I think that "can't" would be a strong word, but it's not very common. Once a guy lines up inside of/behind the tackle box, he can't get straight downfield without running through the OL and the defensive front, so he's not going to get the same kind of immediate downfield release that a receiver outside of the tackle box would get. If you want to use him to create a horizontal stretch downfield or something like that, then he's going to be on a different level from the other receivers, and he might not get out cleanly at all if he runs into a blitzer, or an OL gets pushed into his lane by a DL, or a LB grabs onto him as he comes through the box, or whatever, so it's hard to get consistent route distribution and timing for the QB. This is why, when guys go vertical out of the backfield, it'll usually be something that works horizontal at first (like a Wheel), so that he can get out of all of that traffic and get isolated on a LB before turning downfield in a foot race. Some teams do a nice job of cheating one or both of those guys toward more of a Wing alignment, letting them get into the Seam with a minimal outside release. If you do that with a RB, then you're probably tipping run/pass by alignment, but it's up to you whether that matters or not. You can do it with an H-Back as long as most of his run-blocking angles are pretty flat or to the outside, but as you pull him farther up and to the outside you do lose certain blocking angles in the run game, so you might be eliminating certain blocking schemes and tipping run/pass, depending on how your ground game is structured. Of course, you can always align either a RB or an H-Back outside of the OT, commit to being in a 1-back or Empty set, and send those guys downfield in the passing game all you want, so it's not the personnel that can cause problems, it's just alignment/traffic/timing issues that are caused by sending somebody deep straight out of the backfield.

Thanks, but What if the back ran a sort of half angle route to the outside of the tackle as a kind of release then ran there route, this would allow either back to not give up there run possiblity and layer there routes because from the sort of half angle , they could run a flat, a sem, or the original stated angle route, as well as other routes in the route tree. Plus the defense can not tell if the back is helping in pass pro or running a route. The only problems I can think of out of this are if the DE beats the OT or theres a blitz that comes by and some of the routes become longer developing ones

Everyone knows about the struggles at QB and WR, but o-line?! This year’s o’line will be young, but talent at o-line is not an issue.

Deuce Knight could be a Cam Newton college clone. And they’re amping up WR recruiting big time. O Line, RBs, and TE’s should continue to be solid. Marcus runs circles around Kelly in terms of recruiting so there’s no reason they can’t build a more modern offense here

Idk why some people think the talent gap is about to be so big when NDs had three top 10 recruiting classes in a row and aiming for # four. No OC would leave the #1 offense in the country to go to a team without talent. I'm excited to see what Denbrock schemes up for J. Love and J. Price, both RBs with great speed that are also receiving threats. Having a top 5 defense to compliment Denbrock's offense certainly won't hurt either

They already have a better oline so that just narrows it down to finding one of the best QB/WR groups they’ve ever had lol

When I found that 1995 footage I was PUMPED. Those 2001-2003 offenses were historically interesting, too. It's like Kelly was already doing what the next-generation Air Raid coaches have started to do over the last decade, meshing spread rushing principles into an original pass-first offense.

I hoped to see more from the RPO playcalling. Joe Moorhead is a guy who does this TE-heavy RPO stuff really well, and my guess is that Denbrock was inspired by him when he was at Penn State, but Moorehead's a much better technician at scheming those RPO's.

Enforcement of the LOS rules has a lot of gray area. Technically, the rule is that a player is on the LOS if his head breaks the plane of an imaginary line drawn through the snapper's waistline. With the camera positioned at an angle to the OL it's hard to tell exactly where the LT's head is, but by that rule the rest of the OL is farther forward than they need to be, and it's not blatantly obvious no part of the LT's head is even with the Center's waist. They're definitely pulling him as far back as possible, though, to give him an angle to pull across the formation behind the rest of the line.

I'm interested in that kind of thing for sure, I just need to figure out a way to do it that would still have a good shot at drawing in new viewers; it's typically better to make a video about an up-and-coming DC that has success against USC, rather than to make a video about USC struggling (though in this specific case making a video about D'Anton Lynn would probably check both of those boxes and be a good video). My best-performing videos are either about (1) big-time teams that are doing well, or (2) good coordinators that will get hired by big-time programs within a few years. In the next few months, though, I want to start a Patreon page that would put out more frequent, but un-edited, videos on whatever happens to be interesting in football scheme, strategy, and history. For those videos I wouldn't have to worry about pulling large numbers of viewers, since they'd be for people who are already fans of the channel. Studies like you're mentioning would be right at home there!
