Youre welcome 👍 when I mill beams for my timber frames I make around $3 bd ft, so I will be putting my sawing prices up a little bit from what they were on this video . Yes it works so well, it sure is a work horse! I should be cutting some pine soon and I think it will really produce a lot of that in a day.
Wish I had known - I worked over 40 years with a degree as accountant/ Controller and the MOST i ever made was $25 an hour! Should have bought a sawmill!!
Hey Bryan! www.finehomebuilding.com/2018/07/10/quartersawn-wood-rift-sawn-wood-explained There are some good diagrams in this article of what they mean. Basically flat sawn is when the grain is sort of parallel with the board face, usually get more of this when you just cut into the log to get the most footage and cut the fastest. Quarter sawn is then the grain is perpendicular to the board face, this kind of cut is the most resistant against cupping.
This is a great video! How much faster is the Mahoe compared to your Lucas? It seems Lucas Mills are quite a bit more portable, and the Mahoe, quicker but twice the price nearly. I'm looking into the swingblade/circular style mills for dimensional lumber.
So I think it is about 2-3 times faster, depends on what we are cutting. The Mahoe is quite portable if you have the trailer attachment. Also with the mahoe it saves so much energy when milling. But the Lucas is a good mill too, we used it for about 10 years
What are you mainly wanting to cut with it? For dimensional lumber it is super good, fast and accurate. It cuts great timbers as well really square and dimensionally accurate. If you are only cutting timbers with your bandsaw it might not be worth it, depending on how fast your band saw is. I have a woodmizer lt 15 wide that I use sometimes.
Equipment, insurance, taxes, and on and on. So what is the real world end result to you. Oh yeah, equipment breakdown, labor on repair, it all adds up. Not to mention competition from people that will undercut you and take your customers. Just saying.
SharpeTimber Frames Ltd., Thank You very much for Video's.. May I ask You - under US-aspects: 1) in relation of New-Price -Machine - to = Value = 0,oo-$ -of- years-?? Tax-years?? (deduct/write-off financially) 2) Wood- Dry-Cost's ? - in EU-Europe - You - can Wood, sell only = Dry.. Thank's in advance, Greetings from Germany,
So I'm in Canada and I can Write off about 20 percent a year for taxes. Also wood costs about $.75 here to kiln dry lumber. This mill would probably work pretty well for what you want to do, but max length is & Meters and biggest log diameter is can cut is 1.8 Meters. Thanks for the comment.
Thanks for running the numbers. Looks like a good deal if you can have steady customers.
Thanks for the breakdown of costs and profit. Great to see a Kiwi product performing so well.

Man that was awesome. Definitely need to come out and see your set up sometime! Couldn’t stop watching, very intrigued by it all haha. 👍🏼
Thanks! And yes for sure!

You can make a small fortune with your own sawmill.
You just need to start with a large one. 😂😂😂
Could you explain quarter sawn vs flat sawn vs the other pile? Trying to figure out what that means.

I've seen guys use diesel as a blade lubricant for bandsaw blades, something similar needed for circular blades?
With this mill and our lucasmill we just use water and we haven't had any problems, works great.
Fantastic video! Loved every second of it. Great shots. You must have a drone?!
Thanks! I am trying to get a good variety of shots. Actually I don't I just lifted my gopro all the way up with the telehandler haha
@@SharpeTimber Haha! My daughter and I were trying to figure out how you did that. Seemed like a long time for a drone to be up there.
Haha yes! My brother lifted me up so I could set the camera, then he let me down, then put the boom back up to the same spot 😜
so cool!!!
Thanks!!

I have a bandsawmill, both am thinking seriously about the Mahoe. Do you recommend the investment?

What about time and labor or harvesting the oak? Or did the client deliver the oak to you?
Yes the client had a log truck drop off the logs. This is just what he paid me to saw the logs 👍
this is just for cutting? they delivered the oak and will pick it up?
Yes, they dropped the logs off, I cut it for them and the customer picked it up.
where u from! I see you have québec hoodie . I am from quebec
Hey! I am from southwestern Ontario, I bought this sweater on a trip to Quebec, its a beautiful place.

I use it for my timber framing business, personal stuff and side jobs. Very worth it for me, Paid itself off in the first year.
