    Sorry, maybe this is a dumb question but how you give different materials to both objets? i mean one material to the base objet and another material to the sphere/cyilinder/ etc

    I accidentally inserted the "Fillet Curve" instead of the "Fill Curve" :D Pretty interesting result if you're looking for alien letters ;D I would have liked to see how you set up the world lighting and stuff and how you rendered it out. When I do the render it takes ages! Thanks for sharing with us:)

    man, this was such a nice tutorial, well explained and at a reasonable pace in a relatively short video. perfect. definitely learned a few things and if anything I have a saved set-up that I can apply to anything else I want. thanks a lot! this video is going on my playlist!

    As of version 4.0 the Transmission roughness slot has been removed, can you tell me how I can get similar stuff in newer versions? On the forum of the blender itself someone managed to achieve a similar effect with Coat, but this method does not seem to be suitable for crystal material. At least my material, with all other settings equivalent to yours, is not too similar to your result

    • @lycanthrophy616
      @lycanthrophy616 12 днів тому

      to be honest, even without that option you still get almost the same result. mine looks absolutely fine and I just skipped over the transmission roughness

    This was amazing. I got the results I needed for what I was doing, but I shall study this.. the connection between the nodes, how they interact, I shall study this until I understand everything. As a programmer for over 30 years, I like knowing exactly how things work, not just WHY they work or THAT they work. Wonderful job!

    how do i color the individual faces?

  • @alexg963
    @alexg963 2 місяці тому

    Thank you for this, you have no idea how much time you’ve saved me. I have a couple dozen bitmap planes with alpha transparency that I’m using for a project and copying this node setup will be far easier than my other (quite limited) options. I’m honestly kind of shocked there’s no addon that can create geometry from the contours of an image like this. I can’t imagine it’d be too hard trace the outline and place vertices at the corners of each edge pixel for some pretty clean geometry. Maybe I’ll make it if I ever have the time to dive into python. A tip for anyone else who had issues with this: manually subdivide the original plane once or twice to make it follow the outline of the image more closely if the geometry doesn’t align well with the image. I have been having issues with the technique in the video where it is producing imperfect contours, and this seems to alleviate it almost entirely. I’m still having issues where it it is assigning alpha to the new faces created by the extrusion because it is still just slightly off from the original image. Rather than it extending the colors from each edge pixel like in this video. But that can be fixed if you mess with the texture mapping after the fact as well. Also, if you do an initial one or two subdivisons before going into the geometry nodes, you’ll obviously end up with a ridiculous amount of geometry. But a limited dissolve after the geometry nodes are applied seemed to work fine, bringing the face count on the front down to one or two. Which is much better than many thousand. 😅 Sorry for the text wall, but I was just doing a lot of research on this stuff so I didn’t have to model each piece manually and wanted to share my thoughts. Thanks again for the video!!

    • @Khamurai
      @Khamurai 4 місяці тому

      Both has it's own strenghts and weaknesses Main thing about doing simulations with geonodes is how fast you can change and iterate on things. You can expose any parameters you want from the node setup and reuse the whole setup any number of times with different values or objects or whatever else you want to swap out. You also have things like geometry proximity and all the other cool features available in geonodes that you can use along with the simulation too to further modify the behaviour of the simulation. In the end it's about what you need at the moment or what you feel more comfortable with using, and since this channel is focused on geometry nodes this is the approach I chose Cheers

    The old way you showed is very creative, but it would never occur to me to do, since for longest time blender had serviceable particle system that had built in brownian motion and boids. Using GN is a good exercise in finding out how particle system work and customizing it, but not something I would turn to whip out something quickly.
