There are a number of access points into the Mourne Mountains and Banns Road is an excellent trail that will take you right to the heart of the mountains. The trail concludes on the shores of Lough Shannagh at the foot of Doan in the beautiful Eastern Mournes. Alyn walks the trail and wild camps on Carn overlooking the trail and the lough.

Waterfalling again, this time in Ontario with my cousin Caroline. Really hot day but cool in the shade of some of the massive Maple trees in the surrounding deciduous woods. Sherman falls is a "wedding cake" of frothing water, beautiful and hypnotic, cooling the air in the bowl of rocky cliffs in which it sits.

Planning to walk the Mourne mountains, I realised I hadn't been in the Western Mournes for a while. I always do that. I automatically look at the higher mountains in the Eastern side of the complex and yet the mountains of the west have real beauty. I go walking from Leitrim Lodge to Pierce's Castle. I cross the bog and climb to camp on Eagle Mountain. A truly satisfying camp.
