The first thing that really got under my skin about Alan Wake 2 was the dreadful signposting. By "signposting," I mean the way a game subtly guides you through levels while maintaining an illusion of openness. In Alan Wake 2, this is outright terrible. Take the opening moments in the woodland area: You’ll see what looks like a perfectly passable path, only to awkwardly stop dead in your tracks because there’s a two-inch rock or log in the way. Fine, you think-so you try another route, only to find yourself walking in circles because the actual path forward looks just as blocked as the fake ones. It’s maddening. When I finally stumbled onto the correct path, I ran into yet another outdated trope: a fuse box missing its fuse. And here’s where the game truly tested my patience. I wandered around-again-looking for the fuse, only to discover that it’s broken and I have to find another one. I felt like the game was outright trolling me at this point. And guess what? This isn’t a one-off. I’ve had to hunt for fuses FOUR times so far, and just to keep things “exciting,” the game also made me search for a screwdriver. It feels like a joke, but not the funny kind. Another moment that highlights the poor design is when you’re looking for the Koskella brothers. There’s a “Road Closed” sign, and based on earlier experiences with impassable terrain, I assumed I couldn’t go down that way. After wasting time, I had to check a UA-cam video-turns out, you can go that way. This kind of inconsistency isn’t clever; it’s infuriating. And let’s not even talk about how you can’t drive cars anymore, something you could do in the first game. A last-gen game let you run enemies over and explore, while this one locks you into a rigid, scripted experience. The movement itself feels clunky and stiff. You can’t even hop down a ledge naturally-you have to stand in the exact right spot and press a button. It’s like the developers went out of their way to remind you that you’re not in control. This trend of “press button to do the thing” is turning modern games into walking simulators. Now, the story. I have to admit, I stopped caring pretty early on. The dialogue repeatedly hammers phrases like “the Dark Presence” and “the Dark Place,” and it’s impossible to take seriously. I already know the ending is going to be some vague, cryptic nonsense, much like the first game’s “It’s not a lake; it’s an ocean.” It feels like the writers don’t want to commit to any real resolution, leaving a trail of unanswered questions behind. And don’t get me started on the story board mechanic-it feels like pinning the tail on the donkey while blindfolded. Quick-time events make a return too, though thankfully they’re used sparingly. Still, it feels like another relic of gaming past that doesn’t belong here. Looking back, the first Alan Wake was a much better game. It wasn’t perfect, but at least it gave you more freedom and variety. I don’t trust reviews anymore-calling this “Game of the Year” feels like a joke. I’m 80% through, and I’d give it a 5/10 at best. The repetitive fetch quests, convoluted story, and stiff gameplay make this a chore to play. If walking around in circles looking for fuses and screwdrivers is your idea of fun, more power to you. For me, it’s a massive disappointment.

Playing through this again. The writing honestly feels like it stems from the diary of a pubescent girl. It’s filled with teenage tier drama and romance. Jesse and Dina, Ellie’s heart throbs…..it’s excruciatingly juvenile. Especially the part where Ellie’s immunity is revealed to Dina. It is immediately cast aside for Dina’s _”I think I’m pregnant!”_ line, which then becomes the main focus of contention, instead of Ellie’s immunity which is quickly forgotten. Druckman is really only one letter off and away from spelling out what he really is.

I enjoy the second game but not as much as the first. And it wasn’t a failure at all it made a ton of money. There are just many people that don’t like it

True. I found myself routing for team Ellie the ENTIRE time because I’ve honestly spent more time with them and gotten to know them in the previous game. I honestly didn’t care about Abby or her friends at all and it pissed me off that Ellie let her go at the end. The game wanted you to feel more sympathy towards Abby but the whole retime I was just thinking “I don’t care, she took Joel away”

Id argue that Joel did take on the fatherly role for Ellie tho. I think the point of showing those flashbacks was to illustrate the continuation of their relationship. The first game was centered around building their bond, to the point where Joel eventually viewed Ellie as a 2nd daughter of sorts. Hence he did what he did.

The last act felt so rushed. It’s like Insomniac had to cut some shit out because of pressure time. Also Symbiote Peter arc should’ve been longer.

They genuinely need to change the setting. What was insomniac thinking using slightly bigger maps 3 games in a row… Make spiderman 3 take place in San Francisco or London or SOMEWHERE ELSE. YOU CAN MAKE UP A STORY REASON IT DOESNT MATTER

The Venom sucked in this game. He isnt venom. He has a different personality, a different host, and most importantly, different motives. In every good venom adaptation, venom wants only one thing. Not to take over the world, not to do evil. just to kill spider man. that is what makes venom venom. as of now hes venom in name only

Just started playing this (I'm late to the party I know). I'm about 80% through. TBH it's overrated. The real annoyance is the protagonists have for some reason bought a single torch which is about as powerful as a cigarette lighter, in spite of knowing in advance they will be basically shuffling around pitch dark woods or underground tunnels which are miles long and a literal maze (often covered with in mist). Walking in the woods for example, you cant get 20-30 feet without running into dead ends, hedges, collapsed paths etc. I was having to check my map at 20 second intervals to work out where the ^&*% I was supposed to be going. Sometimes it gets confusing and doesnt even make sense what you are supposed to be doing. There's way too much wandering around trying to figure out where things are. On top of that the plot isn't even 5% as good as Control, which was actually fascinating and cool.

Finally someone says what I think. It has no sense to give Peter the antivenom just after gettijg rid of the Black suit. Bad writing.

We all know how it failed. After the hype died down, we realized how poorly made the game was. It’s still missing core features from fallen order even! do you remember back in fallen order when your double bladed lightsaber attacks weren’t so easily cancelled by 50 enemies attacking at once? That’s because of how the enemies worked and how literally any lightsaber attack could deflect blaster bolts. And it was specific special enemies that let other lower level enemies all attack at the same time. Like with the stormtrooper commander in fallen order. It could command as many stormtroopers as he wanted to shoot all at the same time. I think it’s the same with the scout commander or whatever it’s called, I forget. There’s also the fact that you could use slow at any time you wanted because it was cal’s signature move. Now it’s a special so you can’t use it when you want to, and when you don’t need it you have it. Also the movement is much worse, along with the combat. In fallen order it is very consistent. Specifically the PS4 version. we don’t talk about the PS5 version. When you throw your lightsaber in fallen order, you know it will target the enemy you’re locked on to, and it will hit no matter what unless the boss blocks, parries or dodges but it pretty consistently hit on the way back too if you’re close enough. But the lightsaber throw with all the new forms in survivor are so inconsistent and untrustworthy that I never use them and when I do use them I always notice that annoying glitch where when the lightsaber leaves cal’s hand it just glitches inside of him for a second. It’s it’s in every version of the throw, including charged versions. And it’s been in the game since after launch. AFTER. They added the glitch, and it hasn’t been fixed at all. It used to actually freeze right in front of cal when the lightsaber was returning and you’d be stuck there and at the mercy of any enemy you’re fighting with how long it took to recover from a throw. Also sometimes in survivor while running on a wall cal will just fall off of it for no reason but when you tried running on a different wall you could run on it for the normal amount of time. Fallen order never had that! Another huge issue is that when you hold a rocket, it falls even when you’re holding it and that wasn’t in fallen order. Most of the time I can’t even throw the rocket because of a glitch so I get exploded no matter what. But the absolutely 100% worst thing about the game is that they didn’t bring back the dodge kick from the first game. They need to add it back as free DLC or something because just doing a normal lightsaber attack after perfect dodging (which is also very inconsistent in survivor when compared to fallen order, especially because of the auto dodge that takes force from you) is so, so boring. The main reason I go back to play fallen order besides the arena mode that survivor STILL doesn’t have for some reason is for the dodge kick. Perfect dodge, dodge kick into lightsaber hit was actually how I beat the game multiple times over. I almost never parried until I found out the perfect dodge timing in survivor was abysmal. The party timing on grand master is even harder than fallen order too. It’s literally too precise for me to get consistent parries and I’ve been playing video games since I was 2 and been playing rhythm games since I was maybe 3 to 6. The game needed at least another few months, possibly up to even a year to finish development properly TLDR; forgot EXTREMELY important mechanics from fallen order and not enough time to finish development To be honest I don’t agree with a lot of the points that you explain. For example, the story was great and the gameplay should’ve been closer to the first game.

One thing people never talk about is how Miles having ABSOLUTELY NO SAUCE. hes a black kid from New York but having him act like the most bland/boring white kid is a crime . Its like when white people say i have a black friend that would be miles

Bro theres nothing to do in the open world are all of you spiderman only fans? Im confused maybe its playstation community, but i play xbox games and stuff like skyrim. This game needed things in the open world even GTA knows this. Even a reputation meter would have been nice npc interactions enemy bases to take down villans making a name for themselves in the world something.

The symbiote should have had lines when he was with Peter and give us different choices only good thing the game did the Symbiote whispers and combat this is why Web of Shadows remains as goatest Spider-Man game since it gives you choices

I just finished the game and here’s my honest opinion. It’s not bad

I was very hyped to play it after watching so many reviews. I finally tried it and i am so disappointed. Graphics are god awful as spiderman ps4 looks better. For some reason they decided to have combat and swinging on "toggle" automatic?! Who thought that was a good idea haha. Took me 30 min to understand that the game settings were flawed and not my controller being broken.. crazy

Why make a Spider-Man video game have stakes of a Superman game? Why make Eddie Brock the only venom in the comics and make harry Osborn venom? Why cram up all these villains and rushed plot?

9:45 Ex-act-ly. At least if we had some cool encounters and great fights with him, it could maybe have helped balance out how 2-Dimensional and boring he is. But we don't even get that. So we get a Venom that fails both at being Venom AND gets only 1 fight with the Spideys.

Im not gonna lie i was pretty bummed i had so much fun with the first game the story swinging was good for a while till i felt no swing assisnt and wish i could have it in the first game so much more to do

7 out of 10, the Gameplay is Great, Each Spider-Men brings something Unique, the Villains look Good, and the Graphics look Amazing, I just think that if they delay the Game for Another Year and Fix the Story and the 3rd Half, it could have been Better but if Feels Underrated because something felt missing and now a Year Later and no DLC Expansion, I guess we’ll never Know.

They proudly worked with Sweet Baby Inc for the story and it really shows. Its embarrassingly safe, low tension, coperate slop with a fucking advertisement forced into the main story at the end, apparently the og comic writers from the 1st game didn't work on this one and it really suffers from it.
