I don't see where anyone answered your question about what word Spike used that made Buffy's subsequent behavior in response to the history of the attempted rape seem frivolous, but if you were curious I think the word was "skittish".
Just got all caught up on your Buffy reactions, I’m enjoying them! Looking forward to finishing out the show with you 😊
Haha my goodness, you are STILL not tired? That's amazing :D I've been there, with doing things I'm interested in, and it gets so late :)
It is great how wired you are with watching many of these in a row :D
I don’t know how far ahead you are in the episodes now but I thing you got a couple things mixed up. Buffy does the “slayer quest” that is supposed to give her more power (as robin said) so they do what they did with the first slayer: they chain her to the earth and try to infuse (😂) her with the power of the demon, but she doesn’t like her power to come from darkness and she doesnt stand for the way they’re doing it, forcing her to take it. They say she’s the last slayer indeed cause it’s implied that she cannot beat the first. After she refuse, they show her the vision of hellmouth with all the uber vamps.
I also love s7. I actually rewatch it the most of any season. About the power of the demon... There is a rape metaphor there. She doesnt want to be demon raped and left less human because a bunch of guys who enslaved and forced the first Slayer to go through that decided that was the best option...as you said, she does things her own way. She left the council's way a long time ago. I read they chopped that tree down. It was really old. Super sad.
Your mistake in starting to watch the wrong episode is actually kind of spooky. The original UK box sets (which I still have) - the part one box set had the wrong episode on it - it had episode 12 instead of episode 11. So the second box set had episode 11 and 12 on it, so you could watch in the right order. You just started to do the same thing, with the same episodes. So spooky coincidence.
Stand out episode is next it's so much fun and unique .. I know you seen it already it was great.
I agree definitely an amazing scene at the end!
Robin Hood is a figure of legend that may be somewhat based in truth, but probably wasn't one single person. Hood was just an old word for thief. There were possibly quite a few outlaws that took the name and maybe some of those were disposed to distributing their stolen wealth amongst the poor. I was born in Nottingham so I have a big soft spot for the legend. 🙂 Commented before I finished listening to your commentary so just came back to say that the mage/shaman that put his hand on Buffy's face did that to transfer the vision of the hoards waiting in the hellmouth. I think it also looked very tender as if he was sorry for what was to come.
In Get It Done we again have the build up to the final battle with the house now teaming with potentials. We have Kennedy going around around like Sergeant Hartman from Full Metal Jacket, trying to be overly aggressive to the potentials in training. When Buffy allows Principal Wood back to the house we see the first confrontation with Spike. A shocking scene when they come across Chloe who has now hanged herself after being influenced by The First Evil, it seems The First can strike at any time and they seem powerless to stop infiltrating the house. A striking speech by Buffy where Spike gets upset about her saying he was a better fighter without a soul. She tunes on Anya in particular saying 'why are you even here'. The Slayers bag that Wood gave Buffy comes into play here, and we see them open a portal and Buffy on the other side of it. Kennedy again being Uber irritating again when talking to Spike, how we wish it was Oz or Tara there instead. Great scene when Spike gets the leather coat back on, and Wood says 'where did you get it' Spike says 'New York'. Spike shows his power by killing the demon. When Buffy tells Willow of the vision the ancient men showed her, a great transition to the massive army of the Turok-Han. Buffy now knows they need more power.
There are some annoying aspects to this season, but there are some very wonderful things about this season, too. The more I watch it, the more I appreciate it.
It is confusing even for someone who watched it without doing a reaction to it the first time. But at least this show explains things. It doesn't leave you hanging forever.
❤🧡💛💚💙💜🤎🖤🤍
A lot of people are around this point in reaction videos of late. I feel I've watched reactions for this episode and the episodes around it a lot recently. Many characters tell Buffy she's out of line when she speaks to the group post SIT suicide, but she not doing anything different than what Giles did in the last episode, _First Date._ The group needed to hear it. The Scoobies spent too long making jokes out of every situation and thinking Buffy is in the wrong for what they don't like and many are green after issues of last season, so aren't on an emotional playing field different than the SIT's. Buffy needed to say this, to get the points across. The DVD audio commentary for _Wild at Heart_ has Joss asking another writer what TTFN means. After hearing that exchange and watching this episode, I never thought it was a coincidence, but perhaps it was. I don't know. The power of the slayer is demon, but Buffy is human. Its a small, but very important distinction to Buffy not actually being part demon, as some assume. The shadow demon the men wanted to add to that what was already there would have taken away her humanity and Buffy wasn't willing to do that.
Mr. Clarke found the torn piece of El's hospital gown by the pipe where she escaped Hawkins lab. if you go back to 1x01 the first shot we see of El the camera pans up from her feet and we see her hospital gown is ripped at the bottom.🙂
This movie wasn't as bad as people make it sound. Rutger Hauer and Paul Ruebens Aka Pee wee Herman and Luke Perry and Donald Sutherland are no longer with us. Kristy Swanson plàys in a lot of movies. Big Daddy as Vanessa. She must like older men. Just kidding. Hillary Swank is one of Buffy's horrible friends. The principal you might recognize. Also David Arquette. And Ben Aflect makes an appearance on here. Had trouble seeing the movie.
@@NoahSmith-r7u TBH, I didn't think it was that bad either. 🙂
I recently saw your season 6 episode 22 / finale and wanted to make at least one comment but the comments were turned off :) OMG that is SUCH a cool idea with that heart rate monitor! I actually never saw any other reactors do that, and I follow about 18+ reactors haha.
@@sathvamp1 Haha. I forgot to place it so that you could see it during the whole reaction. 🤦 FWIW, I only used it that night, which actually turned out to be 4 reactions. It wasn't my idea, I'd seen someone else do it before. 😁
@@jaypeakay5864 Ah haha in that case, at least one other reactor does it :)
Jay, I hope you have a great time watching this. For me, it kind of has a feeling of movies from the 80's like Goonies and E.T., but also some of the scary movies, which I did not watch when I was young. Also, it brings back memories of growing up in the 80's, like the Rubik's cubes, clothes, interior design, and Millennium Falcon toy. It's pretty cool that they made the whole town and cars look like it was in the 80's. I think, almost every time they have a song on the radio, the song existed by that year. They filmed this is a town near Atlanta in the hills. Indiana tends to be more farms and less hills.
@@jameshenner5831 Agreed. I think I mentioned E.T in the next reaction. Definitely a Goonies vibe too. 👍
You should watch with the subtitles on so you dont miss any of the dialogue.
@@jonathanpowell7256 I wish I could do that effectively. I tried it during another reaction and I was reacting to the subs before the lines were being delivered. I was missing visual things too. 🤦
Super 8 (2011) was written/directed by JJ Abrams although Stephen Speilberg did produce it. The 5th and final season will come out sometime next year. The actor you know from Ghosbusters was also in IT Chapter One. This was actually the first TV project Winona Ryder had done other than guest starring in an episode of Friends. She's in the new movie Beetlejuice Beetlejuice alongside Wednesday's Jenna Ortega. The 'Alien' was in the shed with Will, we see it rise up behind him. It's why he turned around and looked surprised.
@@jonathanpowell7256 It was in there with him? I didn't see a thing. Haha. That's right, it was JJ Abrams! I remember now. I'd totally forgotten Winona Ryder was in Friends. 🤦
This show starts out with a few mysteries, but it's called Stranger Things and not Totally Normal Things for a reason. Enjoy.
The US Department of Energy had its origins during WWII: its earlier incarnation was the agency that ran the Manhattan Project, the R&D program that created the first atomic bomb. Although it does also handle some innocuous stuff like a few things having to do with our oil reserves, it's nonetheless an agency with a somewhat misleading name, sounding a bit more harmless and innocent than it really is. Weapons research is a big part of what they do. There are a lot of urban legends and conspiracy theories about black budget government projects that might be going on secretly under the purview of the DOE. None of this is precisely spoiler material, but I imagine that knowledge of what the US Department of Energy does (and the sort of thing that it's often rumored to get up to) is _considerably_ more obscure in the UK than it is here in the US, so I just thought I'd help you out a little with that cultural context.
I love all your theories. This show is tough to predict. Just strap in and enjoy!
Your timing is great. I just visited my best friend in Virginia and we watched Stranger Things while I was there. I think you will enjoy it. 😄 It’s an interesting show. As far as I know, Stranger Things gave Winona Ryder a big comeback. She wasn’t in much, at least to my knowledge, in the years leading up to this show. So happy she is active again. I always loved her. She is a firm fixture of my high school and college years. The vibe of this show is great. Bit of Alien, bit of ET, bit of Goonies and the lust goes on. Makes the show so much fun!
Good series, good reaction, good man! 🙌😄
I’ve been watching Teen Wolf for a bit now. I’m in Season 2 at the moment. Great choice of series. As far as I know, Lacrosse isn’t a hugely popular sport in the USA. Not sure why so many movies feature it. Maybe the rich private schools play it more, but I wouldn’t know about that. 😂
You'll understand in time. It's a great ride. Enjoy!
Jay, there is another excellent version of this series you might want to check out; Anne of Green Gables released in 1985 starring Megan Follows and perhaps considered the 'original'. It is a more "Pablum" version (Pablum is a baby food that is palatable and easily digestible), but, while having a lighter tone, is very well produced and regarded as a Canadian classic. I'd suggest leaving a little space between the two shows so the different tones don't contrast too greatly, but I think you'll appreciate both. I'm really enjoying your reactions.
Cool. I might look into that at some point. I wasn't even aware that it was a book until I read the description. I'll have to read it once I finish this.
I am with you with the magic thing- with magic, rules of nature just don't apply so things actually can get quite boring to me... I think: "Well of course they can bypass this or that challenge"- so it's like I am bored since there are no real natural challenges. Now, on the OTHER hand, REAL actual challenges can be totally amazing to see someone overcome. FOR EXAMPLE: The below is a UA-cam video of one of my favorite documentaries featuring a TRUE story of Steve Callahan, who was shipwrecked and ended up figuring out how to "do the impossible" just to get food, etc. (my favorite part starts at 18:18 in the below video): ua-cam.com/video/uUyt_iW9dVk/v-deo.html You can also usually find his story yourself (sometimes specific videos get taken down) if you do a UA-cam search of the phrase "76 days adrift".
This is definitely the most badass I've seen Giles :D
Definitely a gruesome episode!
Ok, ANYONE tell me the answer to this: At 22:35 - is that "Deja-Vu" at Six Flags Magic Mountain (???). AND at 23:03, is that Psyclone??
10 minutes: Oh gosh that flash forward! And... wow I just realized that must mean that you'd watched that episode before editing this one! Interesting! EDIT: Ok now I remember that flash forward clip was from the SAME episode. What a great memory I have [sarcasm].
0:30 - You want to see Giles's reaction? I can't wait to see a certain future episode haha.
So many shocking things in this episode :)
Just like you, both me and my mom were like "NO- that can't be the real reality!"
Nice reaction 😁
I'm so glad you liked this. I really adore this show. I know I did a lot of nagging to get you on board. It really comes into its own in seasons 2 and 3, but I quite like season 1. It just takes time to find its feet and for the full cast to gel. Scott and Stiles are the only ones that gel right from the start. Takes a bit for Allison, Lydia, and Jackson to feel a part of things. I like the coach, even if he is kind of brash and mean. I thought he might be the werewolf, too. I felt that way through the whole series and into the movie. I won't say if I was right. I think Lydia likes the boy who is on top of the totem pole. Right now, Scott has kind of displaced Jackson as the better lacrosse player. She's pretty shallow in the first season and appearance is everything. Having the right boyfriend to stay on top with is too important That's kind of her mindset. But there is Allison so she kind of does it while Allison is looking away.
I think Wood buried Jonathan just because he didn't want to deal with the complications of a body being found in the school.
Thanks lovely reaction, can't wait for you to get your answers in later episodes. My favorite series, Scotts friend is Stiles.
There's a very important line here that you are missing, which is okay, because almost everybody does. Buffy says, "Why does everyone think I am still in love with Spike?" Still in love, meaning she was in love with him. She's admitting that here for the first time even though she couldn't admit it then. It's my opinion that if she hadn't been in love with him, she would have worded that differently. She would have said something like why did they all think she was still into Spike or had the hots for Spike. I think that Buffy is struggling with her former feelings and that she did love Spike before everything went to hell last season. She hated herself for it, but she did, and look where it got her. He attacked her. But Spike with a soul has been a different experience and she is letting her guard back down, learning to trust him, and letting him in again. She's not ready for him to not be there because she isn't over him and thinks there is a possibility of building something real now. She's just not ready for it yet or still scared of it. PTSD doesn't go away overnight, no matter what your heart is telling you. Hence the principal. That is what I see in this episode, but then I am a Spuffy shipper and I feel they belong together, so I am going to see things through that lens and that was where I was at this point when I watched it originally. These thoughts have nothing to do with what is to come. I am very careful not to spoil.
OMG. You're right! I so didn't notice she'd said 'still.' That's fantastic. I only wish I'd noticed it now. ☹
She said she won't get into trouble if you confess that's why Anne made up this fake story
Yeah, that makes sense. I was more confused as to why it had to be such an 'elaborate' story, instead of just saying that she must've lost it somewhere in the house. I'm still not sure why she didn't go to look around the chair where she left the shawl. I guess she felt under pressure, and she's young, right? Bless her. ☹
22:24 I never notice until now. Principal Wood looked at Spike in the mirror, but you can't see a vampire's reflection. Either a mistake when shooting or really well written.
He looked but didn't see.
In Fool for Love, it was explicitly stated that the New York slayer was killed in 1977. This episode aired in 2003 (28 years later). Four year old Robin would have been born in 1973, and D.B. Woodside was born in 1969. He was a mere four years older than his character was supposed to be when this aired.
The subway scene was the 70s. If Wood was 4 in the mid 70s, that put him as older than me, and I was about 27 when this first aired.
The subtle "Ménage à trois...." you snuck in there...😂🤫
First Date, I think this wasn't a particularly great episode, but entertaining nevertheless. As we have been led to believe we know there is more to Principal Wood, and of course he has an arsenal of knives and swords in a cupboard in the school as you would. When Buffy does go on the date with Wood, we see him in Jackie Chan/Jet Li mode as a martial arts master! We know as well that Xander seemed to get the date too easy with what Anya called the 'hardware whore', both Spike and Anya experiencing jealousy here. When Wood does come clean to Buffy he mentions his mother was a Slayer, and his mother's Watcher raised him. The part Ashanti played was written specially for her as she was a huge fan of the show, and as with Xander's previous experience with women we know that eventually she will be some sort of demon, as Willow said back in Something in S4 Blue to Xander 'you're a real demon magnet'. The First trying to work through Jonathan to Andrew is interesting, however as foolish and cowardly as he is, he seems to be doing the right thing this time. Funny when Willow gets the coded text from Xander trying to decode it. Spike appearing at the restaurant is funny playing gooseberry, but then we see Xander getting stabbed by Lissa/Ashanti. When they turn up to free Xander after the fight and Lissa is defeated, we see Buffy go to Spike, and we see Wood's face. Giles getting fed up of all the comedy is telling, and very telling scene when Buffy says to Spike she wants him to stay. Great final scene with Wood and his mother as The First Evil and telling him Spike killed her. A really good reveal here, that of course we always suspected leading to some great following episodes on that particular theme.
@@killianlpc The Robin and Spike storyline is one of my favourites of the whole show. Wait, Ashanti was already famous by this point? When I was told it was her, I'd assumed it was before her music career.
Its your reaction. Going back is your decision, whether your viewers like it or not. Giles is throwing a lot of _you should be doing things the way I would_ attitude at Buffy after telling her she's the general of this group's army, and after walking away when saying, "I've taught you all you need to know." If he doesn't like Buffy's decisions, perhaps walking away while Buffy was in the middle of depression with only a soulless Spike, a too young to talk to sister, and the people who brought her back from heaven wasn't a good idea. Despite that, I agree with Giles telling off the group for the casual-ness of dating in a time of war (different from apocalyses). He should understand, though, he has had 40+ years at being an adult. Technically this is the Scoobies first year at it, with two to three prior years of them straddling the line between childhood and adulthood. In all fairness to Buffy, she was undercover trying to find out if the principal was evil or not, which she did learn. She officially recruited another soldier against The First. We'll see whether or not Wood is willing to let bygons be bygones with Spike or play into The First's plan of trying to kill Spike and deplete the army's numbers, for why else would The First, as Wood's mom, be so willing to share that information. Spike is getting harder for The First to use under Buffy's protection. And technically, it was a good thing Buffy and Principal Wood's date wasn't official, because he's her boss. That creates a bad power dynamic of a dating life Buffy would have or should have learned from in terms of her underage-ness dating Angel. Very slight _Conversations with Dead People_ reference with Buffy (and Anya) thinking Dawn's pizza sauce is blood, as she knew Buffy would think. The Normies are the only reaction viewers I've ever seen recognize Ashanti. It was a big deal when she was on at the time, but people don't seem to know her any more. I personally never listened to her music, and only recognize her based on how big of said deal advertising made it. The lady with the dog couldn't handle the mystical world and therefore was only a guest star for the second episode of the season. Xander stated he knew she wouldn't call as she ran away.
@@Buffy8Fan OMG, you're so right about them only just becoming adults. They've been through so much that it's easy to forget that. 😲 I actually do remember Ashanti. I didn't recognize her. 🤦 FWIW, I can't skip back because of the way I do full reactions. I've explained it fully in another reply. It sucks TBH, but it was a choice between having the ability to pause or having the ability to offer full reactions; as frustrating as it is, I choose the full reactions.
Well you gotta start watching more reactors! I remember at least 5 or 6 more reactors that also recognized Ashanti.
@@dantesummers4048 I really want to put the laughing emoji down at I need to watch more reaction. There are days I watch up to twenty new reactions just for The Buffyverse. Missing, forgetting, or not seeing some doesn't mean they weren't there or I didn't see them. The comment was about the _in the moment of writing it_ of whether or not I could remember. Especially as I watch so many reaction videos.
@@dantesummers4048 LOL Buffy8Fan is one of a handful of reactors I have seen pop up on just about every Buffy reactor I watch...
@@Buffy8Fan hey, have you spotted a fairly new reactor, Mia Davies? She's only got like 48 subscribers, just started watching Buffy. 😁
