Having grown up in an age of make and mend do, I find myself still no richer and maintaining a long list of older cars that actually, being a petrol head, give me great pleasure.
The only difference nowadays, is that I also have my boys cars to maintain as well.
Hence - Garage of Dad
Thanks for looking and look forward to your questions and comments

Fit Fiesta ST Seats into Mk1 Transit Connect
After a bit of fiddling, I managed to fit Mk6 Fiesta ST seats into my Mk1 Transit Connect using the original brackets from both sets of seats.
This may not be the definitive way but it worked for me.
Please leave a comment if you have a better idea on how to do it.

What computer reader are you using ?
Great videos!!! I've just picked up an FSI yesterday and really looking forward to getting mine running well. min seems to have a bit of a blow from somewhere in the engine area. sounds like an air cooled VW at the moment.
Oh dear! I usually hone in on a blow with a pipe on my ear. Not recommended but always serves me well. If it was on the inlet side, the car won't run well. If it's on the exhaust side, it will still run well but be noisy. Good luck with the car.
No part 2?
You're right!! I finished it off but it was so wet, a lot of the footage was no good :(
Hi, i have the throttle lag on my audi a2 1.4 AUA. I bought this car last mounth and the dealer changed the two belt of the engine before to give me a car. Do you mean is there an issue on this belt change? I have a two second of delay from the pedal pressed and the rpm go up.
The main belt was fitted a tooth out. But these supper from inlet manifold problems and carbon build up on the inlet valves. Try some Redex or fuel treatment first
@ thank you for your answer! I try to clean my throttle body first and see what happen
Hello, good morning, a question please, can a coolant leak from a hose that is at the top of the car wheel cause failures in the ABS brakes? Thank you so much
Not quite sure what you mean but the abs usually fails because the sensors are dirty or the cable is broken
@@garageofdadHello, I mean, if there is a leak of antifreeze fluid through a hose in the circuit, could the ABS brake system fail, taking into account that the sensors are fine? thank you so much
@@tibireal2453 I suppose, if it comes into contact with bare wires, it will corrode them. Spray WD40 onto all wires and connectors and see if it makes a difference.

I have a 1994 525i e34 (OBDI). After viewing your video I figured that, with an adaptor (20 pin to 16), that I would be able to use the Vgate iCar PRO via the adaptor, but have been unable to connect to the ECU. If you know of a way to enable me to use the iCar PRO on my OBDI car, I would appreciate your (or someone's) leting me know.
I know that it'll connect with some models and not others. You may have to deep search on forums to find the answer or if someone else on here knows.
You put a new track rod end on not track control arm.

Belle technique pour la géométrie 👍⭐⭐⭐
I've one of these it's a 2.2 5 cylinder from 1988 and it's totally rust free and only done 96000 miles And you should never ever rev a cold engine on any car let it idle to let the oil circulate
Thanks for the video, just about to tackle the same job on a coupe i have recently bought!
Did you have to follow any specific procedure to release the pressure in the fuel lines before starting? Also, where did you source the replacement injectors? Do you happen to have the part numbers for them?
To relieve the pressure I gradually released the pipe that goes into the high pressure fuel pump. Steve Edwards in the A2 owners facebook group has the injectors in stock. Here's a link to the O-rings I bought and the injector number that was on mine. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/276057470892
Interesting that your car has the injector cooling fan. I thought that was only on the turbos.
Yes spoke to the chap who sorted the K-jetronic and said in the UK it wasn't really necessary on my car.
@@garageofdad Well if you ever want to remove it drop me a note, I'll buy the manifold and flexy pipe off of you!
Happy days
Did you found the problem's origine ?
It needed a de-coke but it also had a faulty injector which I replaced and is running fine now 👍

Had my one 14yrs and would never get rid of it 😂
Hello I'm encountering problems with my car 1.6 FSI petrol. Have been working with this car for the last 5 months fixing a problem at a time as I've had to use her. The last problem I seem to have is only on cold starts. If she's left overnight or over a period over 8 hours the only way I have seen to start her is to refer up to 2000 RPM hold it there for approximately 30 to 40 seconds then she will run fine but if not then there is large amounts of clunking happening in the engine if you have any thoughts on this please get back to me I would be greatly appreciative.... PS thank you for all of your videos they've been a great help
That's a new one to me! Could be something simple like the MAF sensor. Check that all the sensor plugs and vacuum lines are ok. The best thing is to get VAG-Com onto it and see what codes ping up. The FSi's do rattle for about 2 seconds when cold (like a tractor) but should idle fine after that.
Thank you for your reply have been watching on your videos for quite a while the other bit that makes it confusing as when it's warmed up no problems but if I left her overnight and the sun had been out first thing in the morning I will be able to fire the car over normally without it doing anything and it will run perfectly... I was told that possibly it might be something to do with the oil sensor in the sump.... do need to definitely get a decent code reader on this
El duende verde ahora es mecanico ? 😮
Would sleeping width ways without being diagonal be achievable being 5ft10?
Yes, I'm 6ft ans was ok. I measured it out on my workshop floor with boxes either end to try it first as I like the duvet tucked round my feet!!
Great video thanks, it felt like I was a pal there watching, and the reason I watched it, yes your right the abs light is on my Vivaro and its pointing to the wheel sensors that are at fault
Great thanks. Hope you get it fixed 👍

If it was the diff all the gears would be affected The rear gearbox mounts looking like there’s a lot of movement in it I’d be draining the gearbox and checking the oil for signs of doom
My KV had both engine mounts separate the rubber from the metal bowls that sit in, don’t discount that Easy/cheap fix from underneath
Oh NO!! You're definitely having some bad luck with this one, but then it's often the way when a car has been off the road for a while. I had similar issues with my B2 Coupe - spent 2 years getting it done up then finally MOTd, then a horrible rattling started- turned out the clutch friction plate was breaking up, so I did a clutch kit and flywheel re-skim. The blower motor went as well!! As others have said, drain the gearbox oil and see if there's any metal glitter in there first. Would be worth doing this and possibly removing the gearbox now to inspect the clutch also, so you can build up the right stock of parts over the winter ready for spring. Completely feel your pain, so much patience is required with these old motors but it's a superb car and will be worth it in the end!!
Yes my thought entirely. I've ordered the correct size of sump plug key and will have a look at the oil when it arrives. TBH I always had an inkling the box wasn't right just never had the opportunity to drive it any further than the drive to find out - Keep watching and thanks for the comment.
Great video. You make it look so easy.
It's not but if you take your time and get a helping hand, it is achievable.
I feel the pain, it was so close, but if a job worth doing .... we'll see it finished next year I'm sure.
I've come this far and am going to see it though 😀
Sounds not great indeed. Start by draining the gearbox oil and see if there is some glitter in there.
Yes, going to do that very thing. I was hoping it was going to be OK but like everything else, I've had to replace them because it stood for so long.
Ah unlucky. Dumb question really but Is the gearbox even attached? Looks like it's moving all over the place. Are the mounts shot?
Spoke to the original owner and the box has never been apart from the engine. I'm going to jack it right up in the air and check them then. They are the originals and will replace them if I remove the box.
How do you get the Cowel off above the intake manifold
You have to remove the rubber scuttle/bonnet trim then prise up the plastic trim and there are 2 Torx screws underneath it holding the top of the cowel on plus 3 10mm nuts holding it onto the bulkhead. Hope that's the part you are on about? (air intake for the heater unit)

Thanks for the video! If the gear selector tower doesn't pop up even without the cable (shaft that goes through nylon bush) what could be the cause?
It's sticking on the nylon bush. I had to remove mine and sand it down a little with some emery paper then refit with some nylon lubricant
