Wood Fired Sauna and Cold Plunge in the Goodland Tub
Enjoying the sauna and cold plunge on a snowy late-winter day.
The Goodland wood-fired tub has been a great compliment to our the timber frame sauna. For now, the tub sits on the deck by the house until I get around to building a deck in front of the sauna. We use the tub at least once a week as a wood fired hot tub, but on sauna nights (usually 2-3 times a week) it gets used as a cold plunge. In this video, the tub water temp was 32 degrees... quite invigorating!

Use smaller pieces
Bai dam koto
1:18 IMPORTANT STEP! : make drill sound like lifeguard whistle when somebody running around the pool
How can you take these individual pieces and make cut sheets with them?
I use an extension called "Cutlist". Unfortunately, they have cut support for the free version and shut down the extension warehouse. I guess I will need to switch to the paid version at some point.
Good job great video
Over engineered. The building was fantastic, but the base was overkill. Set 4 posts and set it on top. Way too many parts to this base.
Just after placing the blind, we had a thunderstorm hit with 75 mph wind gusts. Over engineered felt just right.
STOP
Do you know if you can get plans for the frame?
Hundreds of years ago in Finland, a sauna was a place where it was warm. Then it was invented that you can wash yourself (and give birth) clean of all dirt there. Then we noticed that it is also comfortable. Finns in 2024 will go to the sauna to clean themselves of all the sweat, bad smells and rude things!i Can say that Finns are the cleanest and happiest people in the world.
We definitely think the Finns are on to something. My wife is a doula, so she'd be interested in that birthing idea.
OH Yes I forgot my plug cutter out in the garage smh!
You could also cut a short piece off a dowel. Not as good as a plug due to grain direction, but it works.
This is incredible! I work with wood a bit, actually helping build a church on a friend's property today with post and beam. My dad is an exceptional wood worker that I will not reach the skill level of. This!! From felling to milling to the joinery and down to the geared hatch... this blew me away! The internet is so unfortunately lame with its armchair experts that's sole reason to exist is to be a negative dork. Ignore them, as there is a grear quote that explains them perfectly: "The less one has accomplished, the more one trivializes another's accomplishments" Absolutely incredible work my man! 👌🏻
Thanks for the kind words. Greatly appreciated.
You need to run a hot water like to a spigot that way you can fill with hot water and expedite the heating
Gorgeous!! ❤❤❤ I wish I took shop in high school.
Nice design. Well engineered. Now I’ll just pull out my CNC machine (that we all have laying around) and make one for myself. 🤦♂️ Sorry but the title is just a little misleading. Should be called “Making an Amazing Wooden Door Latch (with my CNC machine)” and then people will know this is for entertainment and not education/DIY.
There are always other ways to achieve the same result. It would take longer, but this could be made with hand tools.
The lumber visualization tip was huge. I would have thought that shop was huge. I continue to under estimate the sheer pita a full sheet of plywood can be.
Man, no matter what my barn does with it's life it has never been in a pbs wood working show Ford sponsorship ad. My chest got hairier just saying that.
Hahahah
Mate, thank you you just saved me about 3 hours of work
can you link the holdfasts that you use?
I bought them at Home Depot, I believe they were a 12 inch holdfast, but it looks like they now only sell the 8 inch: www.homedepot.com/p/POWERTEC-8-in-Workbench-Holdfast-Woodworking-Clamps-Set-of-2-71528/313577726

Bro could've just bought wooden dowels. That took longer than the actual hinge repair 😂
I notice your square is a Chappell square, did you train with him?
No, just ordered the square online. The only course I took was at the North House Folk School.
Hou are prize
Nice build.
That Borneman tool is so useful. I have an Aluminum Big Al. We knife the cut lines and I'd be worried about cutting through the plastic one, but yours looks super functional and a nice addition. I recognize your voice from the sketch up timber frame videos, and I thank you for teaching me how to use that program to design my cabin!
You're welcome!
Thanks for stating the minimum milk needed in the frother! All the frothers on the market I’ve seen are around 6 oz minimum so way more than I need for one cup so this is great info!
As you drill especially with a paddle,I have felt the far side with the tip
It’s just the point away and that’s a 1\2”?

I would like to see a copy of plans if I could. I am building something similar on a trailer but am curious in how roof mounted and such.
Send me an email to woodworkssalem@gmail.com and I can send plans. They are short on details about roof attachment, but I just used 2x4s in the plywood notches reinforced with metal hurricane ties.
Hello, may I know where you buy the hose kit? a link will be helpful.

I just ordered the GET75-6N and a hard pad from Amazon for $333.00 after checking out a lot of videos and reviews i have a porter cable 6" random orbit sander that also makes a good polisher. The tool still works good at 3.7 amps but of course no turbo mode plus the pad was falling apart. I decided it was time for what should be a pretty big upgrade. Is that the Veritas work bench I almost bought six or seven years ago for some reason I couldn't get a final price from them so I got the complete Solberg elite 2000 package for just over $2000.00. The way prices have shot up in the past few years I don't say cheap or cheaper I just say cost less lol.
Most overbuilt shed of all time, love it 🤙🏽
Two years in, it's still standing...
engine side... why would you stand with your chest facing the chain ahahaha. silly really and the ergonomics of it work from the engine side.
Looking to do something similar, do you by chance have the file available I can use as a starting point & to learn the software with.
Send me an email to woodworkssalem@gmail.com and I'll send you a file.
@@SalemWoodworks email sent! Thanks!
Nope. This is the 10th video (so far) how to fix the hinge on the door FRAME side. Everyone knows this fix because the frame is a solid piece of wood. Why not show the difficult fix on the actual DOOR side where the door is hollow inside? I've used those plastic drywall screw insets to varying, sometimes lasting, sometimes temporary success but I would like to know a more professional, longer lasting fix for HOLLOW door holes that have no backing to put dowels or toothpicks into. Not solid door frames. That's easy. Please. Where are the real fix-it men?
You lost me. Even hollow doors have a solid wood edge where the screws mount. The door in this video is 160 years old, so is obviously solid wood.
it was painful to watch you use the boxcutter cutting towards your new hose.
I apologize for your suffering.
This is just what I am looking for. Very nice! May I purchase the Vcarve file?
Send email to woodworkssalem@gmail.com. I'm happy to share. No charge.
It's getting heat after few hours working can any one help
Maybe cool to add a couple electric water jets to circulate the water to the furnace area and maybe a a filtration system to help from cleaning all the tub all the time .

Gave you a like because of the pictographs and the cute hat 👒 🐖🪚👀😅
Thanks for sharing all this information. After a few years are you still satisfied with this planer. I'm considering the 0891 and the next step up that has a different helical cutter and steel feed rollers. Thanks
Yes, since the feed roller issue was fixed, it has served me well.

Thanks for a great review. I'm currently looking at getting either the model you have or Grizzly's extreme series which is about $500.00 more. I really like the model you chose because of the weight as well for getting it into my shop, plus the table stays at the same height. Just curious if it is still planing evenly after all the years you have had it and also if it is still easy to raise and lower the cutter head with the top mounted wheel after all of the use you put it through.
It has stood up well to heavy use. Cutterhead still adjusts very easily.
How long does it take you to reach 180 degree?
2 hours.
