Recently got turned onto Tamarack by a customer who wants it made into shiplap siding and door/window casing. I find that it has similar figuring to red pine, just slightly more red/brown toned. Good stuff, but dear god does it shrink a lot when dried. Only downside is, the nearest good supply of it to where we're at is at least 4 hours southwest of us.
Yes I like it for its Rot resistance. Used it on a few projects, some beams tend to twist but works good on smaller dimension stuff, or depends on the grain in the log. Where do you Live? There isn't much around here in southern Ontario either.
These are deciduous coniferous trees. Like pines but Not evergreen. I cut one down because the lady was convinced her neighbors construction killed her tree and made it lose all its needles! I tried to explain, but she must have been set to hold something against them! Nice wood- the Nordic build saunas and barrel stave hottubs with it
Yes! People here always think they are dead as well, we have saves some by telling them that its normal to do that. But it makes great lumber, very rot resistant.
Where you at where you could tell your father to farmers for bedding for horses or cows, etc. If you had a blower on your discharge and a flexible hose, you could blow it into a waggon or a pile farther away from the mill. Stay safe & GodBless. 🇨🇦✌️
Yes I did, they work really well, I had my bunk at the far end with the second log dog but I was cutting some shorter logs so I just threw another bunk down closer and used wedges. Then I took the other one out of the way so I don't hit it by accident.
It was around 36k USD with shipping included, then I picked it up from about 2 hours away. Not sure what the price is now, I can get you the dealer contact if you want to get a hold of him 👍

Much of the world call Tamarack "Larch." I cut one down with an axe once, the wood was more like rubber than some trees.

Yes we have talked to some farmers about using the saw dust before, God Bless you too!
I think you got the better end of the deal on this trade. Looking forward to seeing your slab wood processor.
Well its a good deal for me and my friend as well, I have to do a bit more milling for him. But I'm excited to get that machine
Nice looking wood!
Yes looks really nice! I have some more that I will use to build the front porch on my house!
@@SharpeTimber that should look fantastic!
Could you do a small tutorial on the dept gauge and side gauge on how they work?
Yes im planning to do a video soon on how to operate the mill and use the gauges 👍
Did you get the log dogs from Mahoe? Looked like you had the front locked down but not the back.
Yes I did, they work really well, I had my bunk at the far end with the second log dog but I was cutting some shorter logs so I just threw another bunk down closer and used wedges. Then I took the other one out of the way so I don't hit it by accident.
What was the total price of your Mahoe mill?
