Utility Trailer Upgrade - Install a tongue jack wheel
The utility trailer is too heavy to lift the tongue to move it around inside the workshop. The obvious solution is to install a wheel on the tongue jack. This video shows just how easy this no-tools-required upgrade is and how much of a difference it makes. Even the local frog wants to come and check it out at the end!

Unpacking a portable sawmill crate

We purchased a TMG PSM27 portable sawmill sight unseen at an online auction. Thgere is always some risk to buying a major piece of equipment at an auction. To make matters worse, in this case the sale was as-is and there was no opportunity to examine the contents of the crate prior to bidding. We didn't even have a chance to examine the contents when we picked up the crate from the auction yard...

      Thanks. I've come around to the "bucket on the downhill side" way of thinking. Balancing it with the bucket on the uphill side will work up to some unknown angle, beyond which it will still tip. Since I can not always know that critical angle, I won't push my luck.

      That's interesting. I've wondered what the differences are between the L12 and the LH12R. So, mine apparently has the grease pressure warning stickers from an L12 but no grease tensioners to go with it. The AGT website has no information to help us sort out the features of their various models.

Thanks for your pickup video as well! Ritchie here didn't ask me to wear a vest (I did get one!) and a very kind young woman with the careful touch of an angel just plopped the Ex in my trailer, good thing took me hours to get it started (fuel shutoff valve on carb). Another guy was there too and we couldn't get his started, great tips! I have that exact welder. Looks like you're running Flux core. I found by using solid wire with shielding gas it produces a cleaner weld with less spatter. Nothing wrong with flux core though. If ypu like stick welding you should look into one of those little lunch box inverter types. I bought one off Amazon for around $100. I love it. The brand I bought is called Hone. So far I've welded the winch hitch and stabilizer mounts to my car hauler with it, plus some other jobs. It works great. In fact that's the only welder I use these days.

    • @thePFOchannel
      @thePFOchannel 7 днів тому

      I don't have enough time on mine yet to have good answers for those questions. The only "hill" I've attempted was the ramp on the trailer. You can see how that turned out in the prior videos. The nature of the work I've done so far has all been about loading dirt into a trailer. It only takes a few minutes to fill up a trailer load, and I turn it off between loads. So, I have not had any significant heat issues yet. I'll go out and look for a low oil switch next chance I get and let you know if I find one. I don't recall seeing one, but have not specifically checked for it.

    The holes in the oil reservoir cap, is not for overflow reasons. It needs to be there, for the tank to breath, letting air in and out when the fluid is drawn out and pushed back in the tank.

    You did a phenomenal job so not nitpicking but a small tip that I adopted from electricians is once you snug up the wire, put some electelectrical tape on the wire nut. Just snugs everything up to not shake loose, especially in a camper, and for me, added safety no wires can ever accidentally touch. I know it’s not critical and I wired my whole house in 1988 before ever seeing this done with no issues, but all new wiring of any kind gets electrical tape.

      Thank you. Yes, we were lucky to have the larger compartment on this model. The hatch opening on the front pass through storage was just a bit too low, and that would have been a lot longer wire run, too. Unfortunately, a lot of travel trailer models probably don't have such an ideal spot for it.

    How has this power station held up? I’m looking to do something similar and struggling with “do I build my own or buy pre made”? I’m trying to think long term. If I build my own, every piece is modular, so if it fails, I should be able to get a replacement from Amazon pretty quick. I contacted Eco, they said they do pay for shipping, but it goes to California or Canada. I’m on the East coast in VA. So at the best case, it is 5 days each way shipping, so that is 10 days, plus any processing time, which if I’m on vacation, zero chance of being practical to get warranty done in a timely manner. If modular, it could be a day or 2.

    • @thePFOchannel
      @thePFOchannel 13 днів тому

      We have not had any need for warranty work with the Delta Pro. We are extremely pleased with it. We bought this unit very soon after this model was launched. During the first year, it did seem like they had to push out a lot of firmware updates, but that has tapered off to only occasional updates. All are achieved quickly and easily through the phone app. We have used this a LOT not only in the travel trailer, but it has run our refrigerator and Starlink internet in the house to get us through many power outages. I love the self-contained aspect of the Delta Pro and the fact that it can be recharged by so many different input sources. The onboard charge controller seamlessly deals with anything you need to connect in or out. Even though I managed an electrical engineering department professionally for many years, I would have to do a ton of research to figure out how to piece together a system that would properly and safely handle the wide range of configurations this unit will accommodate. We like this so much that we bought another one and hooked it up in my mother's house, along with the Eco Flow Smart Home Panel, to be her backup power. Her town has frequent power outages, and it is a real blessing for me to be able to see and manage her system status via my phone from anywhere we happen to be. Both units have performed flawlessly.

    The nuts were a perfect fit for the track tensioners. I notice that your exhaust pipe is about 2 1/2" shorter then on my excavator. (My store bought extends to just about flush to the shroud.) I've also found a You Tube channel from AGT that has video of the hydraulic oil system/filter/change: www.youtube.com/@AGTIndustrial . So far no major differences between your auction model and my store bought save that my bolts and nuts all seemed tight and lube/greasing had been done before delivery.

    Anyone purchasing a tool from china take note. They use very very low grade oil in shipping these machines. It has to do with volatility that sensors may pick up on the ship. For that reason you are encouraged to change oil and filter BEFORE you dig the first scoop of dirt. Change the oil and filter again BEFORE the 10 hour mark. Many engines have been wiped out for not following these recommendations. Rato engines are sold thru harbor freight. You can get air filters from them, free shipping. Get several oil and Air filters if you have a rato (briggs clone) engine.

    I like your unit, especially the ease of access to the engine. However, I'm not sure I like the hydraulic lines hidden inside the boom. If ypu ever need to replace a line, it's going to be a chore to accomplish. I've actually had my eyes on the H12 that you looked at. It's got a counter weight which many of these small excavators do not, plus I like the easy access to the hydraulic lines for maintenance. Yet, I don't like the fact that to work on the motor, or even to change oil, I'd have to remove panels. I guess it's a coin toss. I'm only 25 miles from the North East Md Richie brothers site, and they've got a big auction coming up in August. I'm going to try for one, assuming I don't find one someplace else first.

I found this page on the Ritchie Brothers website that breaks it down. www.rbauction.com/buying/read-before-you-bid I am not affiliated with Ritchie Brothers in any way. Thanks for watching!

    Does this work on any atv or only some varieties?

    • @thePFOchannel
      @thePFOchannel 22 дні тому

      I would think the winch would work on almost any ATV, but the bracket I bought to attach the winch was specifically made only for this particular model of Honda. Whenever you see a product listing that says "model specific" that means it only works on that specific model. Pretty much the opposite of when they say "universal" fit.

    Not sure mounting the stabilizers directly to the wood is the best idea. When the wood starts to age or rot, one stiff bump amd you've left a stabilizer lying in the road. I think you should've added some metal under there and attached them to the metal not the wood.

    • @thePFOchannel
      @thePFOchannel 22 дні тому

      Thanks for the advice. It probably wouldn't be a good idea if I were inclined to leave the wood on there until it rots. I'm not so inclined. Attaching them to metal would definitely be better, in any case.

    What is a portable sawmill?

    • @thePFOchannel
      @thePFOchannel 22 дні тому

      It is a machine that uses a band saw blade to cut logs into lumber. It is called portable because it is relatively easy to relocate. You can move it and set it up near the source of logs, so you don't have to move the logs a long way.

    Field mice like get in our garage (where we keep our vehicles) and they have figured out how to LICK the peanut butter off the old fashioned snap traps without setting them off🤨. We have found that the tip traps with peanut butter smeared at the back works really well. We put those out in the garage, catching several, until there's none in the traps anymore. Have you tried traps near your vehicles? Give them peanut butter instead of wires until you trap them.😎

      Yes, we've trapped dozens in the old style spring traps in and around the cars. I polish the triggers. I've never tried the tip traps. 5 gallon buckets with a few sunflower seeds in the bottom have caught several in a night. We just seem to have a never-ending population coming in from the surrounding woods and fields.

    I git the same machine.been watching your videos. Only thing I've noticed is when I get on a steeper grade it stops all hydraulic movements. Wander if yours does or if you know how to stop that.

    • @thePFOchannel
      @thePFOchannel 25 днів тому

      I have not personally experienced that condition, yet. Based on posts I've read elsewhere, it may be caused by low hydraulic oil, or as a result of the pickup tube in the hydraulic tank being too short. I have not inspected inside the tank of this unit to see if they have the short tube. If so, then we need to install an extension so the tube remains below the fluid level when the unit is on a steep slope. One way you could test to see if this is the problem would be to try going up that same incline with the unit facing in the opposite direction. If the fluid in the tank moves lower relative to the pickup tube in one direction, then it would move higher on the tube when going the opposite way. Just don't tip it over!

      hi looking at maybe buying one of these what is steep grade my property is pretty steep thanks

    • @dcmotive
      @dcmotive 21 день тому

      I had a similar thing on my AGT L12. On the incline coming off of my trailer, the drive motors wouldnt go. The rest of the hydraulics would work, just not the drive motors. Im curious if there is a tip sensor on there somewhere. I ended up having to use the bucket and pull myself off the trailer ramp the rest of the way.

    • @thePFOchannel
      @thePFOchannel 19 днів тому

      @griz5178 , I don't know what tilt angle would be considered steep with regards to the hydraulic issue because I have not personally experienced the phenomenon of losing hydraulic drive power on an incline. As for the issues of a high center of gravity, the only thing I've driven on besides level ground is the ramp on my trailer. I learned the hard way that this machine requires special handling to avoid tipping at that particular angle. The angle of the ramp is about 20 degrees (36.4% slope), so we could probably call that steep, but that is not a definitive number. There may be some lesser slope that is also too steep. I don't know because I have never tried any other slopes. I also haven't found anything published by the manufacturer that would help answer these questions.

    Moving down the ramp bucket first is not being reactionary, it's being proactive. You're damn lucky you had the blade facing the right direction or you'd have gone ass over tea kettle. Do as others have said, back up the ramp and drive down with bucket on or near the ground.

    One reason I bought a car hauler trailer instead of a utility trailer. The latter's ramps are always too steep. Bet from now on he will drive that digger up and down the ramp with the boom/bucket near the ground, to prevent a tip over. Being over anxious to operate a machine can lead to disaster. I know I've been there.

    • @thePFOchannel
      @thePFOchannel 29 днів тому

      This machine has caused me to completely adjust my understanding of too steep. I'm sure I'll get used to it, but even going off the 3" drop at the edge of the concrete slab feels like it could go over.
