I am an untrained gardener living in Central Illinois in the recently classified zone 6. I have a suburban garden full of shade and sun perennials peppered with annuals. This channel is a call to all gardeners - help me know what I need to know!!! I learn from so many other people, I am hoping others might join me and teach me, and that someone just might learn something from me. Gardens are full of inspiration small aggravations and happy surprises. This channel is me walking and learning through all of these moments. Glad you are here

Переглядів 11 тис.Рік тому
In Part 1 - - ua-cam.com/video/QKNxBwoAA3g/v-deo.htmlsi=qNwyQ42o-GftBZn9 I began the process of taking cuttings from my outdoor coleus plants, placing them in jars of water and bringing them inside. This video shows how some did not survive and the others became infested with mealy bugs. So we are starting over. Lessons have been learned! We are going through the first steps to overwinter my coleus plants. I live in zone 6 so the coleus will not last a major frost. I'd like to save and multiply my collection. In an attempt to hide more of the fence the borders our back patio, I am creating a Belgian fence design. This is a form or espalier but using diamond shapes instead of lateral lines. Pink Lady Pruners: amzn.to/446Whof Contact Info: email: edgygardener.05@gmail.com Insta: edgygardener

Central Illinois, Zone 6. A huge storm damaged my PeeGee standard Hydrangea and I just can't live with the shape it's in. In this video I'm cutting off all the lovely blooms in hopes to train it to grow upright. Amazon Link to Pink Lady Pruners: amzn.to/3ODM7aa

You have your own botanical garden..... Absolutely stunning ❤
Yes the bugs are in the soil on the plants and on whatever tools you use take out all the soil and start fresh.
Just found your channel....Im in Illinois....happy to find gardners in my growing zone..
I think it looks beautiful if you some grow creeing jenny under your garden swinging chair to cover the soil or putting river rock. nice video thanks even it wad 1 year ago video
These are my colors..beautiful
I found mealy bugs on one of my coleus also.
Thank you for this. I'm going to try it as I really have nothing to lose other than a little time. My favorite is Wicked Witch although I'm not Wicca. I just love the look and style of the leaves.
This was the first time I planted coleus. I love how well they grew!
This year I grew lime delight from seed by Pinetree garden seeds with great success.
Hi Shelley, my favorite is dipped in wine
New subscriber - you had me at Wicked Witch!
Oh my gosh your baby is adorable 😊 19:01
I battled mealys on my coleus all summer. I just ripped them out after taking some cuttings. Ive never had a problem with them either and they were horrible this year. They were also on my lambs ear and dusty miller. Im in IN. Im wondering if we just didnt have a cold enough winter?
Interesting video. How long do they take to root in water (versus soil)? I think the coleus at 17.24 could be ‘Tickled Pickle’ or maybe ‘Barracuda’?
Thank you for showcasing these beautiful Coleus. ❤
I’m 68 now, when I was in my teens and twenties, we grew them as houseplants.
Enjoyed part 1 & 2. Im ready to cut and start the rooting process. Thanks gor letting us know about the bugs - I'll check for sure. Last winter was my first time for overwintering coleus. Rooted and potted four pots of six varietes - 24 plants. Used a potting tray - one shelf in a west window with grow lights. Not much space at all. Probably loss five plants, but was very leased to be able to keep them. The have been beautiful this summer - such beautiful fall color right now. Thanks for encouraging us to try to overwinter. Definitely worth it!!!!
THANK YOU! GREAT VIDEO!!
You’re gardens are just beautiful 😊 Those asters ❤ I wonder about when you bought a new crop from a different supplier if maybe the other place may have had the issue and you bought your own mealy bugs 🤷🏼♀️ You may have a point about the soil. That’s a hard call but I think most would recommend replacing the soil 😢
These are gorgeous 😊 You may have one in there big enough to do one of the coleus trees
Cut off the stems toward the bottom or underside of the branches the minute they start growing. This will put more energy into the upward growing branches. Those will also get thicker. Win-win. My experience with density: it's more about how you prune. I tend to prune out 50% of the internal branches in favor of thicker branches that hold the weight of the flowers.
Have you tried “bottom watering?
Lovely…the view AND the music! It is Sunday morning in central Texas; this was the perfect opening to a beautiful day! Thanks for sharing!🥰
Sad to see those beautiful had to go!
My favorite variety coleus is Inferno, which is a beautiful vibrant orange. 🧡🧡🧡
Hey Neighbor! I'm close to St. Louis...great video! I too over winter many plants but never did Coleus so I'm going to give a try. Thank you for sharing!
Could you tell us which plants you over winter....please and Thank You!
Enjoyed your video! Loved your shirt!
I use a few drops of 3% hydrogen peroxide in the water.
I found your coleus window box very interesting! I love hummingbirds too! I found at my nursery two varieties in the early spring other than the orange. Honeybells, which is pinkish/reddish and Sugarbells, which is white. They didn’t grow as tall as the orange, they were more fuller and mounding. I had them in pots on my deck. I propagated some to make more plants during the summer. Good luck!
I dont think this shape has a name! 😂😂
I love your imperfect notes!!! I wish my brain would let me do it that way, TBH!!! My OCD mind has to make it all “perfect” 🤦🏼♀️ And, that being said - I love this fence!!!! Now to just figure out how I can make it perfect spacing lol 🤷🏼♀️ I wonder if string/wite could be wrapped around a nail to save even more wrist weakness. Maybe you could ask your dad, if you don’t know. Just curious bc I have tons of nails so my attempt at being a cheapskate lol
Have you tried doing this with your sweet potato vines? If so, what's your process for them? Thank you for the great video. I love your guests, so cute!
Big like 👍 very nice sharing coliyas my fevrit palants 🪴🪴 New friends 🎁
Maybe set your phone to remind you to water. Probably set it for serval months at a time. My favorite is chocolate drop... I leave in water all winter, but keep check on it. I don't have space for pots..❤❤❤😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
Man I’m glad I found you, I’m putting in raised beds my husband built me and I want this cattle wire too!
Wow! I just found you today and this video is perfect for I WANT to try this!!!! I absolutely love Coleus and I want more, this will be fun and I have a shelf of grow lights just waiting for these new babies I’m going to grow.
I'm new to gardening. This was so informative. Thanks for sharing.
Just found your post, thx! Cuphea is a hummingbird magnet, it does come with pink flowers and white flowers!
Thank you so much for this video. I had forgotten that they can be rooted in water. By the way the basil can be grown the same way. It roots very easily in water.
I'm in zone 8a, mine are in shade and do very well.
I like your videos! Hello from a fellow zone 6 midwest landscape lover!
I live in St Louis I love watching gardeners that live close to my area. New sub neighbor🙋🏽♀️💚
Great video. Thank you!
Absolutely gorgeous! I watched your videos! They were so helpful! I want to recreate this!
Thanks for sharing. I will try this plant
Why not try rooting in potting mix? Has that not worked for you?
How do keep spiders away from the coleus?
I live in Decatur, IL and just found you! I hope you will be making more videos. I’m anxious to see them all!!
Love your video! I have the big red one and it gave me so much privacy on my balcony. I will overwinter for the first time.
Big like 👍 very nice sharing wow so beautiful coliyas color my fevrit coliyas ❤❤❤❤ New friends 🎁😊
