    Maybe the draw bore stuff was more important in the old days before they had ratchet straps to make everything tight? They would have needed more tolerance on the joints so they could get it together and then the pin would help by providing tension within the joint?

      That makes a ton of sense. With the straps and how generally overbuilt this shed is, I'm not too worried. I have used drawboring where tightness is more critical, like with my timber frame sawhorses.

      they did not have ratchet straps, but you can do similar things with rope twisted with a board etc. Though I suspect they just mostly used looser joints and bigger hammers.

    I notice your square is a Chappell square, did you train with him?

      No, just ordered the square online. The only course I took was at the North House Folk School.
