      Haha it was just a long day Dean, The heat got to me but i can say it was such a great experience, We camped alot in Oz and had alot rougher bathrooms in our travels, The western toilet was a win for me haha. Something both myself and Matt will never forget and the people we meet that had very little but were so welcoming. That makes it. Thanks for feedback.

    What a great experience, you guys are so adventurous. We are a little spoiled and like a bit more luxury like air con and rooms without gaps, lol, Many years in Thailand I managed a month on a remote island near Krabi without any luxuries, even the beer was warm.

It's on the list, sadly just didn't work out for us this time, but im sure it will be a goer next time. Thanks for the tip. Thanks for feedback.

      @ yeah, Brits and Aussies are wild to explore as tourists and are direct just like the Dutch 🤣 The first white man I ever met and physically touched was an Australian photographer in Hanoi back then in 1990, at an old aircraft museum in a cold winter evening. I was taken photo with an American jet and we shook hand. The first English sentence was practiced: “Where do you come form”. “Úc” (literally Australia in Vietnamese), he answered. I was 5 then 😆. First impression really matters. I also love Australia. I hope you had nice experiences in Vietnam. Seems like the currency is being kept weak to attract $ 🤣 what ever dollar it is.

    Hi B&M, really interested in your Vietnam Cambodian adventures. As a fellow Aussie I love following your videos. Can you tell me why you chose to go by boat from HCM to Cambodia instead of something like Giant Ibis Bus. Also I think cash is king in these countries, did you use/change Australian dollars into Riel much in Cambodia or have to change our currency into US$ to pay for everything (did you change in AUS or enroute). I was hoping to pay by AUD at the boarder much like VOA in Bali...is this possible or can I pay by credit card (i have a CBA Ultimate MC that doesn't attact international fees) The Giant Ibis bus company do transfers from HCM to PP to SR to BKK and I believe you can by a multi pass for these connections....YES? Keep up the informative travels

    • @BecMattAdventures
      @BecMattAdventures 5 днів тому

      Hi Melissa, First off thank you for your kind words and we appreciate your support. First , We went by boat as it was one of our bucket list is to travel on the Mekong river on a boat (not just do a tourist cruise to say you been on the Mekong ) and once Matt found this is a option he explored this further to cross international border on a boat on the Mekong, compared to overland in a bus, (which to us is very boring ) the boat crossing was a experience of a lifetime for us and very memorable. We had read many stories about the crossing and none seem to be true (horror stories). It was a pleasant experience and ran smoothly as per video. We have been on many buses (overnight buses and nothing really memorable about them haha, Its a means of travel., Also buses are known for many deaths as to speed and times they have to meet , so we only use them as last resort mainly. Cash is king and for smaller purchases we used cash but card for anything larger purchases and money withdrawal. We used our card for withdrawal in Riel (Local currency ) like $200 AUD worth and had Some AUD notes on us which we were going to change into some USD to have on us , Which Bong took us to the biggest bank in Cambodia , there was like 50 something tellers haha, AUD notes are very distinctive and being plastic always look great, We had some hundreds and fifties. The bank did not change the 100s notes and they had like 5 tellers look at them holding up to the light (It was soo funny) But they refused to change them ( Recommend to take $50 notes ) as they changed them no issues (I think it was more being a high value note they would not take the risk on them) , Strange i know. We knew the boat trip to get VOA at border was $35 USD and for easy travel have USD and pay in USD if you use this method for smooth experience, I can not speak for other entries and payment options as we only did this border entry to enter Cambodia. We think its worth to have USD to pay for visa on arrival as its uncomplicated, That's what they want , We always have some USD as we travel to many different countries and if anything goes pear shape we have some universal currency that will get us out of trouble ( say our cards stop working or lose your card ) we treat it as last resort insurance get us out of a tight spot. We got our USD before we went on holiday and knew we would need it for the border crossing, There was 1 lady on our boat didn't have USD to pay for visa , it was a bit of a issue and stressful time for the people involved , they worked it out but it was unnecessary stress i believe. Most things like transport and hotels we booked online and paid online by our card, Most things in Cambodia you can pay in USD or local currency , we paid for some train tickets in USD and they gave us change in USD and Riel (Local currency) usually bulk in USD then last bit in Riel (Strange i know) Don't know too much about IBIS bus, like most buses , we try and only use them as last resort. We always try and book VIP buses as they hold 20 people and Normal buses hold 30 people ( Explained in our Chau Doc video at start. ) We did not do Siem Reap and this weeks video shows another adventure we did in Cambodia (Again we will never forget it , as it was sooo unique ) as we left SR for another time, Matt always keen to do something unique and not the norm (it's not for everyone ) We were more transiting through Cambodia We will head to Thailand as well as next time we want to do SR and the coast and few other places in Cambodia. Hope some of our videos can be of help. The border crossing for us to Cambodia up the Mekong was a highlight for us and something will never be forgotten. Thanks for feedback and if we can be of help , Please reach out. PS, Be mindful in Cambodia of petty crime, No need to be scared but be very mindful. Its 1 place in Asia that a little self care goes a long way, no need to have your holiday ruined. ( don't wear valuable and keep phones and tech very close to you ) We did not have any issues but we were very aware of our own safety to not let anything possibly happen.

    • @BecMattAdventures
      @BecMattAdventures 5 днів тому

      Your arriving quiet late, Its a 50/50 for a taxi to be sure as last flights out of Bali seems to be 1am , so less taxis would be dropping off. To make smooth sailing at that time i would either have a private driver organized, Or go to the 2nd option to the Blue taxi stand , Where they have the TV with prices and get a taxi from there. Would not want you to wait upstairs for long periods when there's a chance a taxi might not come for ages. Hope this helps Thanks for feedback.

    Thanks for the video. Is there some reason you didn't get the e-Visa online, and if you did, wouldn't that avoid handing over your passport to the boat owners? Was there anyone on your boat with an e-Visa?

    • @BecMattAdventures
      @BecMattAdventures 5 днів тому

      Our plans was bit up in the air and we always found getting visa on arrival is always easy and simple (if it is available) Giving the passports to the boat people was very efficient and logical when you see how it all works and would recommend as it is a simple process. No one on the boat had a e-visa everyone just did visa on arrival, The process was very easy and uncomplicated. Being the first time in Cambodia for us i can not say about the e-visa situation but as for us (Australians) getting a visa on arrival was straight forward. Hope this helps. Thanks for feedback. PS - im only thinking here but if you had a e-visa i would say more than likely they still would hold your passport as the Vietnam side (they did everything) and Cambodian side would likely hand it back to you but im not sure exactly how it would work and vice versa depending on your path of travel.

    Great vlog guys. Been going to Phuket for 20 years and always looking for new places. Yes, Maccas is expensive in Thailand, hence you see very few Thais there, mostly they will go to KFC. I love mango sticky rice, must have walked past that place 50 times! I will look out for it now haha. Decent full English breakfasts are difficult to come by in Phuket, unlike Pattaya. You had one there that was very close. Thanks for the upload. Very informative and I enjoyed watching.

    Early on in my stay in Phnom Penh, I visited a shooting range near the airport. I had the option of firing a rocket launcher, but instead the AK-47 was my weapon of choice. What surprised me was the amount of recoil from this gun - my right shoulder was sore for four days. Also could've thrown a grenade as well.

    • @BecMattAdventures
      @BecMattAdventures 13 днів тому

      Love it James, We did shooting in the USA and few types of guns, we are not gun people but same as you the recoil took us by surprise, Nothing like the movies. Haha. Cambodia for us felt like the last wild frontier that anything goes. Grenade , Rocket launcher that you could actually do live. Blows your mind. Any desire to go back James or Bali is for you? Thanks for feedback.

      @@BecMattAdventures Will certainly get back to Cambodia one day - most likely to the beaches of Sihanoukville. Cambodia does have its seedy side though. When I first arrived, I caught a motorcycle taxi from the airport to my hotel. The driver quickly asked me if I wanted any drugs. I said no, so he then asked if I wanted a lady. Once again I told him no. He then asked if I wanted a young girl - another no from me. It became even sadder when he asked if I wanted a young boy. After another no, he asked me if I liked guns. Finally he got a yes out of me - hence my trip to the shooting range. If you haven't already read it, I recommend you get a book called "Off the Rails in Phnom Penh". It gives a great insight into the dark side of that city. The author is Amit Gilboa.

      @@jamesplunkett9567 James thats exactly how we felt there seems to be a dark side of cambodia that's if you want it and can happen. Lovely people that most have nothing but always a smile, Only thing we did felt bit unsafe walking at night compared to rest of asia due to petty crime but still a pleasent experience. Will check your recommendation out on that book. Thanks for feedback. We are only transiting through Cambodia when we did this trip and still good to see it.

So I load up on Vnd before I go and when I use the Grab app it pays in Vnd, no fees no crappy exchange rate... Theoretically. I will let you know how it goes when I get there next week :) #corrianderislyfe :)

No issues. The hardest part of whole procedure was at start could not eat anything hot for like 2 days. Haha As to any health check up, for us no but if your health is comprised see a health professional before you travel. Hope this helps

    Your videos are so helpful thanks. Question from Australia 🇦🇺 is it best to apply for visas before leaving home, or do it at airport 🤔

    • @BecMattAdventures
      @BecMattAdventures 16 днів тому

      Great question Colleen, I would suggest now as of Nov, Bali has automatic gates to enter and exit if you have a visa, you can get a visa at the airport and we usually do this but one time we waited 2hrs to pay for visa. So last time we did online before (apply for tourist visa B1 I think it is) And once at airport walked straight to automatic gates and cleared immigration in 20 seconds. So from now on will be doing it before we go, does take time to do it from home, took me about 1 hr for both visas but I'm at my home and comfortable. Only issues I had had to upload return ticket and something else in pdf form. That took most time to convert to pdf but I worked it out. The visa on arrival counter is hit and miss, times it been 5 min wait other times 2hr wait. Hope this helps. Smart traveller aust website should help you. Also will need to download satuhealth app, I can post tonight when home from work if you like. ( thats for monkey pox registration) They just ask basic stuff like what flight your on and seat number if there ever a outbreak. Hope this helps.

      @colleenperry635 yes correct its 35 usd, which equates about 50 aud to enter. Ill post 3 links this arvo for you. 1 : immigration for visa 2 : customs link ( can do 3 days before you go) 3 : satuhealth pass ( monkey pox.) 2 and 3 just take screenshots on phone and keep on your phone and show at Bali when asked. Look at visa if you think its too much work can get visa at airport ( can pay cash in Australian dollars) If pay by card they will charge in Indonesian rupiah

      Hi Tracey, We did Vietnam visa online in oz to enter Vietnam. To exit Vietnam was just a passport stamp in you passport with no cost to leave Vietnam ( i think it was about $50 aud roughly to enter Vietnam) We got a visa on arrival to enter Cambodia and was USD $35 each and as Australian we could get a Visa on arrival at Cambodian border that was the USD payment for to get a visa at the border. For the boat ride we just booked online and was charged in Vietnamese as per website. Thankyou for your kind words. Hope this helps. We thoroughly enjoyed it as we heard many stories about this border crossing and was not what we had heard. Was so much easier than we expected. We paid in USD $20 notes and didn't check them as they were bit old , but they thoroughly check USD $50 & $100 USD notes, that people were paying. Also we went to Cambodia main bank to change some Aust notes $100 note, to USD notes, the bank eventually declines them even though they are plastic and super crisps, but accepted $50 AUD notes no issues. I think they would not see alot of $100 AUD notes. Recommend take some 50 notes. We used EFT to withdraw some Cambodian Rial, but went to bank to get a few hundred USD notes.

      Your very welcome, That's exactly why we show them as to give the people confidence to do it and a step by step what to expect, we wanted to go the Mekong and more than just a 30 min tourist ride and thought this be a great experience, It exceeded our expectations and had heard some horror stories but nothing like we had heard. It was a super pleasant experience and a great journey to travel up the Mekong Also we mentioned the passport that boat company holds your passport as we were little nervous but was seamless and now understand why they do it. We try to show exactly what to expect. It's something will never forget.

    Way back in 2003, I sponsored a 7-year-old Cambodian boy through Plan International. The following year I went and visited him. After flying to Phnom Penh, I caught a boat to Siem Reap. The next day, after a long drive towards the Thai border, I finally arrived at the family home. The young lad took one look at me, then ran off into the jungle. I don't think he'd seen a white person before. His older sister eventually coaxed him back to the house, so it all ended well.
