Wood Fired Sauna and Cold Plunge in the Goodland Tub
Enjoying the sauna and cold plunge on a snowy late-winter day.
The Goodland wood-fired tub has been a great compliment to our the timber frame sauna. For now, the tub sits on the deck by the house until I get around to building a deck in front of the sauna. We use the tub at least once a week as a wood fired hot tub, but on sauna nights (usually 2-3 times a week) it gets used as a cold plunge. In this video, the tub water temp was 32 degrees... quite invigorating!

Hey.if you put a fire hose tip,how far would it shoot? Anyone try that yet with this unit?
Please i need your work
Nice! Just need the pool boy to get it going & ready for me for after work!
Thanks for video
Thank you for sharing the video. Great looking blind.
1:58 that was clever. Love it
Would rawl plugs work too?
Nice! Exactly answered my question too.
How can I get your design and cut sheet? As a fellow engineer dork, I appreciate the detail. Thanks.
Awesome Video! I actually just purchased the Nippa Stoves manufacturer with a buddy. So cool to come across my feed and see the stoves we now build! Get ahold of me if you’d ever need anything stove related!
Hope they continue to be made here in Michigan.
@@SalemWoodworks they absolutely will be. It’ll stay right there in Beulah MI
Great video thank you
James Gill put me on to you. I married his mom. My "shop" is 8' x 9', so I don't have the room you have but it's nice to see yours and your setup. I'm contemplating changing things around to make mine more effiicient so the idea of using sketch-up is a good one! My projects are usually smaller in size. It's difficult to build 6" window cornices but I manage. Thanks for the videos! You do beautiful work!
Thanks for the kind words.
Quanto custa essa máquina, eu quero.
thank you for this.
Was that a 2” chisel you were using?
Barr timber framing chisel. I have a 1.5" and a 2". I mostly use the 1.5".
@ do you find yourself using a slick much for timber framing?
I have a real fondness for 90s Delta equipment that's when I started woodworking. Still have everything in the shop working perfectly I regret that I never got a shaper because I had no need at the time. would love to have a Delta shaper to go with the collection, i'm not really enthused with the modern day usual brands.
Muze chahiye
What is your inside sauna dimensions?
9' x 7.5'
I would love the build sheets for this

Typical , not reading instructions, You are not meant to hit the tool with the metal part of the hammer, it warns you not to do that, the metal section on the hammer was to give weight behind the rubber part,🤔 I was cringing when I seen you marking the part you were hitting with the metal part of the hammer,
I'm an animal. It's true.
A true craftsman puts their whole heart in all of their work no matter the project! Much respect to your skills & effort! Enjoy your retirement!
Love the dust house for the miter saw!
I'm inquiring how you feel about your Makita 7104L. Likes, dislikes, etc.thank you, Eric
It's a very useful machine if you need to make a lot if mortises. It's worked flawlessly. Dislikes: It's not as fast as the Mafell or Swiss pro machines with chains oriented trasversely. But, it's a lot cheaper than those machines (while still being a big investment).
That is really nice man I hate an awesome job
Exactly what I needed. I have an old house as well and have the same problem, especially with splitting issue. Thank you for posting this video!
I just got my 7104 yesterday and I cant wait to use it

I just bought/set up this planer oct 2024 this is now pre-assembled stock equipment. thanks for documenting your struggle and making the vid series, it helped when choosing a planer.
Beautiful job!!
How long did it take to get hot?
Can you provide the file? I have a cnc
I love this video series, am starting to daydream about building a sauna. Re: other comments, whatever this design lacks in thermal efficiency, etc. it more than accounts for in beauty and the satisfaction of having built it. Who wouldn't prefer to sit every day in this sauna, whatever small drawbacks, than a perfectly efficient, boring box? What a joy and legacy for your family!
Could you just use toothpicks? I don’t have all the tools your showing
Great teacher!
What if the screws fail on the door, and not the wall?
The same technique would work. Even a golf tee or toothpicks wedged into the screw holes might work on the door side. I needed the plugs on my frame because the screws hit on the gap between trim boards (which is unusual).
Excellent work! Much gratitude!
paint ur railin maybe😮
Do you filter the water ? Or need to replace it each time?
We replace at least weekly.
@@SalemWoodworks thanks and how do you get water in the winter? Pipes don’t freeze?
Sorry, maybe I missed it, did you credit Matthias for the idea? It’s a good video, and get to see how it made. Thanks.
I watched a few other videos, but don't recall that this mechanism was specifically inspired by any one maker. I just kind of figured it out as I went along.
How did you lay the plywood out on the roof. I found you plans and cant seem to figure out the layout. I did us ur cut list also
I'm not sure I recall. I may have figured that out on the fly.
Podría regalarme una plantilla
I have a CNC model in Vcarve Pro...
Is your roof decking shiplap or tongue and groove? In the sketchup video it looked as if it were shiplap.
Just butt jointed in the end. I put tar paper on top of that so there would be a black background as garps opened as the boards dried. Since there is a full roof box, insulation, sheathing, ice and water membrane and metal roof above that, the gaps aren't a big deal.
👍👍✌️✌️, I live in Florida. I was thinking in summer could light a fire and take the chill out in a short time.
Hard to imagine a hot tub being very appealing in Florida summer.
Very interesting coz I tend to agree with you, for all the reasons given. There are some videos online that show it being used the other way around though…….
Yup. I emphatically disagree with them, obviously ;-)
