Alan, Wow so glad that you caught it in time! Our world is better and brighter with you in it. Part of the demographic at 64.75! Screened every year. Take care.

Great to have you back, Allan. Your videos are always well researched and very well presented. I am a big Milt Jackson fan and a big fan of the vibes in general (oddly enough, I used to not like the vibraphone), so I really enjoyed this one. Also great to know that you are making a good recovery-- keep it up, my brother!

Thanks for this excellent review of a great Milt Jackson record, and for the well-done background. I have plenty of Milt’s records in addition to “Plenty, Plenty Soul.” One I recommend is his ’56 Savoy date, “The Jazz Skyline,” with Lucky Thompson, Hank Jones, Wendell Marshall, and Kenny Clark. Everyone shines on this one! I had the pleasure to hear Milt in a Bay Area club in the early ‘90s (you can guess my age demographic). It’s good to have you back on the scene, and great to know your recovery has gone so well.

Thank you, for the kind words and the support. I haven't heard that one and will seek it out. And lucky you to be able to have seen him! All the best.

@@TenMinuteRecordReviews The best thing I remember about seeing Milt Jackson was what a gentleman he was. When he announced his band mates, he made a point of saying that, although they were local musicians, he wouldn't want to disparage them as a "pickup group," but considered them to be very fine players he was honored to perform with. One of them, pianist Bill Bell, was a legend in the Bay Area and beyond. After the show, Milt was in the lobby, shaking hands with those of us who had enjoyed the show. He was a very warm and dignified cat.

That's really cool. I read quite a few interviews of his in the lead-up to this review, and he was very much an advocate of respect... not of credentials or status, but of people in their own right and their own achievements.

Great to have you back. Thanks for sharing your experience and good to hear your excellent prognosis. WRT Jackson, I always wondered if his solo soulfulness and funk was something of a slingshot reaction when released from the confines of the MJQ. If so, thanks John Lewis.

Thanks as always Maurizio, for the technical guidance and your thoughts. You're right about Milt and Lewis. He was never as scathing as Clarke (not even close, and of course he stayed for 22 years so he must have been able to deal with it) but if you read some of his mid-70s interviews post-exit you can tell he wasn't always at ease with the chamber-jazz stuff. Here's an example: nationaljazzarchive.org.uk/explore/interviews/1633622-milt-jackson?

Welcome back and healthy. Thanks for the PSA. Did not know about Milt’s innovations on the vibes. Will give this one a stream for sure - Mike

Thanks so much Mike. It's great to be back. Milt is worth digging into -- that's been my latest collecting bug. The MJQ stuff, weirdly, is not typical of him.

Welcome back Alan! Glad you’re on the better side of this all-so-common man illness. As usual, another great theme and even some air time for Horace. Dig Jazz!

@Raypirri Yes, when you hear the “Hard Bop Grandpop” not being able to flex his funky stylings, that’s a huge surprise.
With Q conducting this all-star outing, I’m on the lookout for this title.

Great to see you back and in improved health. I’m a 15 yr. survivor of this and wish you the best. Also enjoyed your great video on Bags. He and the MJQ are often overlooked. If you cover another vibes player how about Gary Burton.

Thank you... Gary Burton is somewhat unexplored territory for me, beyond Throb. Must change that. And thank you for the good wishes - back at you.

So happy to have you back, Alan!!!👏🏻 Blessed to hear you are well and on the other side of your diagnosis. THANK YOU for speaking on behalf of men getting checked annually. I have 2 close friends who are urologists and they are having men in their early 40’s who are African American and Latino to get their PSA labs done and White males who have been diagnosed with BPH or a family history of the disease. Early awareness and detection is the key to survival.
Thanks for the Bags video-review. I love Bags and “Sunflower” is my favorite solo output by the vibraphonist. I highly recommend that CTI title. I’ve been finding a lot of his work on recent digs and my late father was a massive MJQ fan. Their album with Lou Donaldson and Monk is a must have. I do remember being a kid and going to the record shop with Dad when he grabbed that title. Take care of you, my good sir🙏🏻

Thanks very much for the support and the kind words. I don't know that MJQ/Lou/Monk record... may have to look for it soon. I do have Sunflower, and agree it's really good. Totally different era from this one of course.

@TenMinuteRecordReviews it’s called Milt Jackson and the Thelonious Monk Quintet and Lou Donaldson. It’s a must have, sir. BTW, you look like a million bucks. Happy to have you back. Your testimony will save so many lives🙏🏻

You being an advocate for this curable disease when detected early via PSA blood work, is invaluable, especially for your fan base. Welcome back!
