Philippe Ducasse | Contact Staff Intermediate / Advanced Tutorial | The Matrix
In this tutorial, we will be learning an more difficult trick to bring new flow to your contact staff technique. To learn the matrix you need to know the neckwrap and the steve at a minimum, but the more tricks you know before attempting to learn this one, the easier it will be because you will have a greater affinity for the staff in general.
0:00 Introduction
3:40 Entering the ~MaTRiX~
5:15 Transitioning over the chest
7:30 Exit / final step
8:34 Variations

This move is also a lot more physical so it helps to work on your flexibility (especially lateral flexibility), and also keep your legs firmly grounded.
The video is structured by breaking down the various stages of the trick. make sure to practice each section separately before attempting to do the whole trick in sequence. If your stuck, have a look at the variations chapter at the end of this video!
Let me know if there are any other tutorials you would like to see! Have fun learning.

This video sucks for teaching. I'm a beginner and I don't know what I'm doing. This video is for people who aren't beginners and don't need anything shown to them. You showed the trick, didn't explain how to to the trick, and didn't slow down or show step by step.

That is quite clearly taught w attention to details. Ty Please, what is the flower addition to the staff, that slows it? Ty Too, l have a 1⅙"x 50" light rattan, no tapering, no tape, no end caps. I like it, being wood, and I'm also new to staff, having been spinning bamboo cane for fun a bit. Are the tape and ends necessary, and what are they, please? Ty

Philippe, you are awesome. Thanks so much for this exceptional tutorial. I have spun staff for years but never really tried to do any tricks. Recently I ended up at a gathering of 50 or so Fire Toy enthusiasts and it opened my eyes to what is possible with the contact staff. This greatly inspired me to learn more and your videos are the thing which makes that possible. Particularly The Steve which has already opened a whole new world or moves for me. Thanks so much 🙂🙂🙂

@@philocircus2242 Thank you very much once again for these videos. 2 Months of practice later I can do Steve's, half Steves, infinite Steves and half Steves, in both directions (thanks for the encouragement there). Also, not good form but fun none the less, going left to right, right to left and so on which is one of my Practice drills (x20). Next mission is the alterate version of the Steve and the Angel Roll from another of your videos. Thanks again, I am really grateful and appreciative of the videos, I would not have been able to achieve this without them and the benefit to me can not be over stated. Firestaff is doing for me what Meditation and Tai Chi seem to do for others and has become an essential part of my day.

For those asking if you NEED a purpose built staff, easy answer is no. Any straight and very well-balanced pole/staff will work, but weight is a very important factor. If the staff is unbalanced or too light you will have trouble keeping it in contact with your body
