Making Liberty Yarn for your Crochet Betsy Bag
Thanks. Learned a new thing- your end knots. Always sewed all the petals on first then took out centre paper before sewing petals together. Think I was afraid of folding it. Will try your way.
Thank you for your comment :) I have re-used my papers in at least 3 quilts! all folded, all the time.
Thank you! I’m at this point with my hexis and wasn’t sure how to join them. How do you handle the edges? Finish it off? Thanks again
Do you use batting on a Grandmother Flower Garden Quilt? Do you use a backing?
Hi :) yes, I use both.
Usually, the stitching together of the Hexies for a Grandmother Flower Garden Quilt will create a flimsy (quilt top) and then batting and backing are used to complete the quilt
Where have you been. I have not seen you on ytube.
Hexie
Could u make a Hoxie placemat?...If so, what size would u use?
Hi Susanne, what a lovely idea! Yes, you could absolutely make a hexie placemat using 1" or 2" hexies. As for the size of the placemat, we like to make ours custom to our needs, so we lay out a plate, cutlery (and a glass if you'd like that to sit on the mat also) and measure a rectangle for these items to. sit comfortably. Alternatively there are standard sizes which you can google :)
👍❤
Thank you for sharing your process. I appreciate it and plan to incorporate it in my work
Do you still do your blogs I haven’t seen you for ages.
🥰 I still blog on our website and instagram, but we haven't had the time to produce videos for youtube lately. Hoping to get back in to it full swing for 2024!
@@thestrawberrythief9299 will be nice to see you again , I wondered why I hadn’t seen you. I liked your tips etc. pleased at least your ok.
I wish I had know to order these a couple years ago!! What kind and size needles do you put in these orders?!! Can I still get an order?
Hello 😚 We still offer the Hexie Club subscription - we are always working on hexie quilts around here! We include size 10 Milliners needles with the starter packs. You can find more info on our website here - thestrawberrythief.com.au/product/hexie-club/ Thank you xx
What did you use on the back of the quilt when you Finished it. Love your work
Thank you! I used a Liberty Tana Lawn fabric called Love Pop but it isn't in stock any more. Here is a blog post about backing your quilts that you may find useful - thestrawberrythief.com.au/backing-and-batting-for-your-hexie-quilt/
Can you tell what your back and batting you used.. this is beautiful 😊
Thank you! I used a Liberty Tana Lawn fabric called Love Pop but it isn't in stock any more. Here is a blog post about backing your quilts that you may find helpful - thestrawberrythief.com.au/backing-and-batting-for-your-hexie-quilt/
The batting I use is quiltlite, it is very lightweight and soft. We have it available on our website here: thestrawberrythief.com.au/product/quiltlite-cotton-batting/
I am surprised that you don't use a thimble. I'm 77 yo and my grandmother taught me as a child but ALWAYS had a thimble that fit my finger!
Honestly it depends on my mood 🤣
Looks easy enough….but aren’t you cutting into your stitches by trimming the bits off? I don’t understand how you aren’t.
Just take a picture and stack them in order, way less confusing
Loved your clip !
I never would’ve thought to use variegated thread to quilt. I certainly wouldn’t have picked that orange one lol It looks great.
Thank you :)
Slow but steady, I’m now up to the hand quilting stage. Can you tell me which Aurofil 12 w variegated thread you chose? I love the idea of quilting circles.
I used a Variegated 12 wt Aurifil Thread called Desert Dawn. You can find it here: thestrawberrythief.com.au/product-tag/variegated-thread/?products-per-page=all
Love watching you is the euro maker like a plastic for creasing cards please
Thank you! Yes, the Hera Marker is a hard ureas resin tool that leaves no residue while creating a crease line.
Omg! Never mind the Liberty. Look at that Sanderson. Swooning over your chair.
Do you quilt with the bottom fabric too ? 🇨🇦
Yes, the needle and thread goes through all 3 layers (quilt top, batting and backing fabric). xx
Beautiful quilt top love EPP. 😊
Never heard of threading a needle the "right" way
Thread has a nap; if you thread your needle from the other end the friction from sewing would go against the nap. It’s just better to go with the nap. If you knit something using the wrong end or go against the nap, your item will pill more easily.
Where can I get that little pillow on your lap? I like to do a lot of hand sewing too. And then my neck and back hurts.
I have many hexies in Liberty fabric which I have made into flowers, but not joined to a quilt top. Having seen your beautiful style with the hexie I so wish I hadn’t put the same middle hexie (all the same colour) in the middle of each flower. So love how your design just works and blends in. Thank you for sharing.
First this is absolutely beautiful! I'm new to quilting and see your hexi's are double sided. Is there batting inside? Was this quilt as you go?
The hexies are not double-sided, once the hexies were stitched together the batting and backing was added.
Love your epp tutorials. Are you using a quilt batting, what kind?
Hi Sue, Robyn uses Quiltlite batting for all her quilts, it can be purchased from our website - thestrawberrythief.com.au/product/quiltlite-cotton-batting/
Thank you from a learner 😊
I’m new to EPP and your videos are amazing. Thank you so much. Looking forward to making my first quilt.
When you start quilting, do you start in the middle of the quilt or at one edge and work across? How have you basted it? Love your tutorial.
It really is a personal preference and would depend on the size of your quilt - as for the basting you might want to check out this tutorial - ua-cam.com/video/pJAI5JmgfUg/v-deo.html
So for a big quilt, where would you start? You personally.
I'm gonna say start in the middle.
I really want to see the back ❤
Loved that
I enjoy watching your techniques of sewing your hexagons together. I made one hexagon quilt my first quilt ever 44 years ago. I started my second hexagon quilt almost 10 years ago. I’m in the middle of quilting it. Seeing your techniques I think is good because when I did mine it never occurred to me that their were smarter ways of sewing them together. Again your quilt is very lovely thank you for sharing.
I really liked learning this trimming technique. Your head getting in the way was a little bit distracting though. Maybe you could put the camera at a slight angle so we don't miss any of the technique demonstration?
Robyn, what batting do you prefer?
Hi Anna, Robyn uses Quiltlite batting for all her quilts, it can be purchased from our website - thestrawberrythief.com.au/product/quiltlite-cotton-batting/
@@thestrawberrythief9299 I haven’t heard of Quitlite batting … I’ve just started using wool batting … always interested in what tips and tricks other quilters use and love. Thanks for your reply! I’m just starting to learn EPP … I love your quilt!
… also, I’m in the U.S. so guessing that shipping would be too expensive. Do you know if your batting and Liberty fabrics are available here? Thanks again!
I’ve bought an antique hexi top and a bamboo wadding my hexi’s are 1 1/2 inch how close should my rows be ? I’ve ordered aurifil 12wt
WHAT A BEAUTIFUL HEXI QUILT❣😲
I made flowers on the basis of what you had mentioned. Great.. However I have taken my design wall for a short period of time, down as changed the room around. So I have just been sewing Hexies a lot of time on my knee. It isn’t an easy task getting the quilt to be square . The quilt will end up 108x108 inches. What would you suggest could be an easier way to rectify this. I am slowly sorting, but it’s taking a long time with such a large size. Maybe I was wrong making one so large with hexies by hand. Hehe.
Hi Karen, I suggest you watch ua-cam.com/video/2GgJ3ajIwn4/v-deo.html and see if that helps ❤
Love your top at the beginning of video.. sounds a very good idea.
I like your theory of a solid and a varigateted thread to quilt your Afghan in the end it makes sense to do what you suggest w the threads
Love your liberty fabrics. I am in the process of doing a liberty fabric EPP myself at the moment. The. Choice of fabrics are lovely well worth the extra cost. Fabrics very random, but still go together really well. The quilt I am making is 108x108 inches. I have got 1.75 size hexagons, so it’s taking a good old while to do, but gives hours of pleasure sitting putting it together. Thank you for sharing your work with us.
So glad you are enjoying our videos Karen
Thank you for sharing how to do the 'knot' slowly enough so it's easy to see how it's done!
Hi Robyn - do you tack through the three layers and with aurifil thread? Thank you
Hi Jemma, yes, the purpose of tacking is to hold all 3 layers in position while you quilt the project, once quilted the tacking can be removed, we use a 50wt Aurifil tread but you can use any thread.
Hi Robyn, so you only stitch through the top layer and the batting layer…..is that right??.. Thank you
Hi Jemma, thank you for your message, you will need to stitch through all 3 layers (top, batting, and backing)
I am curious about your batting. I love the softness I see
Hi Donna, we love the softness of the Quiltlite and use it in all of our quilts - thestrawberrythief.com.au/product/quiltlite-cotton-batting/ You can also check out our blog post about batting - thestrawberrythief.com.au/backing-and-batting-for-your-hexie-quilt/
I may have missed this but do you use a single thread or do you double it?
Hi Barbara, we use a single thread but recommend a 12wt thread, I've put a link to the thread we use. thestrawberrythief.com.au/products/haberdashery/aurifil-thread/12wt/
Why not add half hexies? I'm new to EPP.
Hi Alison, you could absolutely use half hexies but you would need to calculate how many are needed to border the quilt and you would need some to be cut vertical and some horizontal so we prefer to trim at the end to give a neat straight line.
I love Robins shirt , is there a pattern for it please ?
Sorry we don't have a pattern for this one but please check out all our other great options thestrawberrythief.com.au/products/haberdashery/patterns/
