A couple saws with more teeth would do wonders for that set-up........make even faster passes
Oddly satisfying. First time seeing this type of mill.
Did you pour the entire height at once? Do you have to? Can you pour like 4 ft all the way around every few days?
Wish I was young again and cutting boards and building a house 🏠 😂❤
I have worked in construction and construction related fields since I was 7yrs old and now 48 I have never had any serious problems from no eye protection. Generally speaking most offered eye protection hinders you in one way or another. Most are cheap and if it was something that could cost you an eye those cheap glasses aren't going to save you anyway. Probably just end up with some plastic in your eyes as well. The thing that is required is common sense when working. & Still if the eye protection makes someone feel better then by all means use it. Just saying I rarely have & I'm still fine 40yrs later
Excellent idea. Can one blade angle to cut bevel boards ?
Great job mounting that log there, it didn’t move at all. Fantastic work and a great design of machine.
Worked on a ranch that wad fly in only access that had a mill just like this one. It was an amazing machine i only got to stack the boards being produced, however we could make a pile of saw dust in no time at all.
Your helper needs to get off his phone and get his ass to work😂
Geart cutting machine, However the guy picking up the cut lumber was stepping over, fumbling when moving wood scraps and looked unprepared to handle the job. Kind of dangerous. Great video, very clear focus.
So that log was worth $384.
The worst helper. Halfass stacker!
Mr , I’m MMA isn’t really putting out any effort , to keep on top of the boards !!!
Why do video makers feel they have to play music. 👎🏻👎🏻
Why am I watching this... I now have a heaadcache from the noise OMG
Good stuff
that its beaaast !!😎👍
There looks to be a lot of slack in the cable
I didn’t see you guys vibrate. The wall is that not needed or was it just not part of the video?
You can make a small fortune with your own sawmill. You just need to start with a large one. 😂😂😂
Hello, what is the the blades diameter?
That’s a great piece of equipment
Great saw. About how much would one of these saws run in price?
you're so lucky having beautiful assistant ....keep up the work guys.
Cut from the other direction for making blocking. You want to cut on the waste side. There’s a larger side of the plate when cutting from the opposing side. Less chance of kickback.
Curious on cost. We're about to build (no basement, just a foundation) and are debating hiring out a traditional foundation or doing ICF ourselves. Can't seem to gauge the cost benefit.
Counting the excavation, footings. Drainage, Gravel, icf with rebar and concrete, and cement floor I spent about $23000 cad. I got the walls and floor quoted for $43k not counting the excavation. I did everything myself with help from family
Looking good!
Looking forward to the raising of the timber frame!!
Anyone know how this icf cost is against a form contractor cost wise ? How much $ are form guys getting per yard installed ?
Máquina interessante pena que no Brasil não tem quando aparece é muito cara
Does the $1.75/sqft include all the other costs to buy the log, the mill time, cost to dry it etc? There is certainly something to be said to milling your own building materials. The big one in my eye is total quality control.
No not really, was mostly counting my costs like, logs, fuel and moulding. It only is that cheap when you have 200k of equipment lol but if you were to buy logs, get them sawn, dried and machined you could still make out pretty good.
And im assuming its recovery product off of beams? @SharpeTimber
Nice machine! Elora? State?
Yeah! And it’s Elora, Ontario.
The guy tailing off the saw needs to remove the boards faster and get his ass in gear
Awesome video and work, Always wondered do you need to vibrate the concrete to help it settle in the forms?
Thanks! It’s not a bad idea to vibrate the forms, there’s a lot of things in the wall that could make cavities. We vibrated it from the outside with a sawzall
You can use 10ga blades and 1/4 bits, and get your saw kerf down as low as most band blades, Heck learn to sharpen solid tooth blades, you can get kerf down to only 10 ga wide.
Really? I tried smaller teeth on the blade and it didn’t work at all
what are the specs of the original footing? it's just a strip footing with some rebar?
Yeah I think it was 8”x20” footing with rebar
I watch all of your sawmilling videos. I run a Lucas Mill and do mobile milling in BC. Do you think the Mahoe mill would do well as a mobile sawmill? It's hard for me to understand how easy the setup and move would be.
If you get the Mahoe with the trailer attachment it can be really nice. I used to mainly use a Lucas mill as well, it is nice and light and easy to put together by hand. With the Mahoe trailer attachment you raise up the beam and then lower it onto the trailer attachment, then hook it up to the truck like a trailer and then pack up your end supports. Milling with the Mahoe is so much less tiring than running the Lucas and so quick to load because there’s no beam to go over or under.
If you want to ask any questions about it you can give me a call as well. If you search my business name on google my number should come up, I’m in Ontario
I dont see any other videos on this project.
I just posted one of me making the timber sill plates. We just poured the cement floor yesterday so I will have a video on that soon. And in a few weeks we are putting up the frame. Thanks for watching!
Wondering between Mahoe and Turbo Saw what advantage and disadvantages each brand has? Any thoughts?
I have never owned a turbo saw, but with the Mahoe and the beam design it has is is very rigid, on some videos of the turbo saw it seems like the beam is too flimsy. Also with 2 blades I can finish a board in 1 pass instead of 2.
@@SharpeTimber Thanks
So was that all quarter sawn? I only watched for 4.5 minutes but it appeared as though that machine could quarter saw without constantly rotating the log.
It wasn’t all quarter sawn. But if I want I can get about 60% quarter sawn on hardwood without rotating the log.
Bonus points for using a proper timber cross cut saw for doing your timber frame joinery. What is that portable band saw you were using for creating the tenons on that one joint? Even more impressive that your sister was doing some of the joinery.
Thanks haha I really like that crosscut saw. I do still need to get a bigger circular saw though. The bandsaw is a Maffell.
Did You ever Get Your little mill to take care of your slabs?
I do have a wood mixer bandsaw to make slabs when I need to
It was the T&G part I wanted to see.
I will be taking it to the shop next week to go through their machine, I will be making a video on that as well.
@@SharpeTimber Thanks.
Will you show the Amish handy work?
Yes, just waiting for the boards to dry and I will be taking it to get machined. Hopefully I can do that and post a video next week
It's quite satisfying to start with a good sized log and mill it into a big stack of lumber.
Yes it really is, I like cutting nice big logs like these. I should have it machined next week and then get my frame up in October.
Nice Video! That stuff should turn out great when its finished! Excited to see it go On the timber frame.
Thanks 👍

Why don’t people in North America build their basements properly right away? The outer walls are always poured first and then the floor . With this type of construction, the basement cannot be sealed and it requires drainage and a sump pump in the basement.
What do you recommend?
@@jeoinaforest Build the house basement like in Germany. Without sump pump, higher electricity bills, drainage, and other hemorrhoids.
@@ivanivanovich2540 we used a dimpled membrane on the last house, Delta MS I believe. Had no trouble and no sump pump…
Cool saw but I’ll take my LT40 any day over this. I guess if you’re just cutting rough lumber is good but not cutting for grade.
