Wonderful reflections on Piranesi! This book definitely evoked so much wonder and childlike curiosity in me. Interesting what you said about it feeling a little clinical at the beginning. I was actually worried this would go a more intellectual route about three quarters in, and then the end really brought me into my heart. You described the reading experience and premise so well! Amazing the feeling this very short book leaves you with. I need more books like this in my life! ❤️

I guess we're a couple of phalluses then, because I thought Piranesi was truly a wonderful experience--reading, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually--as well. I wound up reading Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell in the latter half of 2021, over the course of a couple of months, and it, too, blew me away but for totally different reasons; it's amazing that Susanna Clarke has such command and control over her storytelling and executes it all beautifully, in my opinion.

The Liveship Traders is my favourite trilogy of Robin Hobb's, it's great fun and action-packed. Becky Chambers is great too, as is the Terry Pratchett's guards books. You have some real treats coming up! I've been eyeing up The Priory of the Orange Tree mainly because of how beautiful the cover is on the hardcopy. Naomi Novik has a super fun dragon series called Temeraire if you want more dragons in your life, also The Earthsea Cycle by Le Guin is one of the great fantasy masterpieces and has dragons.

Oh yes, Evan Winter is on my TBR! I'm not 100% if I'll read it in the near future. I've heard it's quite brutal/dark...? I may need to get a few more epic fantasy read under my belt before I start this one. 🤔😁

So nice to hear about your recent reading! I too find myself saying things to myself I would never in a million say to others. I love Jordan Peterson's advice to "Treat yourself like a friend you really like." Oh. My. Goodness. I can't tell you how excited I am that you'll be reading Daughter of the Forest!!! It's become an all time favorite of mine. It was such an immersive reading experience.

Thanks, Kate! Oh I love that quote, I'll be using this as a mantra ❤️ Oh you've read Daughter of the Forest! I listened to the Audiobook and the woman has the most beautiful ethereal Irish accent, absolutely stunning, so I might mix reading and listening. I look forward to sharing thoughts on it!

I LOVE Jemisin, but I was a bit disappointed by the city we became. Your commentary has got me interested in a reread - it might just be the kind of book that I need to reread to appreciate what she created more! I felt "fernweh" too - a strange feeling!

Yes I watched your review as soon as I finished broken earth and so knew your thoughts so I may have gone into it with a lowered expectation 😂 I think I was surprised with the genre and also how different City We Became was to Broken Earth so I enjoyed that aspect. The story was definitely more linear than broken earth, though... and didn't have time to decide whether I liked the characters or not! It was a thrilling ride for me nevertheless. It would be interesting to see if your view changes after a re-read!

Oh wow! I listened to a few episodes of the The One You Feed a couple of years ago! He has some great guests on that podcast. The method you described in that book sounds like Family Systems therapy. My husband, who is a counselor, has some training in Family Systems. I also know someone who swears by it! I'm on your reading trail! I'm reading Guards! Guards! in May and starting Farseer next month. I'm curious to hear more of your thoughts on I Had Your Face. I didn't know plastic surgery was so prominent in Korean culture. It's interesting in general how different cultures have different aesthetics. I remember my opera friend who lived in Germany talked about how American headshots were always over-glamorized. German headshots tend to be more raw and real. I don't know if it's still that way, but it's interesting to examine that. Best wishes with continuing the Realm of the Elderlings and everything else on your TBR!

Yes how great is that podcast? Yes that's the method he mentions - internal family systems. I would love to delve more into this practice. Yes the concept of beauty according to various cultures fascinates me. Plastic surgery is like getting your braces in Sth Korea, and they are obsessed with white/pale skin... The whiter you are the more beautiful. And here in Australia white people go to tanning salons to be as brown as possible! 🤣 Grass always greener I guess. I can't wait to hear your thoughts on Robin Hobb as well as Guards Guards!

I loved this video. I don't think I've seen you so at ease in front of the camera. You really brought what you were saying to life! I hope your daughter does the buddy read with you, I loved reading books with my children, I have such fond memories of that. Honestly, hands down your best video, there was something really real about it. No doubt in my mind that your channel will grow. 🌿💚🌺😊💞

Thank you for your lovely words! I had no success with Harry Potter for my daughter so fingers crossed she likes Austen!

A city being personified does sound really great--I would expect a lot of absurdist elements found in the story, as I have no clue how this would work haha. And yes, Barb and Amrita are great at discussing some heavier subjects not mentioned as often on BookTube. I too would highly recommend those channels! And glad to hear you are going to try some science fiction! Hoe you like it! 😊😊

Quite true... How do you depict a personified city, if not absurdly?! 😂 Yes we have a great network of booktubers who are opening up the dialogue about mental health 😊 I will let you know how I go with sci-fi, I predict I'm going to enjoy it!

I loved the Broken Earth trilogy, and I was so happy to hear your thoughts on reading it. I had similar reactions to and experiences in reading the books: it was so impactful from character, story, and thematic perspectives. The narrative structure and the execution of plot blew my mind, especially on the first book. After reading the Dreamblood duology, N. K. Jemisin has become one of my favorite authors as one who I completely trust in sharing whatever story she writes. I can’t wait to read more by her!

Thanks, Evie. Great to hear your thoughts on Jemisin. I really look forward to reading Dreamblood. Inheritance trilogy will be next for me. I feel like you hit nail on the head when you say a trust has been built. I feel the same, I know whenever I enter a Jemisin book, I trust that I am in good hands and I will go on a cathartic, mind blowing, satisfying reading journey!
