Really great video for one of my fav records!

As time has gone on in my record collecting experience I’ve definitely chilled out on trying to find mint LPs. I love finding original copies still, but now I really don’t care much if they are in VG- or VG shape. I have learned to just mentally block that out and enjoy the music. Loud skips and pops are a no no however. Having a nice cartridge and preamp are far more important than chasing the cleanest vinyl out there. Just my advice.

I love the Tiny Grimes on Swingville! Also there are a couple great two-fers double albums from the early 60's on Blue Trident that are superb...if they are recycled vinyl free. All with RVG stamps.

Could you cover some European free jazz labels like Black Saint or FMP? Many jazz commentators sneer upon music like this, and some refuse to even acknowledge the music's existence. I appreciate the attention you are giving to jazz music!

Keith Jarrett influencing John Paul Jones ?? … Hell yeah. I, too, listened to the 1975 bootlegs, but the Seattle version (March 21 I think) is my favourite of them all. The Vancouver 1975 versions are also good, can't go wrong with any 1975 version of No Quarter in my opinion. He obviously was channelling his inner Jarrett there. And the rest of the band let him get away with it. The jamming between Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones at Seattle is really inspired. Just about any keyboard player alive back then must have had their worlds shook to the core by Keith Jarrett. Just the other day, I was showering and the sound of drops falling sounded like him playing for me. Köln, Bremen, Lausanne, and parts of the Japan concerts are to me the absolute pinnacle of music. You are the only person I have ever come across that made that connection between JPJ and KJ. Thanks and Cheers 🍺

God save the queen was released on 27th May 1977 and on the queen's silver jubilee on 7th June 1977 the sex pistols played a gig on a boat called the queen elizabeth on the river Thames, but the river police boarded the boat and started arresting people, at this time the BBC put a blank space at no 2 but all other chart rundowns put a blank space at no 1, as they refused to print the name of the band and the song, the start of holidays in the sun is nazi jackboot marching, my favourite part of the album guitar wise is jones soloing at the end of new york to the power bursting intro of EMI.

This is one time that it can be argued that Capitol did US fans a favor with their version of this album. In essence, they created a The Beatles Unplugged album, since much of this album is acoustic. I personally prefer the Capitol versions of this album and Revolver, for I feel they compliment each other: the Capitol Rubber Soul is mostly acoustic, while the Capitol Revolver is mostly electric. They fit hand in glove with each other. This also is particularly true with the release of the Yesterday and Today album, which was the tracks Capitol took from these albums along with the A and B sides of the latest singles. Yes, it can be argued that Capitol only did this for the money. But since when does any business not do something for the money???!!! They have to in order to survive. But I will always have a soft spot in my heart for the Capitol Beatles catalog, for this is how I first heard The Beatles’ music. And I know many fans in the US and Canada feel the same. So let The Beatles purists keep griping about what Capitol did to the original albums. I’m just going to enjoy the music!!!

Late to responding to this video. I think I have 3/4 of these. A number of the Modes were reissued by VSOP and are available inexpensively. The Perkins/Kamuca is one of my favorites. The Paitch is a huge keeper, too. The last records Ritchie issued before his early passing are worth looking for as well. Under the radar? Early John Handy on Roulette. Ira Sullivan on Delmark. John LaPorta, Eddie Costa, the Ritchie Cole/Art Pepper record, and almost anything with Jimmy Rowles.

If you go to a black cookout and it’s no Frankie Beverly and Maze play it ain’t no cookout! Frankie Beverly just retired and had his last show in Philadelphia at the Dell.

And another one I have recently stumbled across Alan...."Back to Back" Duke Ellington and Johnny Hodges Play the Blues. Sensational recording on Verve. This is another classic!

I am a big Milt Jackson fan and a big fan of the vibes in general (oddly enough, I used to not like the vibraphone), so I really enjoyed this one. Great informative video. I have a number of these mostly found on "digs at flea markets and the $5 bins. Of course that is getting harder and harder to do. I did not know The Laurindo Almeida story. Great info. PS Look for the Bud Shank Album, Barefoot Adventure on Pacific Jazz.. Killer Funny Story.. my wife likes the Little Big Jazz album and ask for it by saying "play the $1 record."

Thanks for this excellent review of a great Milt Jackson record, and for the well-done background. I have plenty of Milt’s records in addition to “Plenty, Plenty Soul.” One I recommend is his ’56 Savoy date, “The Jazz Skyline,” with Lucky Thompson, Hank Jones, Wendell Marshall, and Kenny Clark. Everyone shines on this one! I had the pleasure to hear Milt in a Bay Area club in the early ‘90s (you can guess my age demographic). It’s good to have you back on the scene, and great to know your recovery has gone so well.

I have 2 close friends who are urologists and they are having men in their early 40’s who are African American and Latino to get their PSA labs done and White males who have been diagnosed with BPH or a family history of the disease. Early awareness and detection is the key to survival. Thanks for the Bags video-review. I love Bags and “Sunflower” is my favorite solo output by the vibraphonist. I highly recommend that CTI title. I’ve been finding a lot of his work on recent digs and my late father was a massive MJQ fan. Their album with Lou Donaldson and Monk is a must have. I do remember being a kid and going to the record shop with Dad when he grabbed that title. Take care of you, my good sir🙏🏻

Peter Tosh (guitar and vocals, Bunny Wailer, Carlton Barrett - drums, Earl Wyah Lindo - keyboards and American Wailer Al Anderson - lead guitar. Its my favourite Peter Tosh, i biught the RECORD in 1978 from my pocket money aged 14. Im 60 in 2024 here in Australia

I was listening to this at a shop recently but decided to put it back, still waiting to catch the wave on it. It's obviously an album of incredible musicians playing well but the giant concert hall really affects how the music comes across, compared to something like the Shelley Manne Black Hawk albums

I have a near mint copy of the stereo UK -2 / -2 i picked up from a shop in the 80s, paid $35 for it which was the most I ever paid for a record up to than,,I wouldnt dare tell the wife what I paid,lol but im so glad i did because it sounds incredable. i have compared it with the 2022 mono version and its amazing how close they are cut the volume ,sound and eq match perfect ,,,its like the stereo identicle twin to the 2022 mono aside from the song differences and ofcourse mono vs stereo. i want to stress I have a great mono setup which is crucial to getting the full experience its sounds 3 dimensional, quite a revelation ,my favorite way to listen to revolver
