I also love s7. I actually rewatch it the most of any season.
About the power of the demon... There is a rape metaphor there. She doesnt want to be demon raped and left less human because a bunch of guys who enslaved and forced the first Slayer to go through that decided that was the best option...as you said, she does things her own way. She left the council's way a long time ago.
I read they chopped that tree down. It was really old. Super sad.

I don’t know how far ahead you are in the episodes now but I thing you got a couple things mixed up. Buffy does the “slayer quest” that is supposed to give her more power (as robin said) so they do what they did with the first slayer: they chain her to the earth and try to infuse (😂) her with the power of the demon, but she doesn’t like her power to come from darkness and she doesnt stand for the way they’re doing it, forcing her to take it. They say she’s the last slayer indeed cause it’s implied that she cannot beat the first. After she refuse, they show her the vision of hellmouth with all the uber vamps.

In Get It Done we again have the build up to the final battle with the house now teaming with potentials. We have Kennedy going around around like Sergeant Hartman from Full Metal Jacket, trying to be overly aggressive to the potentials in training. When Buffy allows Principal Wood back to the house we see the first confrontation with Spike. A shocking scene when they come across Chloe who has now hanged herself after being influenced by The First Evil, it seems The First can strike at any time and they seem powerless to stop infiltrating the house. A striking speech by Buffy where Spike gets upset about her saying he was a better fighter without a soul. She tunes on Anya in particular saying 'why are you even here'. The Slayers bag that Wood gave Buffy comes into play here, and we see them open a portal and Buffy on the other side of it. Kennedy again being Uber irritating again when talking to Spike, how we wish it was Oz or Tara there instead. Great scene when Spike gets the leather coat back on, and Wood says 'where did you get it' Spike says 'New York'. Spike shows his power by killing the demon. When Buffy tells Willow of the vision the ancient men showed her, a great transition to the massive army of the Turok-Han. Buffy now knows they need more power.

Robin Hood is a figure of legend that may be somewhat based in truth, but probably wasn't one single person. Hood was just an old word for thief. There were possibly quite a few outlaws that took the name and maybe some of those were disposed to distributing their stolen wealth amongst the poor. I was born in Nottingham so I have a big soft spot for the legend. 🙂
Commented before I finished listening to your commentary so just came back to say that the mage/shaman that put his hand on Buffy's face did that to transfer the vision of the hoards waiting in the hellmouth. I think it also looked very tender as if he was sorry for what was to come.

A lot of people are around this point in reaction videos of late. I feel I've watched reactions for this episode and the episodes around it a lot recently.
Many characters tell Buffy she's out of line when she speaks to the group post SIT suicide, but she not doing anything different than what Giles did in the last episode, _First Date._ The group needed to hear it. The Scoobies spent too long making jokes out of every situation and thinking Buffy is in the wrong for what they don't like and many are green after issues of last season, so aren't on an emotional playing field different than the SIT's. Buffy needed to say this, to get the points across.
The DVD audio commentary for _Wild at Heart_ has Joss asking another writer what TTFN means. After hearing that exchange and watching this episode, I never thought it was a coincidence, but perhaps it was. I don't know.
The power of the slayer is demon, but Buffy is human. Its a small, but very important distinction to Buffy not actually being part demon, as some assume. The shadow demon the men wanted to add to that what was already there would have taken away her humanity and Buffy wasn't willing to do that.

There are some annoying aspects to this season, but there are some very wonderful things about this season, too. The more I watch it, the more I appreciate it.
