I'm glad to hear you're enjoying the Kate Elliott series. I'm interested to find out what you think of the next book as I may be nudging it up my TBR. I'm like you with No Land For Heroes. The setting wouldn't normally appeal but it's a great premise and I enjoyed Cal's short story and her writing style in The Advent of Winter anthology.
Im on book 4 of crown of stars and based on how slow I've been at getting to the audiobook, maybe we'll end up reading it at the same time! I appreciate how the plot and magic intertwines through the series so far. Definitely a slow build.
I weirdly love those old quirky Kate Elliott covers hahah. And oooh I really hope you have a great time with No Land for Heroes, I need to re-read that so badly and get to the sequel. Happy reading!
Well, it looks like I have more books to add to my massive TBR. These sound so interesting! My favorite book of 2024? Probably Recursion by Blake Crouch. I hope to read Dark Matter next...sometime this year. Thanks for sharing and happy reading!
hmm good books!! added them to my TBR Dominish.
Your recommendations are great ! I have read a few..looking forward to read them allll..
Thank you, I hope something turns out to be a winner for you.
I'll check then out
I love Eleanor's motivations for picking those gifts hahaha. Great haul! Hope you enjoy Supplicant when you get to it, as well as the Brotherhood of the Eagle 🤩
And every other book that makes an appearance, to be fair!
Oh, hey, “The Darkness Before Them”! I really enjoyed that one, more than “The Legacy Trilogy” FWIW… I also have “The Godsblood Tragedy” so keen to hear about that one.
That's good to hear!
Great haul, Dom. Happy reading. I'm looking forward to hearing how you get on. 😀
Thanks Nick!
Very interested in the NC Scrimgeour series. Have it in on audiobook but haven't started. I wonder how it compares to the Front lines series by Marco Kloos. My XMas Reads: Tusks of Extinction by Ray Naylor-- Hardish SF about a Elephant Expert, who was murdered by poachers but had had her brain copied to computer is downloaded into a resurrected mammoth to teach the other mammoths to function as mammoth....and deal with human BS. Bringing Back the Rain by Bob Mcgough-- 1st in a series about a Meth addicted Wizard from Alabama.
I've not heard of Front Lines, will check it out. NC Scrimgeour did a great job with The Waystations Trilogy though, I really liked the audiobooks, but sadly book 3 wasn't on audio by the time I came to read it.
Random book question. It has been years since I have read The Dwarf series by Markus Heitz. I’ve noticed a fifth book on your shelf. I can’t remember a lot of details from the series, do you think I should re read the first four or can I jump into the fifth? Xx
Honestly, I couldn't tell you. It's been years for me as well, and I haven't actually gotten round to reading the fifth yet...
John Gwynne is somehow still underrated. More people should be talking about his books. Thanks for giving him some love!
I get that. One one hand he seems massive, and on the other somehow underrated as you say. It's a bit of an odd one!
I appreciate your channel because it's not always the same stuff everyone else is yapping about. It's nice to hear about under-the-radar authors, or books by popular authors that aren't their bestsellers. Thanks for posting.
Thanks! It would be boring if everyone just talked about the same books all the time! 😀
Very interesting list! I haven’t heard of half of them so I’ll need to add to my TBR. I think my favorite book was To Green Angel Tower by Tad Williams
I'm hoping to enjoy Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn this year too.
Orconomics is brilliant! And the narrator hits it out of the park on the audiobook.
These are great videos. How do you do the graphics and animation?
Thanks! I use Photoshop to put things together, and then animate using my video editing software, DaVinci Resolve.
So many to add to my future reading!! I’m still deciding my 2024 favorites.
It was a tough one for me, but more so the ordering of some of them!
@ I don’t think I’ll be able to order mine at all.
I really need to read the new Feist books. I've read everything in Riftwar too, so I'm sure I'll love the new ones. My top books of 2024 include: the entire Age of Madness trilogy, Blackwater Saga, Pillars of the Earth, Empire of the Damned by Jay Kristoff, Demon in White by Christopher Ruocchio, The Will of the Many, a couple of the Dungeon Crawler Carl books, the Final Architecture series by Tchaikovsky, Going Postal, and I guess I can add Nettle and Bone by T Kingfisher. I read Nettle and Bone on holiday in Peru. I remember reading it on the train to Machu Picchu, so it's kinda meaningful.
That sounds like an awesome experience!
This man deserves far more viewers!
Thank you, kind sir!
I'm glad you had a good year of reading, Dom. I loved Hall of Bones too and book 2 was a superb sequel. I'm aiming to read 3 and 4 this year. I'm also a big fan of John Gwynne. The Faithful and the Fallen and Of Blood and Bone are among my favourite series so I'm expecting great things from The Bloodsworn Saga when I get to it. Petition and quite a few of the others sound like they're reads I'd enjoy so they'll be added to my TBR after watch this. I hope 2025's reading is as good for you as 2024.
Thanks Nick, and the same to you!
This list really opened my eyes - I'd only heard of 1 of the books and 2 of the authors. Thanks for the video!
Thanks - and it's always pleasing to hear books finding a new audience!
@@dominishbooks yes, this is definitely one of the more unique top 10's that I've seen!
I loved the witty and sarcastic dialogue and narrative style and the focused prose, but what i started off really enjoying because it was something so different and fresh for me became a bit stale by the time I was halfway through it. I found the character cast somewhat one dimensional and the worldbuilding lacked the richness that I seek from my fantasy reads. The plot was also not anything grabbing. This is my first DeCastell novel and I can definitely see the appeal, but am assuming that this is one of his works that doesn't quite stick the landing. I still intend to read Play of Shadows later this year. Overall, I would give this a 3⭐️
Thank you so much Dom!!!! I also really enjoyed Umbra! Malevelolent Seven has been on my radar so it's great to hear that one has a good audiobook!
No, thank *you* EL!
Feeling tremendously honored to be featured in such wonderful company! Several of your top picks are on my TBR though I don't know when I'm going to be able to get to them since I'm such a mood reader. As for my 2024 ranked picks, I didn't do enough reading to do a top 10, but here's my top 5: 5. He Who Drowned the World by Shelley Parker-Chan 4. Speaking Bones by Ken Liu 3. The Sunforge by Sascha Stronach 2. Exordia by Seth Dickinson 1. Song of the Mysteries by Janny Wurts
Well deserved! Now to find the space to fit in Supplicant!
Yay, Delilah!! Congrats! @delilahwaan
A bit surprised...but a great list nonetheless!👍👍👍📚🤖🚀🐲
I read Fury of the Gods last year and it was every bit as good as you said. I'll definitely read everything else on this list. Thank you so much for this.
Heliotrope spotted, nice.
Where? Don't get me wrong, Heliotrope is a good book, but I read it back in 2022 anyway 😁
Well would you look at that, I should've put out some guesses after all because there were quite a few that I'd have gotten right. Can't believe I still haven't read Petition and Talonsister after all your gushing. And heeeeck yes for Hall of Bones and UMBRA. Hope you find many more new faves in this new year! 🤩
I've been considering locking you out of the Discord until you've read them both! (Obviously I would never...)
@@dominishbooks I wouldn't even blame you if you did, I would lock myself out 🤣🤣
All this sounds interesting, happy new year to you and your family!
Thanks, and to you!
I’d like to give Jen W another chance. I wasn’t a big fan of Ninth Rain trilogy
I think it's maybe a very different style. From what I've heard, the Ninth Rain isn't something for me, but I enjoyed the Talon Duology, and I enjoyed The Copper Promise, too.
I’ve had Starlight Jewel for a long time and need to get to this.
Oh wow, I didn't expect to feature in your top 10, so that's brilliant! I also plan to return to reading John Gwynne this year and Delilah Waan is on my TBR as well. In terms of favourites, I pick mine in the summer (I just had to be different 😂) and The Hallows by HL Tinsley took the top spot in 2024. Well worth checking out.
Congrats! 😁 And I did try The Hallows, but it's not my thing, so I didn't end up finishing it.
I just finished brotherhood of the eagle and absolutely loved it!!!
My favourite book of 2024 was Gardens of the Moon by Steven Erickson. A brilliant start to the Malazan Book of the Fallen.
What I generally hear is that people who like Malazan tend not to like GotM so much. I really enjoyed GotM too, but didn't get on with the rest of the series. I hope you have better luck and enjoy them all!
@@dominishbooks I'm currently on book 8 and still going. So it's worked out alright for me.
Best way I’ve found to read Malazan is to just chug through the first book and a half. Deadhouse Gates is better during the last half. Once you read through 3 and 4, it’s hard to not “get it” and want to continue through the series. Some of the absolute most brilliant writing and worldbuilding. It’s also very interesting to listen to Steven Erikson discuss his own works. The man is also an archeologist and anthropologist, so the worlds and cultures are that more amazing.
Great list - Petition sounds like my type of book. I will deffo give it a read
Thanks, and yeah, Petition was a blast!
Advent of Winter novel! Go Karim!!
🥳🥳
Shroud sounds so amazing! Really looking forward to that as well x3 Happy reading!
This makes me so glad I semi-blindly bought the broken binding editions of the Talon Duology. Can’t wait to read those! -Tabatha
Eating up all the stats hahahah. You've got me very excited for the Talonsister duology! And I can't wait to read Karim's new book. Hope you carry the good vibes into 2025, happy reading 🤩
Me too. I can't wait😅
@@karimsoliman1611 it's on the plans for march hehehe
@@esmayrosalyne 🥳🥳
I think you'll love the Talon Duology, I might have said that before though!
You DNF'd one of the best sci-fi/science fantasy series ever written
It's all subjective. It didn't work for me, and that's fine - it's really worked well for plenty of others.
Loved hearing your stats! I want to keep better track of my series this year.
Thanks, and good luck with your tracking!
@ Thank you!
🥳🥳🥳👍👍👍📚🤖🚀🐲
I'm glad you thought Titanchild was as strong as the first book! I had to order it from the UK and I'm excited to see what happens next. Although I need to remind myself of the characters/etc from book 1!😂
Remembering the characters was fine for me for the most part, it was just remembering where everyone was that took me a while!
Happy new year! Sounds like you had a good reading month. I think I read 8 items in Dec, although two were comics and one was a manga. I was trying to reach 100 books on Goodreads, so I had to read short things. Most of my month was consumed by Wind and Truth. It was fine. My book of the month was The Will of the Many. It was really good. Maybe not the best book of the year, like I've heard some booktubers say, but definitely good. I'm excited for the second book in the series.
Wind and Truth seems to be a bit hit and miss, from what I'm hearing. The Will of the Many always seems to go down well though.
@dominishbooks I actually liked W&T, but it's definitely not perfect, and I understand the criticism. I'm not giving up on Stormlight Archive or the cosmere. Lol
You're a fascinating booktuner because you read books I've never heard of by authors I've never heard of. Other booktubers all seem to read the same clutch of authors. Where do you get your ideas for books from, are they recommened by friends or do you just pick book titles you like?
Thanks! I only read what I genuinely want to read. I find new books in a variety of places, connecting with authors and readers on social media is probably where I've learnt about new books the most though.
Harlequin’s Legacy is on my list for this year too. It sounds fun.
Yay for Dragonbone Chair! Simon is sup to be an ordinary kitchen boy so his name is common
Oh, it's not the type of person, it's the setting for me. Having such "ordinary" names in a fantasy setting just feels weird.
They sound like a varied mix to get 2025 off to a good start. Happy New Year and happy reading Dom. Orconomics has been sat on my Kindle for a while too and I've got quite a few physical Kate Elliott books, including King's Dragon, which I've not read yet so I'm interested to hear how you get on. The Heart of What Was Lost and The Witchwood Crown are this month's reading plan for me.
Thanks, and happy New Year to you too! I'm hoping King's Dragon is going to do well - I could do with a good epic series to start up!
I'm really looking forward to Shroud!!
It's going well so far, a little darker than a lot of Tchaikovskys though, I would suggest.
Crown of Stars is wonderful!! I hope you enjoy it!
I hope so too!
