the complicated state of gen z friendships (2025)
Navigating Friendships in 2025 Feels Impossible
Friendship used to be simple. You met people at school, bumped into someone at work, or got introduced through mutuals. Now? It feels like friendships exist more in group chats than in real life. Conversations happen over texts that get left on read for days. You make a new friend, but instead of seeing them weekly, you just watch their life unfold on Instagram stories.
We live in a time where it’s easier than ever to connect but harder than ever to feel connected.
Over the years, I’ve caught myself thinking…
“Why do I feel lonelier even though I talk to people every day?”
“Why do my friendships feel so surface-level?”
“Am I overthinking, or is it actually harder to make and keep friends now?”
The truth?
Gen Z friendships are just complicated.
Between social media, shifting social norms, and a culture that glorifies independence, friendships now come with a unique set of struggles. Ghosting has become normal. Friendships feel disposable. The pressure to constantly be entertaining or “worth keeping around” makes it hard to just be. And when most interactions happen online, it’s easy to feel like you have friends-but no one to actually call when you need someone.
In this video, I dive into the reality of navigating friendships in a digital age. I talk about why it feels harder than ever to make real connections, why we struggle with maintaining friendships, and how social media has changed the way we define closeness.
So if you’ve ever felt like friendships now are way more complicated than they should be-this one’s for you. Let’s talk about why, and what we can actually do about it.

But here’s the truth I’ve learned: Being “ugly” is easy....

the truth about the loneliness epidemic
Christian Aaliyah, I deeply resonated with your words. I've been in those shoes, feeling invisible and unattractive, like I didn't exist. Even on special days like birthdays, I felt forgotten and unimportant. Those experiences fueled self-doubt, making me question my worth and the gifts God has given me. I used to hide, feeling like I was trapped in a room, ashamed to face the world. But your video brought hope and healing. Thank you for sharing your truth and helping me see my value
Christian I just wanted to say that your videos are a breath of fresh air You remind us that there's more to life than physical beauty - that our goals, passions, and self-acceptance are what truly make us beautiful. Your message of self-love and self-acceptance is so empowering, and I'm grateful for your content
Christian I want to tell you that I saw your video recently and I'm so much addicted to your channel! I really like what you say, this is the content we wanted! I want to tell girls who seek validation from someone but don't give it to themselves... thanks, your video is really helpful! Thanks, this is what we all wanted! And I'm really saying, you are beautiful and you look like a doll! Lots of love from India, keep going, reach a high level ❤
Im currently shocked by the amount of people feeling the same way
I have friends, but they are all not what I’m truly looking for. I hope someday to find good positive friends, most of the time I’m with my brother and mother cuz they are amazing and I enjoy talking with them so much, sometimes I feel « wired » cuz I spend a lot of time with my family at 17 but I’m glad to have them so much
Seriously people call you ugly at school?? You look amazing.
I’m just ugly and slim I hate it.
So inspiring ❤️
Is someone out there never in an official relationship because they are not allowed, or because their parents are strict. They make conditions of school first then you can date anyone you want later. This is somehow my case, but recently someone unexpectedly confessed to me and then cut me off immediately after confessing. I think the messaged he got from my reaction to his confession was i was not into him but it turns out i am. Now, I am so confused and in a contradiction of wanting something to happen at the same time i think i would also feel relieve if nothing happens due to personal reasons that i haven't dived deeply yet. I'm also having thoughts in talking to him. Ughh I am so indecisive. It really feels so heavy and i haven't realized beforehand that i would be this affected.
I just subscribed to you hours ago. Im glad youtube recommended me a video of yours about things to do as a teen. It really opened my eyes in a eye opener way hahaha😂 and the way you make your vids compared to other youtubers despite being long is just right. Every second of your content is great no redundancy like literally
Welcome to the family!!
I’m ngl the comments look dire for humanity. People clearly longing for genuine connection coping that they are somehow happier than those romantically evolved, and justifying that society should be made around “ singleness” will never happen guys. We didn’t evolve this for no reason.
Amazing video. It really felt like you were talking to me❤ thankyou so much 😊
Yahh 🎉 Christina, congratulations 👏🎉 I love you, keep doing what you do best, keep being there for us. I'm happy for you I'm your friend @Genius 😂
80 dates and no boyfriend? Girl, the issue is YOU. Stop looking for the perfect Disney prince.
If I am kind to myself, I will never leave an authoritarian country with a terrible economy.
Thank you for your vieos. I am sure it helps a lot of people like it helps me.
I need this right now as a teen. I've become too focused in achieving good in my studies. To the point that I don't let my self have fun. Seeing other high achievers also have fun without being grumpy baffles me its because how can they enjoy life and at the same time achieve greatness in their studies. And so i think im just too hard and and negative about myself.
As a man I feel I need to preface this just so we're om the same page. Yes, pretty privilege (Lol) is a thing, however there's a reason we don't marry the pretty girl or even give them a stable relationship with kids, a car and ticky tack house. A lot of guys will either use them as a bucket or are too scared to commit to them out of fear that she's probably been passed around. Believe it or not (whether or not u wanna call it "mysogny" or "nature") most gents want the important things in their lives brand new. Plus its just embarassing around male circles if u put a ring on a girl that's been passed around. So "pretty privilege" is a double edge sword girls (oh yes I said it). For one, as the "pretty girl", you're never really sure if the guy is into you or just wants to smash and dash, and even if he doesn't do such buffoonery, you're never really sure if he's even with you becuz he luvs you or becuz he's just using as a vase to decorate his shallow life (the proverbial "trophy wife"), and if so then you better becareful becuz that man isn't married to YOU, he isn't in a relationship with you, he's in a relationship with your body, and ohh yes my luv, looks fade (truth is some of y'all age ok, but some y'all be aging like milk becuz of ur diet, or not drinking enough water or lack exercise etc.,). Now its ok to age (can't believe I have to even say that smh) but if u r in a relationship where your looks are what keeps him around then u best believe he'll dip either becuz someone better comes along or becuz "oh you gained too much weight", "Oh you let yourself go" etc., etc., That dude (or girl) never loved you. Anyways my point is, its a bit difficult to discern sincerity under circumstances where your lookd attract all sorts of men, from the trash of the earth to good dudes who'd treat you good. Now am I saying looking good is bad? No. We all would love to be handsome/beautiful (btw, this disregards how indeed beauty IS in the eye of the beholder. Some of y'all, I'm sorry to say, be thinking u r God's gift to earth whilst really, being perceived as bang average by people outside your social bubble. So practice humility, I digress), & there's nothing wrong in wanting to be beautiful/handsome, but you have to have more depth than that. Believe it or not, a lot of men aren't shallow, we WILL look at your personality, your history and your moral values. If u score negative on all those things its only natural we cross you off the list coz really, most guys understand that looks fade, its what you're left with afterwards that's a testament to your intelligence and depth as a man. I'm sorry but simply being pretty isn't enough anymore. I'll happily take a woman that has all the things I need in my life over one that simply thinks her body and looks entitle her to an ATM machine that regularly cosplays as a butler, but again, I digress.
I was also horrible at taking compliments, but I’ve learnt to take the compliment with a steady thank you sincerely, or when its true I would compliment the person too
big advice: don't feet the pressure to have a relationship just becuz everyone around has. this might lead you to a toxic one that is gonna destroy you mentally!! be patient and careful <3
Listen, you deserve thiss❤
I found one of your videos just recently, but now I've watched so many of them. I can so deeply relate to the things you say, it's truly supporting! Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experiences; it helps me so much to feel seen and understood ❤ please keep going, you're doing such an important job
completely lost
i’m 14 and ik that’s young to worry abt having a relationship, but it sucks so much. my own friends say that they can’t imagine me with someone. sometimes i feel unloveable and ugly. i rlly don’t know whats wrong with me bc atp everyone is dating or talking to people. ughh
Ugly girls are not invisible. Plain girls invisible. Ugly girls get plenty of attention of the wrong kind. If you ever had bad acne or similar you would know. Invisible is ok. You can even be grateful for it, as many older women are.
God dude this video ate like crazy, focus up straight people. This one is a real one.
currently 14 and just got asked out for the first time, this video's amazing.
