park | 4 Loops Hike
Переглядів 27414 днів тому
Another installment in my quest to hike 5 Loops consecutively at Cleburne State Park. This trip I was able to complete 4 loops in 5 and a half hours through some AWESOME fall color. This week is definitely the peak of fall foliage at the park. North Texas isn't really known for fall foliage, but Cleburne State Park is a hidden gem.

The 4th annual Texas Backpackers UA-cam Meetup was the weekend prior to Veteran's Day at South Llano River State Park near Junction, Texas. We had a good group of channels represented this year; including a couple new channels. We missed some old friends that have been at previous Meetups. We had a great time talking UA-cam, camping, past and future trips, and life beyond the outdoors. Night 1 ...

This was a quick, overnight trip into the Guadalupe Mountains of West Texas. I had several mountains I was wanting to summit in a short amount of time. On day 1, I arrived at the park and started hiking (after a 7.5 hr drive) by 10am. I was able to summit Pt 6756 (Tejas Arch) and Bush Mountain (2nd Highest Mt in TX) before camping overnight at the Bush Mountain Campsite. On day 2, I dayhiked to...
Hiking 16 Miles at Cleburne State Park | 3 Loops Dayhike
Переглядів 248Місяць тому
Earlier this year I started hiking a loop in Cleburne State Park (Texas) that was exactly 5 miles, with a goal of adding on additional loops throughout the year. On this hike I did 3 loops for the first time. I hope to be at 5 loops by the end of the year or at least sometime during the winter. If you go out to Cleburne and hike this same loop, I'd love to hear about your experience.

This was the 9th and final highpoint of our 2024 Summer Highpointing Roadtrip. We travelled to the summit of Iowa, Hawkeye Point (Elev. 1670 feet), on July 7, 2024. Beautiful day and we loved our time at the summit. There was so much to see. Iowa has really put a lot into this park. The boys were feeling inspired (we had just been to the Field of Dreams) and played a lot of catch in the beautif...

Charles Mound is located on private property in the Northwest corner of Illinois. The property owners allow public access to the "summit" on certain weekends each year. You can find more information out by visiting the Highpointers website or Facebook page. This was our 31st State Highpoint as a family. And definitely the buggiest. I'm not sure if it's usually this way but the bugs were terribl...

Unboxing My New Ultralight Backpack You've Probably Never Heard Of!
Nice video Cameron! Did the El Capitan hike from Pine Springs out to Shumard and Williams ranch house on April 8, 2024 the day of the total eclipse. It was epic for me and one I'll never forget. I think it was even more epic than the trail up to McKittrick Ridge although they are just so different. Thanks again!
Wow, that is very cool. Was that in the path of totality? Those trails are about as different as you can get in the park for sure.
@@CameronHall88 No sir, not totality. But it was a decent amount. I was a little hesitant to be looking up with the pack on the narrow path/steep slopes, ha, but the shade was really nice while it lasted.
Da viewwwwwwws !!!
We came across some awesome Canyon views. And looking up at the mountains from down below is always really cool.
Big DAy! wow that's a lot of loops/ beautiful fall hike. love the long straight tree corridor! thanks for taking us along
cool artifacts and Awesome mountain views thanks for taking us along
Yeah, the well area was really neat. Had never seen a video from out there. Definitely worth the hike out. Thanks for watching.
Beautiful hike!!
Thanks. It was pretty. Just LOTS of bugs.
I have not been on the western slopes "yet". Looks great.
Such a cool part of the park. Just a little harder to get to. Thanks a lot for watching.
Talked to Travis about y'all's trip last night, so dope. I'm looking forward to seeing more footage from Pure Well. I had no clue it was so far away from the ranch! He told me you didn't make it all the way to goat :( just means you gotta go one more time...
Maybe when I can drive up the road. There were game trails, and at least the part i did was not super hard, but I think I would have run out of time trying to make it to the ranchhouse by sunset.
I think this was your best video yet. Well done. I haven’t been to that side of the park and you did it justice.
Thanks a lot. It's such a cool part of the park. Just a little hard to get to.
That's a great video! I really enjoyed it.
Thanks! I appreciate you watching.
I love it!
Thanks Jerry!
Great hike. I have been wanting to go to Williams Ranch myself.
It is such a cool spot. The El Cap Trail is tough but way easier than I remembered.
@@CameronHall88 the last time I saw a video of you doing the El Cap trail the wind like to blow you over the entire time
hell yeah!
Pretty great trip. Travis pointed out a mountain or two that we could see from our camp that you are planning on hitting.
@ must be the Winds
It’s surreal to think that I was lounging on the porch at Williams Ranch House with the person who inspired me to try backpacking in the first place. Sore knee and prickly pokes aside, it was truly an incredible adventure. Thanks again for inviting me, Cameron!
Thanks for going. You're a great hiking partner. I've already had Olivia pulling random thorns out of me. Still a great trip!
Was that Travis T with you? These new style videos are great Cameron. A nice presentation of what's to come. Very well done and I bet y'all had a great time.
It was. Good eye! He's a great hiking partner. We had a great time on a tough trip.
Beautiful. I still gotta get out there.
For sure. So much to see and explore at the park.
Correct. Never have been to this part, like most. What is the music track...me like?
It is Joe Pug, Hymn #35. I used it because I used it on one of my very first videos, which was the last time I made it out to this part of the park.
Solid tips
Thanks for watching! I appreciate it!
As A Person In Michigan, I Wasn’t Expecting To See This Video
I'm considering hiking cus it seems to be cheaper than many other outdoor sports and it better be cuz if not I'm not investing thousands of dollars I'm not rich enough to spend 1000 usd on this I just need a sport that gets me out moving
Doing a solo overnight on the peak in January. I expect near zero on the mountain at night. Only thing that worries is me that I’ve only ever traveled in “bear country” with others, never solo. Not sure how active they are in January.
@mtb416 absolutely no need to worry about bears. A bear sighting in the park is extremely rare. I would consider yourself one of the luckiest people ever if you were to see a bear anywhere near Guadalupe Peak.
@@CameronHall88 Thanks for the reply. Does this mean that most forgo hanging their food up/using a canister?
@mtb416 i would say the majority of people don't hang or use a canister. But some definitely do. I'd be more worried about skunks, ringtails, and mice than anything. I always sleep with my food and have never had a problem. I do keep it with me anytime I walk away from another, though
You obviously have no clue what you are talking about. Before you start giving advice, you should probably learn a bit of Scots Irish history.
@JoeMoore-l9u yes, I am dumb. But I do my best.
@@CameronHall88 There are thousands of those rock stacks all over Appalachia that have been in place for hundreds of years. Scots Irish settlers made those while clearing and marking lands they settled from the 1500s.
I’ve been there shocker I live in ks
Great review! I hope to make it here sometime soon as I have never even been to Texas
Some of the info in this video is out of date now. (Such as the park now has a reservation system) I plan to redo this video in 2025. I hope your trip works out. Thanks for watching.
Fat Thor loop ha!
@@OliviaHall-q1p hey, you're cute. Thanks so much for watching! Call me sometime ...
Didn’t know that’s what you meant when you said come hang out with you guys. 😂. Looks you all had a great time. Glad the encounter was peaceful. A story you will tell forever.
Yeah, you definitely missed it. Or were fortunate that you did. Hopefully you can make it next time!
Oh we getting 5 loops Friday
Why stop there. Maybe 6 or 7.
@CameronHall88 don't tease
That explains the rumor I heard that these meetups were clothing optional.
Yeah,I i guess nobody took the option until this year.
Wow trail runner speed, and the colors better than Los Maples - gorgeous park, I vote for cherry cane too :).
I don't know about trail runner speed. Maybe next year. The leaves were great this year for sure. There are sections of the park without much. But the trees we do have are great. Cherry is the best! Team cherry!
I'm always grateful for when you post a new video, your videos inspired me to start hiking these state parks. While life is busy happening your videos always get me back into the woods for a hike. Thank you!
Thanks, Maureen. That means a lot. I really appreciate you watching and taking time to comment. Happy hiking!
Gorgeous trail man, area looks so enjoyable and simply gorgeous! Love it 🥾
I think overall spring may be prettier with the wildflowers, but for a week or two in fall, the leaves put on a show. Thanks a lot for watching.
i think i saw bigfoot
😆
Only candy cane for me is pure chocolate! I enjoy your hikes. Central Oklahoma here and I’m headed to see my grandson in Bandera soon. Planning to go to Cleburne on my way.
I don't think I've ever had a chocolate! I'll have to give it a try. Thanks so much for watching. Safe travels on your trip.
You're putting in a lot of work! Planning on some tough hikes in the future? I like the ring to Fat Thor Loop. Great video.
I don't have anything specific planned. But I'd like to get back into harder and bigger trips. Will be making multiple trips to the mountains of West TX this next year. I hope to get into some cool stuff.
Found your channel a few years ago researching the OML trail at Big Bend
Awesome. I appreciate you hanging around. I am going to try my best to get back to Big Bend before they close the Chisos in May.
Not a bad pace even for flat land! I have actually been craving traditional candy canes so far this season
I do like regular candy canes. I haven't had one yet this year. I'd like to get my pace up over the next year. I'd love to get to where I could jog the majority of it. But I'm a long way off from that.
Well, you busted my old personal best out there. Mine was a little over 15. I love those times when we get some real fall colors in the park especially when Camp Creek is running and those huge Burr oaks are dropping the giant mossy cup acorns. I've seen a lot of changes in the parks and trails over my years but I've always felt greatful to have this as a home park. Before I went to Colorado or Arkansas I would hit these trails hard. Beautiful colors and great effort Cameron. Was it good for your inside ? 🤓 P.S. the next time I see you I have an old Cleburne missprint hiking medallion for you.
Misprint!? 😄 Yeah, it definitely feels great getting back to hiking more regularly. And realizing that that is what is making me feel better.
Pretty good colors happening there. Good hiking, Cameron!
Yeah, i was thinking it'd be an off year. But they turned out pretty good this year. Thanks for watching, Jerry!
@ You’re welcome.
Great Video !!!
Glad you were able to make it. It was great meeting you!
That's a trip with the naked man 😂 Looked like fun hanging out.
Yeah, pretty weird situation. But the rest of the trip was fun. Not as much hiking as I would like but the best part of these trips is hanging out with everyone and talking around a fire.
Great job! Fun to relive a great adventure!!
Glad you guys were able to make it again this year!
Looks like a fantastic meet-up. South Llano River State Park is a nice place. When I met up with Jerry in Fredericksburg, he gave me the low down on the naked man.
It was quite the experience. Haha. I saw the pictures of you and Jerry. That's cool yall were able to meetup!
@@CameronHall88 Jerry is a good guy.
Drugs and guns. How comforting. 🙄
Fantastic representation of the weekend!! It was a ton of fun! We look forward to this every year!!! We look forward to this event continuing to grow!! Let’s all keep groovin’!!!✌️
Yes! I'd love to add new channels next year. I'd definitely love to be able to hike more, but my favorite part of these trips is all of us sitting around in the evening talking about trips and UA-cam. Glad we were both able to make it this year. Great seeing yall again!
Looks like a great time Cameron. I am a fairly new channel @outdoorseyadventures. I hike, camp and plan my first backpack trip to Big Bend in January. I would love to join this group.
Yeah, for sure. We'd love to have new backpacking channels join us!
Great video! Thanks for letting us go on the trip virtually with y’all. I am sure your new acquaintance was an interesting fella and it’s a dang shame nobody knows if he has a UA-cam channel. The story from his point of view has to be as big a doozy as yours is! 😂 Hopefully all is well with him, the dog and Craig’s pants!
😂
I never even thought about that! A video from his perspective would be awesome. I'm sure Craig's pants are keeping him warm as winter is getting closer!
Love these videos when they come out! I am sure the big event made the meetup memorable, but it also seems to have taken away from a lot of the actual hiking experience you guys wanted to have. Hopefully the next one has less naked interlopers :)
Yeah, I was definitely wanting to hike more. We were in the process of rounding up anyone who was wanting to hike that afternoon. Luckily, I think, we were still around when all of that went down. Or I might not have believed them when I got back. Hopefully, next year, we'll be able to hike more. I might tweak the format a bit next year to allow for that, but I'm still giving it some thought.
Than you Cameron and Olivia It was a great weekend ! Until next year :) Let’s see what we find lol
Great seeing you again, Liz! Hopefully we find everyone clothed and in their right mind.
low key Pam Bales stuff
I never thought of that. We're all basically heroes. Haha.
Yep! Ha ha. I need to start taking my GoPro out on trips so I can get an invite. Is there a backpacking recording gear video you’d recommend?
Man, what a groovy time at South Llano. Lol Y'all will never forget this meetup. Great video Cameron and wonderful time with friends. I hate I missed it. I've always said Craig and Barbara are the most generous folks on UA-cam. Pizza Pizza / underwear ✌
❤
There was something being said about the 3 P's they provided on this trip. Pizza, (fire) pit, and pants. Or something like that. They are the best. We definitely won't forget this one. Wish you could have joined us. I'd love to have seen you dealing with the naked guy. 😄
Excellent video, Cameron! Looking forward to next years. Happy holidays to you and the family!✌️
Thanks, Jerry. Glad you could make it again. A lot of great comradery around the fire and at dinner. That's probably my favorite part of these trips. Hope we can all do it again next year with some new channels.
