    I would've checked the oil in that machine before starting it

      I probably should have, but this particular auction includes a short video clip of the engine running on the listing of each of these units. So, it was apparent that they had been prepped for running when they were uncrated. Some other auctions I've seen had the excavators still strapped to a pallet and wrapped with plastic. Clearly unprepped.

    One reason I bought a car hauler trailer instead of a utility trailer. The latter's ramps are always too steep. Bet from now on he will drive that digger up and down the ramp with the boom/bucket near the ground, to prevent a tip over. Being over anxious to operate a machine can lead to disaster. I know I've been there.

      This machine has caused me to completely adjust my understanding of too steep. I'm sure I'll get used to it, but even going off the 3" drop at the edge of the concrete slab feels like it could go over.

    I'm curious about the weight capacity of your landscape trailer. I've got a 1.2 ton excavator on its way and am looking at trailer options. I didn't now that trailers that small could carry a literal ton of weight. What's the GVWR? If you don't mind sharing. Thanks for the video.

    Wow just watched the video and first thing I thought was why doesn't he turn the cab around and put the bucket out front close to the ground. Wish you would of showed the entire ending down the ramp.. Glad you were not hurt..

      The rest of the trip down the ramp is in a separate video. Also, there has been a lot of discussion in the comments about the best methods for such a maneuver. Thanks for watching!

    A useful and instructive video. Thank you.
    It's always a good idea to extend the backhoe arm out to move the center of gravity when dealing with steel slopes and loading ramps. I keep a short but heavy log to grip with the thumb when a slope is extra steep just so I can push the center of gravity even further up the slope. It's always better to tip into a slope than down one. ;-)

    I was yelling at my computer screen NOOOO when you loaded it. Hoped you had learned after that. I keep my boom on the low side and bucket low as possible when on an incline. That way if it starts to tip the bucket will stop it. Good luck, hope you enjoy your new toy. Oh and today I picked up a whole pallet of mini excavator attachments from an auction 75 miles away.

    • @thePFOchannel
      @thePFOchannel  7 місяців тому +2

      I guess it took me two trips on that ramp to learn that lesson. Enjoy those new attachments! I'm shopping for those now, too, but the nearest auction this week is an 18 hour drive. I'll wait...maybe.

    • @nicholasproietto2500
      @nicholasproietto2500 5 місяців тому

      I don't think backing up the ramp is absolutely necessary as you can put the boom out to counter balance. You notice he didn't tip going up the ramp, probably due to the direction of movement.

    • @tomd864
      @tomd864 5 місяців тому

      @@nicholasproietto2500 to each his own. I simply know that with the boom down hill it will stop me if it teeters forward. And if it does teeter forward the boom can assist helping the machine on up. I attended heavy equipment school in both the army and air force back in the 80's. But I don't remember if that was taught.

    • @thePFOchannel
      @thePFOchannel  5 місяців тому

      @nicholasproietto2500 , I have been thinking about this a LOT! Your close observation seems accurate to me. I, too, think the reason I didn't tip going up the ramp is due to the direction of travel. It was the transition from the inclined ramp to the flat bed that caused the unit to lurch as the center of gravity passed that edge. Going up, the unit lurched towards the flat bed, so no tipping was induced. Going down, however, the lurching was in the downramp direction, which amplified that motion. Now that I know this tendency, I can hang the bucket further out to the up-ramp side to balance out that lurch, as you can see in the followup video where I managed to get it down the ramp without tipping again. The problem is that this logic may only apply to this particular ramp, but nothing steeper. There is certainly some steeper angle where the weight of the bucket extended towards the uphill side is no longer sufficient to prevent tipping. Without knowing that magic angle, I dare not risk any steeper slopes than this trailer ramp without employing the "keep the bucket on the downhill side" advice given by others above.

    • @thePFOchannel
      @thePFOchannel  7 місяців тому +1

      It definitely feels unstable even though that ramp is not so steep. Now I know to extend the boom out more instead of keeping it tucked in. I just about learned that the really hard way!

      That was listed on the instruction sheet as a requirement for being on the premises while picking up a unit from that particular auction company. I didn't challenge them on it, so I don't know if they would have chosen to enforce it if I had shown up without one. All employees that I observed while in the yard had either a high visibility vest or a tee shirt in the same color.

    I saw another vid where the guy turned it over fully onto its back loading a very similar trailer. Good you only went part way. I think the L12s are the better design I have seen. Have not bought one yet but still doing research. Have seen some people put hydraulic filters on them. By the way there is a screen filter INSIDE the hydraulic tank on this model. The general I have seen is tighten everything, change the vegetable engine oil soon and adjust the choke and gas cables, and check track tension. Let us know what the total price is with auction fees, and how you handled state sales tax. Have fun with your new toy.

    • @thePFOchannel
      @thePFOchannel  7 місяців тому

      Yes, this L12 has some upgrades that indicate the manufacturer has been paying attention to feedback on the forums from their earlier models. That is why I chose this specific model. The auction yard included their state and local sales tax on the invoice. Both the bid price and the extra fees were taxable. The total amount was just under US$4,900.

    • @thePFOchannel
      @thePFOchannel  7 місяців тому

      Yes, but just paying attention isn't enough. This thing had my undivided attention as I nearly rolled it off the trailer backward. I need to learn how to use the boom as a counter-balance. I think that particular lesson is pretty well burned into my brain now, but what other mistake is waiting in the shadows? It'll be fun while learning!

    • @jtsokiehobbyandadventures6666
      @jtsokiehobbyandadventures6666 7 місяців тому +1

      @thePFOchannel it is easy with boom. Put it out and low. When taking off of a trailer. Have bucket close to ramp. Before hitting ground rase up a few inches. A easy thing to remember on blade. If infront of you. You push controls forward. If bade in rear you pull. When digging run motor 1/2 to 3/4. If to jumpy just ideal down a bit. It just take time to get use to machines.
