October Garden Tour

While blooms are heading out in the garden here in Wisconsin….there is certainly lots of fall color and texture in the garden. I leave everything up in my garden and prairie with the exception of Hosta, Iris and my Daylillies. And by leaving it up I am leaving up seed heads for the birds, a place for beneficial insects to overwinter and really….a ton of interest in the garden for fall and winte...

Problems in the Garden

Canker is a common disease of pagoda dogwood. This disease can be found throughout most of the eastern half of the United States. Infected branches turn yellow to orange in color and die. Golden canker can kill small twigs, large branches, and the main stem of pagoda dogwood. Golden canker doesn’t kill the roots of the tree. Prune out cankers. Remove and destroy the infected branches.

This was awesome!!
How stunning on each of the 3 client's areas.
Thank you 🙏🏻 ❤
Natural for me ✋🏼 these are all pretty amazing!
Now I know what I want for Christmas. Twigs and things. Jeff
Dawn you work is beautiful. You are very talented. I like that you get right to decorating. I am new to your channel and just subscribed. Could you give me an idea of what you charge to these containers? Our do you sell them as an annual plan planting them up for each season? Blessings, Sue in Southern,DE
Beautiful arrangements!
All are beautiful- favorite was the teal. I love doing winter containers and for several years, my husband and I actually have a Facebook contest and have our friends vote for which one they like best (who designed which container isn’t revealed until most all have voted)!
WOW! All the containers are so beautiful. I especially liked the emerald green arrangement. Thanks for sharing the step by step process. You are such a talented lady and I'm always inspired by you videos.
These look great Dawn! So full and beautiful.❤
Dawn, thanks for introducing me! That was sweet❤. They all look amazing!
This is the first time I have viewed one of your YT videos. Wonderful holiday/winter container. You mention you are zone 5 WI. Where in WI are you located? Thank you.
Happy Holidays Neighbor! I'm from Minnesota and love your designs, Dawn. So festive and eye catching! Do you retain your floral and seasonal stock from the pots to keep in your inventory?
Wow!! How beautiful!! Great color, design and textures creating wonderful curb appeal to all those passing through. Great inspiration!!
Thank you so much! I’m glad you enjoyed!
Thank you Sherry!!❤
Dawn, your designs are just beautiful. Thank you for sharing .❤❤❤👍👍👍
My only concern in using foam or oasis is a good windstorm! Will they blow away???? Soil is much heavier!
I really enjoy your programs. I was home sick from work and just needed some rest. What a bonus to take my mind off the current issues. I am going to try a porch container. For winter. Thanks for inspiring me
Gorgeous containers, and I learned so much from watching you. Many thanks.
Thank you Rosemary 😍
Stunning! Where do you get your supplies?
Thanks Erin. All over the place lol. Local garden centers, hobby lobby, Michael’s etc
Dawn beautiful work how do you go about pricing these containers for your clients?
Thank you 😊 Cost of supplies plus my time.
Very, very pretty👍 I use "oasis" or "wet floral foam bricks" to plant up my window boxes and cast iron urns for winter. I presoak the oasis and then let the rain and snow continue to water the plantings throughout the winter. For me, here in Zone 6a, the displays will stay nice and green from November through March.
Question, were the magnolia branches real or faux? I ask because i used real ones in a similar design and the shrank and crisped up
I so enjoyed watching your process and then the finished containers. The lights in the final containers were perfect!
Thank you so much!!
First time seeing your channel. Wow, your containers are spectacular. Loved seeing the geese, too.
Welcome, so glad you're here! I hope you subscribed!! When the geese fly I know it’s fall!!!
Absolutely beautiful
Very nice job!!
Have you tried spray painting older balls for custom colours? If so how do you get a glossy finish?
Dawn, I love this! Where did you buy your ingredients?
💐Dawn! I have learned so much from your videos and I’m so thrilled you’re still posting them for us! Our hard frost is tonight and I’m frantically saving/ cutting back blooms. But getting excited about winter pot design is such a blessing to look forward to (tomorrow/ the morning of the killing frost will be my bday!) 😅Remembering to breathe, that it will all be back next year and enjoying your inspiration is such a gift! 🎁
Thank you Kristin!! I appreciate your kind words! What a birthday present… killing frost 😮. We are getting 3-5 inches of snow right now! I am really glad I’ve been getting containers done!!
Beautiful
Great video. Thank you for sharing this with us. May I ask what type/thickness of glass you used? I'm in Ottawa, Canada - zone 5a - with winters very similar to Wisconsin. Thank you!
Thank you 🙏🏻We went with 6mm but you can go thicker with double pane!!
I’m in amazement!❤
Thanks for the inspiration!
Did you weatherproof the red berry branches? I am spraying mine this year with a clear coat spray as I found rain washes away the red color and leaves the white foam showing.
I did not spray them. I’ve been using these for years. Still in great shape no fading or washing away!! But good tip Mary!!
@ Ooooo! I asked at Michael’s for waterproof ones but they did not have any. Nice that yours have lasted. It pays to spend a bit more fore something that looks great and lasts for more than one season👍🏻
Very helpful to watch your process and see all the materials you use. I'm inspired to do my concrete trough planter on the deck now!
Yea!!! Thank you so much Leslie!!
Where did you find the faux magnolia leaves, really pretty containers 🎄🤗🇨🇦
Thank you. I found them at Hobby Lobby several years ago!!
They all turned out festive and gorgeous 🌲❣️🌲
Thank you Patty!!
All the containers are just gorgeous!
Thank you Beth!!
Thank you for the video. Great arrangements. I am wondering where you buy your decorative florals ... do you buy from a wholesaler or at a local store? Thank you again. What a great idea for a side hustle ... doing large outdoor arrangements for businesses and homeowners. love it!
This video was so interesting and informative, Dawn. I have come away with many new ideas. Thanks. Look forward to your next video.
Love them all! ❤
Thank you❤😊
Loving your designs. Nice and full and spectacular! Dawn, what is the variety of crabapple behind you at the end of this video? It's beautiful
Thank you so much, Kim! That is Firebird crab. It hangs onto its berries for quite some time and it’s just so gorgeous.!!
Spectacular!
Really pretty Dawn.Thank you for the ideas and also the tips in actual 'planting'.
All three were gorgeous, everything was perfectly balanced and so professional! I love beautiful containers but I'm not very good at it, Thank you for the wonderful inspiration!... Jill
