    I have a couple of the kenwood TK-890H. I have the programming software and cable. I have programmed the radio with all of the gmrs chaanel and repeaters I can transmit just fine, but getting no sound from the radio or any indication of receiving on the front panel. I am using the "K" 450-490 frequencies, converted from engine ignition (r504/r506), speaker conversion running the lead wires from a 5watt 3ohm speaker (not the KES-4) to the 9 pin connector (3,6).. Can you possibly give me some tips on what you think might be the problem? Its the same on both radios so I believe its something I havent done yet. Thanks in advance.

      On the back of the molex connector 9-Pin you want pins 2 & 6. Pin 3 is for a remote speaker switch input. So switch those pins around and that should get ya going

    • @tomlyerly850
      @tomlyerly850 День тому

      I have switched to 2/6. No difference. The issue is that when the radio is turned on (on both units) the icons pop up on the screen and than disappear. The only pf button that seems to do anything is the MON switch. Should I see any indicator to let me know it is receiving ?

    I did this about 25 years ago with some similar device from Radio Shack and an HTX 2M radio. I still have the radio (they were quite good radios), and I bet my junk box probably still has the repeater in it. It worked well, and I kept it around for emergencies. I think it even had a landline connection to create radio to telephone links, so,etching that was popular before cell phones.

      Yes sir! If you have the height, the 4-Element Collinear would be excellent for a repeater. It has good gain and and pattern that has most of the energy out towards the horizon. If you have modest height in hilly country. The lower gain antenna would be preferred. But with any radio and repeater system, height is definitely your friend.

      Ok. I live along the front range in southern Colorado. Flat to the east, Rocky Mountains to the West. Might have to pick up one of these to try out. If not for the repeater, for my camping kit, or emergencies. CHEERS from Colorado

    What’s the counter balance for

    • @Commodium
      @Commodium Місяць тому

      It gives something for the antenna radiators to work against. Think ground plane. But in reality it’s more like the missing section of a dipole antenna. And is very helpful IF your antenna doesn’t have some sort of internal impedance matching

    I’m interested in this for my home office base station what’s the cost?

    • @Commodium
      @Commodium Місяць тому

      The pricing depends on options and if it is setup for either a base station or remote mobile unit. The base unit is basically the same price as a Midland MXP500 but with twice the power. Send me an email Stevetow01@proton.me

    what needs to be done with the sr-112? any programming or just turn it on and play?

    • @Commodium
      @Commodium Місяць тому

      It is pretty much plug and play. It does have features for periodic announcements such as repeater id and such. That isn’t difficult and is programmed by using DTMF tones on a handheld radio

    so when talking of band width, it's like we are talking of the extension of modulation it is applied to the carrier depending on wetjer it is narrow or wide, be it on fm or am ?

    • @Commodium
      @Commodium Місяць тому

      Yes for that video’s purpose. Bandwidth when regarding antennas will be a frequency range, but that’s not covered in the video

      @itrstt66 Місяць тому

      @@Commodium wow, i though it was the video´s point, hence covered on it. now that you say that it seems it is another completely new subject of research/study. what would be the main concept behind it?

    • @Commodium
      @Commodium Місяць тому

      @@itrstt66Ok, so antenna bandwidth for uninitiated really means which frequencies the antenna can tolerate beyond its point of resonance both positive and negative. This would mean the frequency range would need to have an acceptable return loss (generally -15 to -20 and higher dBi) This would in turn allow the antenna to operate with a low VSWR on that range of frequencies. And this doesn't even begin to touch on antenna "Q" factor which is a whole other ball of wax, but is part of antenna theory.
