Thanks for this helpful video! First time growing and trying to overwinter coleus (1st year with a yard to plant so very new to this ). Your coleus arrangement is absolutely stunning, definitely inspires me to be more creative with planting next year. Please consider sharing some of your planting process next year. Would love to learn to create a mini version. 🤞
Hi Shelly. Fungus gnats indoors? In your soil for cuttings and all your house plant potting soils buy Mosquito Bits and mix one tablespoon for every five cups of soil. It will eliminate all indoor gnats in around 20 days. I was amazed. Amazon has mosquito bits. I’m a coleus crazy gardener. Lovely videos.
What a gorgeous coleus display! I am also a Coleus Collector who overwinters by taking water cuttings. This year one of my favorite new additions is Black Dragon, a new color and shape for me. It grew quite vigorously in the partial shade of my front porch.
I always have lime time in my favourite 4 lime pots. It’s matchy matchy and I love the high impact of this never fail coleus. Though this year I may have loved fishnet stockings more so am making a note to switch my lime posts up to fishnet for 2024. I do the coleus reds (Beale st,ridiculous, cherry brandy, & I’ll look for red head) in my landscape pots. I currently have 4 vases of coleus leaf decorative vases at work in my showroom. Fabulous fall bouquets of nothing but leaves.
I just love the admission of the neglect idea when trying to do it all at one time. I get that idea and I have decided to write down a schedule for the fall cleanup of the garden so it is easier, and manageable, to accomplish.
I like the way you talk about them, like introdecing your children. And they seem to respond back. 🙂 I used to have a variety with bright yellowish orange foliage. but, I think if you move them from bright sun to less sunny area, the lose their color and turn green... ish with patches of darker colors,
Thank you so much for this video. I had forgotten that they can be rooted in water. By the way the basil can be grown the same way. It roots very easily in water.
I will be moving up to zone 6 in Illinois from zone 9 in Florida in a couple of weeks and was worried about how my coleus will do! Thank you so much for this informative video!
Thank you for this. I'm going to try it as I really have nothing to lose other than a little time. My favorite is Wicked Witch although I'm not Wicca. I just love the look and style of the leaves.
I found your coleus window box very interesting! I love hummingbirds too! I found at my nursery two varieties in the early spring other than the orange. Honeybells, which is pinkish/reddish and Sugarbells, which is white. They didn’t grow as tall as the orange, they were more fuller and mounding. I had them in pots on my deck. I propagated some to make more plants during the summer. Good luck!
Wow, just came across your video! I love your display and all your different types of coleus. I never thought to save the cutting. My coleus grows back every year from the seeds of the previous season. It seeds everywhere! I love it! But I don’t have proven winners coleus. I just bought some online and will definitely try to save them since they are extra special. Thanks for all the information!!
Hey Neighbor! I'm close to St. Louis...great video! I too over winter many plants but never did Coleus so I'm going to give a try. Thank you for sharing!
Wow! I just found you today and this video is perfect for I WANT to try this!!!! I absolutely love Coleus and I want more, this will be fun and I have a shelf of grow lights just waiting for these new babies I’m going to grow.
Maybe set your phone to remind you to water. Probably set it for serval months at a time. My favorite is chocolate drop... I leave in water all winter, but keep check on it. I don't have space for pots..❤❤❤😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
I planted 4 from seed in june. And yesterday i scraped a brown spot on the flower and I got more seed now off one than I started with! Im so happy I can grow a BUNCH next season! I need another color now besides burgundy and off white.
Western tip of IL and SOOO GLAD to find someone with a channel in same area. Whew!!😊 All of mine are doing wonderful, and then there is one of the same kind as others - same light - that ends are turning white. What the what? lol. I can see it happening if diff variety or conditions but all the same ??? Doing a second wall with your pinks would be so gorgeous! In funny news, you look SO familiar!! Do you ever come to Q? (Not gonna put full name, lol but I think you’ll know the town)
I bought 'FlameThrower' and thought it was ok at first. However, it was HUGE and turned out very pretty! I will be overwintering this one for sure. I have one problem to ask you about: I do the same as you but it seems when I take them out of the pot to place in my planters, they will break off at the soil level like they are rotten there. Do you know why?
Loved the vlog. I think the "fishnet stockings" was mislabeled. Last year I grew the one you now have & I know it wasn't called "fishnet stockings". I hope someone can comment on the correct name, as I misplaced the tag. Funny thing....I actually ❤ that variety & overwintered several cuttings. Now I need to know the name😊
Have you tried doing this with your sweet potato vines? If so, what's your process for them? Thank you for the great video. I love your guests, so cute!
I like vermillionaire shape & texture & definitely hummer attractive BUT don't care for the orangy color. I just wonder how well the others do @ attracting hummers?
You have your own botanical garden..... Absolutely stunning ❤

Should have checked your other videos first haha, glad to see you have made one already. 😊
The baby was the cutest in the garden 😊💕

I’m going to try and overwinter mine! I love Color Blaze Cherry Drop… so pretty paired with Supertunia Jazzberry😍
Only just found you but so inspiring .many thanks this is my first season .and I just love them 💕.

Well, I love the name - Black Dragon. I'll have to look that one up. Do you keep them in water all winter? Do you add any nutrients?
Just found your post, thx! Cuphea is a hummingbird magnet, it does come with pink flowers and white flowers!
El Brighto is a must for the color palette you say you like.

A fellow Coleus lover 😀. I have never had Cherry Brandy - I will have to check that one out.
Greetings from Turkey. Your coleuses are truly beautiful.😊
Thank you very much!

Thank you for showcasing these beautiful Coleus. ❤
I cut mine put them dirt and watered... in 3 days they stopped wilting, they are nice and sturdy in the pot, I believe they have roots now.😊❤
Thank you so much for this video. I had forgotten that they can be rooted in water.

This was the first time I planted coleus. I love how well they grew!
Oh my gosh your baby is adorable 😊 19:01
I love coleus. Always been an admirer and this is my first year buying and growing them
Love your video! I have the big red one and it gave me so much privacy on my balcony. I will overwinter for the first time.
I live in St Louis
I love watching gardeners that live close to my area. New sub neighbor🙋🏽♀️💚
This is one of my fav videos on coleus!!

Hi Shelley, my favorite is dipped in wine
I’m 68 now, when I was in my teens and twenties, we grew them as houseplants.
Hey Neighbor! I'm close to St. Louis...great video! I too over winter many plants but never did Coleus so I'm going to give a try. Thank you for sharing!
Could you tell us which plants you over winter....please and Thank You!
My favorite variety coleus is Inferno, which is a beautiful vibrant orange. 🧡🧡🧡
These are gorgeous 😊 You may have one in there big enough to do one of the coleus trees
Wow! I just found you today and this video is perfect for I WANT to try this!!!! I absolutely love Coleus and I want more, this will be fun and I have a shelf of grow lights just waiting for these new babies I’m going to grow.

This year I grew lime delight from seed by Pinetree garden seeds with great success.

Have you tried doing this with your sweet potato vines? If so, what's your process for them? Thank you for the great video. I love your guests, so cute!
Is a petunia eating petunias cannibalism!? Lol, he's too cute
Thank you for the easy step by step instructions! Will this work as well with any other annuals?
I will also pull in my mexican petunias - but I will dig the plant up, cut it back and bring it inside. I will experiment with some begonias too
This method works well with basics. They root very well in water.
Spell check, uh. Basil is what I meant.
I just did eco printing using the coleus leaves..
ohhh. That sounds cool
They out grew the space for me. Fungus knats were a huge issue.
They have been a huge issue for me too!
So jealous! I wish I could grow them but they’re toxic to dogs, plus I have no shade in my front or backyard.😢
There’s a white cuphea and a white with purple tip
I like vermillionaire shape & texture & definitely hummer attractive BUT don't care for the orangy color. I just wonder how well the others do @ attracting hummers?
Roses dawn gardens has a huge selection of coleus
How do keep spiders away from the coleus?
what did u say u put them in after water stage??
Heartbreaker is hard to root for me, leaves rot easily.
All those seeds just waiting to be harvested.
Some colors are so picky with rooting.
