  • The stuff of legends!!! The kit in this review is a twenty year old work horse. Something magical happened in the beginning days of Pacific Drums and Percussion. I've always felt there was something special about this kit. I got it from Billy Hyde in Fortitude Valley, Brisbane early 2004. I was there to buy a drum kit. There were several on the floor including all the familiar faces. I tapped on each of them, went back to the blue PDP and said "I'll take that one." Since then, this kit has been with me. I've played several other drum kits but this one has always remained my favorite! It's been through many sets of heads, loaded in and out hundreds of times in the sun and in the rain. It's never missed a beat - pardon the pun - Fun to play. Great sound! Great drums!!!

Yes! been saying it forever - the early pacific Mexico were the best bang for buck kits ever made. I like them better or equal to current dw usa drums. I had a solid maple lx snare with no re rings for like 100 bucks then played a guys pacific kit from same era and couldn't believe how good it sounded, felt, and tuned up easily. The only downside to me was the egg shaped potmetal lugs, but so what all things considered.

Nice one! There's still a few getting around. Definitely a score. The dislike of the lugs is common. I'm not too bothered by them but I agree that some different lugs could elevate the appearance of the drums. As you say though all things considered, who really cares... I'm not much of a fan of the round DW lugs on their kits. Thanks for chiming in! Cheers!!!
