Adirondack Hunting Teardrop and Hot Tent Camping - Escapod Topo 2
Welcome back for another adventure!
This time I'm out with my brother Mike and Grayson for our Veterans Day weekend trip. We do a bit more hunting this year and scout out future good dear hunting spots for next year. We camp out my Escapod Topo 2 and my RBM Hot Tent. This will hopefully be my new sub zero temp setup going forward. The setup worked perfectly on this trip. I hope you stick around for the video and leave a comment on what you think. Don't forget to like and subscribe if you enjoyed the video. Thanks everyone. Cya on the next one!

Solar VS Gas Generator - Which One Is Best For RV BOONDOCKING?

Hey everyone, Welcome back for another video. I decided to do this video after my last trip with my buddy Grayson and his family. They got a new RV and borrowed my Bluetti Solar Generator to supplement their on board battery system. Meanwhile our neighbers at the campground were running their gas generator to power their RV. During that trip I learned a lot about realistic uses of both setups a...

Hey everyone. Welcome back for another adventure. This was supposed to be a nice easy camp out. The weather was originally going to be in the low 20's with about mid 20 MPH winds and an inch or 2 of snow. Unfortunately that is NOT what I got. Hi mate! Fjällraven is definitely not known to be light products, they go more for durability. But when they try to go light, they make a lot of weird choices that ads weight. I have this jacket myself and I agree with some of your points. Definitely not a -20c jacket! But I did not expect that from this jacket either. The seams are sewn all the way through, and this makes it a natural heat loss spott. Absolutely a three season jacket. If you would like a warmer fairly light (at least in Fjällraven land) jacket, Keb Expedition Down Jacket is a great jacket! I couldn't find it on the american website tho, not sure if it's discontinued. regards a former Fjällraven employee :)
@Orjankm24 agreed fully. I can't remember if I mention the sown through baffles or not but that's definately something I noticed as well. Cheers.
Hey brother stumbled across your channel because half my UA-cam is camping and survival videos ... Nice to see a local guy out there making this type of content. And also you probably already know but if you don't there's a pretty cool FREE dry campground not far from Watkins Glen in Sugar Hill State Forest... There are a couple people who camp there and bring their horses but for the most part it's pretty empty and quiet so no annoying lights lol. I took my hot tent up there last October and camp there a few times every summer it's a nice quiet place with lots of trails to explore I think you'd like it if you haven't been
@chuckmorse2460 Hey thanks for watching. Glad your enjoying the content. I do my fair share of hot tent camping too. Love it. I have sugar hill on my radar but haven't yet tried it. I might try that out this December for a hot tent trip. Thanks for the idea!
Awesome video! I was just up there last month, site 129. All the sites near water were taken but that was alright, I was close to the head, showers and water faucet 🤣 hey, those things are important when you reach my age 😆 Don’t you find that editing ASMR is so much easier? Don’t have to worry about all the jibber jabber 😂 Cheers 🍻
HAHA yes I love being close to those amenities as well. Editing ASMR videos can be easier however the one thing I'll say is, its a little more work to capture the story without talking. I like to try to capture what the trip felt like and that can be tough without talking. The editing is definitely easier if you get the shots you want.
Nice memories made for you and the missus. That last stretch hiking up Blue Mtn can get the heart rate going. Love they way the tarps connect to the awning of your escapod
haha funny story about that. Rachel and I had another hike picked out but because Grayson said blue mt was easy and only like a half hour hike we decided to go that route instead. Spoiler alert, its not a half hour and not exactly easy either lol. But it was TOTALLY worth it! One of the best views I've ever had of the mountains! Any views easier to get to that can compete with that view?
@@AbundantAdventures I've replied with hiking recommendation 2x and for whatever reason the post doesn't appear.
2 Good hiking options in that area include Coney Mountain and Buck Mountain. If you google them you will see hike details.
@@CanoeCampClimb I will definately look them up. If they can some how be shorter of a hike and still get those amazing views, ill have to hike them. That was just an amazing view up there! As always, the camera just never does it. Got to be there in person....
@@CanoeCampClimb I see the post and replied to it. I'm going to check those hikes out for sure! Thank you.
I love these ASMR videos! It's very entertaining and high quality.
Thanks. I really enjoy the ASMR style videos myself so its great to hear others enjoy them too!
Nice... Liked it... Subbed. Thanks

I don’t have this Jacket but do have other Fjallraven G1000 gear. The G1000 fabric gets better with age. After a few wears and washes it softens and moulds to your body.
@lachlanmaple4868 absolutely. Seems to get better with age.
All their G1000 products come pre-waxed and you are just washing out the wax which makes the material softer. The tradeoff is you are also losing water and wind resistance.
@@martink7279 that is also true. Thats the beauty of these products. You can add wax where and when you need it and washing it out lets you re apply when needed again. I personally dont do that with this jacket because of the down but in my other jackets I definately use this to my advantage. Why add wax everywhere? Maybe you just want extra protection on your shoulders or elbows etc etc.
I could tell you a story about those tree roots at your camp sight!!! No damage to my canoe, but I got a good black eye carrying my pack up. Nice spot. Good view.. Like another said, hit and miss on the fishing there… always a good time. Took my 66th trip this year there. Always a pleasure. Thanks for sharing. Careful getting back on the water with those roots!!!
@jackofalltrapping6181 i also fell once on those roots that trip. They are just so slippery. Especially with the morning due on them. Despite that issue it's a decent site and I was happy to have it. Obviously the lean to would have been better but it was taken so I was thankful for the nice view I still had. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts! Cheers.
I got my fjallraven keb touring for $150 and for that price it's amazing, but I get the problem with the baffle design. Another problem with the extra baffles is heat loss, as you can lease head out of each pinhole. I think your layering issue really boils down to sizing though, you may have needed to size up on the fjallraven. Thats the downside to them though, at least for me their sizing is all over the place.
@nathanlockhart3876 all good points. I agree for 150 it's definately a good buy. For the price they want normally and its not even worth considering.
So this jacket can keep you warm in minus degrees with just a shirt underneath?
@niconicoo5661 minus C maybe but not minus F. You'll need some layers to be comfortable in minus F degrees.
That steak 🤤 Firewood situation, fancy bundles? a bit disappointed, FLAME ON
@gwheel3502 haha, yeah. Some easy bundles for an overnighter. needed another bundle or 2 though.
Thanks for sharing! My wife and I are headed to Letchworth State Park tomorrow with our Escapod!
@marklester9147 that's really awesome. Not many of us Escapod owners on the east coast. Are you nearby or are you traveling quite a long distance?
@@AbundantAdventures I'm in MD, so about 6 hours from Letchworth. I know of at least one other owner near me (we took delivery at the same time) but you're right, there aren't too many on the east coast. Hopefully that will change!

Your dumb
Really useful review, thank you
Your welcome
@fratermus5502 you either have A LOT of solar, you're staying in places where youre panels have optimal sun access or you don't use much electricity, or all of the above. That should be the goal... To not have to use a generator. Personally I stayed off grid for 4 years with solar... and a generator was still an absolute necessity. Especially when an air conditioner was needed.
You need a gas generator if you boondock for any length of time. That said, the goal is to have a gas generator and to never have to use it. If you get both you'll always have power
@joshuastinson3013 yes sir. Perfectly said. I like my setup for that reason. My lithium batteries are good for some time by themselves, add a solar panel in there for some auxiliary help when there is some sun. The gas generator for when I need it... One caveat that I never considered until after watching my own video was maintaining the gas generator. Bring it and run it on each trip for a half hour so even if you don't need it. Just to keep it ready whenever you need it.
> You need a gas generator if you boondock for any length of time This is day 2,223 boondocking/snowbirding without a genny. I figure if I needed one I'd have found out by now.
@fratermus5502 what are you using for your power supply? Solar? You live in a sunshine state?
One thing I'd like to mention about this... I know there is a ton more to consider to compare the re fuel sources. For this video I'm just pointing out just how little storage capacity those solar generators have. If your not truly using them for optimum solar generation (ie with panels in good sun light) and instead plan to use just the battery to supplement, they don't get you far. I know someone can argue and cross compare setting up a solar farm at camp vs carrying a truck load of gas, but I wanted to kind of rule that out to make the case more for what I've actually seen people use them for which happens to be more of a battery bank. Also keep in mind I live in the north east...
I’m going with the option where I convince my friend to buy the biggest Bluetti system possible and then just ask to borrow it whenever I RV camp 🤣🤣 But also, yes better onboard system and then small generator….although I’ll be getting the bigger 3500 to run my AC
@gwheel3502 yeah. It just makes more sense for our area.
It totally depends on your use case. If you want to use a small amount of power for many days and have direct sun to charge a solar generator with a solar panel a solar generator is a good choice. If you want to run higher wattage devices or have lots of power available at any moment a gas generator is better. I agree a combination of battery storage and a gas generator is the best combination. For home standby uses I am 100% gas. In that case I want to run what I want to run and do not care if it means buying gas.
@TurboSpeedWiFi yes they both have their use cases. You pretty much hit the point of the video right on.
For the money they want, no way I'm buying one with that big window. Very big oversight.
@JustinHEMI05 I thought the same thing when I ran into the issue. After it got officially fixed I can say I truly appreciate having the window. The window makes it feel super roomy in there and allows the cabin to dump heat when it's open. I would be lying if I said I wasn't worried slightly about it leaking in the future, but time will tell.
@@AbundantAdventures that's good to hear. I'm going to sub to see your experience video. If they took ownership and fixed it right without much hassle, I can forgive it.
@JustinHEMI05 check out my latest video for the answer to that question. I plan to do an actual over all real world review of the trailer after 1 year of ownership. I want to see how everything holds up and make sure the performance works for winter as well. I don't do those "review" videos that are nothing more than restating the manufacturers marketing points.
Great talk about this stuff.
@@itsherlocknosh thanks. Hope it helps.
Definitely lucky you found that jalapeno bush!
Might not be the dedicated fisherman I once was, but my foraging skills have gotten really good :)
Great looking loop but I could do without the funeral parlor music. Thanks!
@itsherlocknosh haha yeah I didn't use this flavor of music again in later videos. I did decide to add some simple background music but not this style of "tones".
Man, that teardrop is sweet. I’m starting to poke around at the world of them. Sounds like pretty phenomenal service, to fly that guy out there. Good luck with your marathon, I’m no stranger to going in to long races undertrained. Just give your all!
@RhodySeth thanks man. Yeah I trained pretty decent up until I got real sick about a month or so ago. Then it all went waaaay down hill. It was like starting over.
Cuantos años te puede durar mas q filson?😅
Looks good, I'm planning on getting the same set up to replace my current family/winter camp set up. I have only one child however so a bit more space i think. I was wondering if you think It could be adapted inside to accommodate 4 more grown up people. I imagine your already thinking about how you can make room for 4 cots.
@WorldSurvivalist that depends on your needs and wants. If you use smaller cots and not the bulky ones, then you can fit 4 adults decently. I have had 3 adults in there with absolutely no problem and plenty of room. Once you add the 4th it gets a bit cramped. But for just sleeping with a stove going....perfectly fine.
Cool trip guys
@@WorldSurvivalist thanks for watching 😀 we will back there hopefully soon

that Escapod is insane! I am eyeing one for myself.
@polsovsky I'm liking it so far. I'll have plenty of videos coming out with it. Couple issues with it so far but everything has its issues. I'll do a full on review after 1 year of ownership. I might do a dedicated video on purchasing one and what to consider...
Another great AA…..bring back steak shots!!
@gwheel3502 hahahaha! Maybe I'll just do the sizzle flip shot since that's my favorite anyways lol
I'm thinking of getting this bag... How tall are you and what size bag did you get? I'm 5'8 and thinking of getting the 6foot bag, would getting the 6'6 bag be overkill?
@Adrian-uc4ox if your going to use it in winter and want to put stuff in your footbox then maybe it's worth it to get the 6 ft 6. If just 3 season use then I'd stick with 6ft option. I am only a bit over 5'6" but I have tons of space. You'll be perfect for the 6ft option IMO
