Walking the Clarendon Way with wild camp
congratulations on completing the big ridgeway route.
@@willsmith7475 Thank you!
very inspiring, clever route to get out when the weather was good and use a campsite near a beautiful river where it would be hard to wild camp because of private land and carefully protected fishing beats.
@@willsmith7475 Indeed the whole Test tends to be protected and private. Was fun to patch together a local route.
Very peaceful video 👍 it brought me calmness 🔔
@@Vyrij_Music Thank you. That's how nature makes me feel.
You capture beautifuly world around! 👍
A beautiful morning to set off on your hike Catherine, wonderful light and colour as Autumn kicks in!👍👍
@@anthonypayne1 looking forward to autumn for exactly these reasons.
Always a treat to watch one of your films. Artfully shot. The vapour trails from the train at sunrise - such colours.
@@ChrisAtkinson-d5c Glad you enjoyed. A lovely day from sunrise onwards.
Beautifully done, thanks for sharing that! 😊
@@olliesear1151 Thanks. A beautiful day to be out.
Lovely, as always. X
@@mikekelly5229 Thank you Mike. Just a short one on familiar ground.
Great video my friend, thanks for sharing. Have a nice week!
@@naturemyeyes Thank you!
Most beautiful, you even made the city sound peaceful, enjoyed the scenery, the rolling hills 👍
@@NatureInspiredSnipsnSnaps Thanks. The downs are lovely, even though relatively low.
Wonderful shot atmospheric video, it reminds me of the things I like when out walking a Trail . Wonderful well done .
@@owenmorse3136 Thank you. Basically just walking about looking at views, but also a lovely hike.
@@owenmorse3136 Glad you enjoyed this video.
That was so beautiful, a walking diary full of joy and calm, thank you. I am enthused to walk it again
@@mickunderhill2755 Glad you found this and enjoyed it. A beautiful path to follow.
That was all pretty epic, thanks for sharing. I've done a fair bit of route planning from ordnance survey myself in my local area (Ceredigion). I was surprised by how many of them actually turned out to be memorable walks, although there have also been the odd ones where we've come unstuck and have to turn back or go a different way. Usually, in my experience, this is from hostile landowners blocking the way: barbed wire, chains and padlocks, trtees cut down and left blocking the way, and overgrown brambles etc. Good to have some secateurs with you! Thanks for sharing another lovely walk. The music was pretty good too!
@@adrianhyde Glad you enjoyed. Found similar things in Dorset. To be fair, helpful farmers balanced out unhelpful ones and the bridleway that ended in someone's back garden was apparently supposed to end there and they didn't mind. Makes for an interesting walk as you say.
@@catherinewalks1207 Yes, the memorable ones I speak of were where we found the access to be better than we had hoped. I would recommend Bing maps if you don't use it, because they have an OS layer that you can zoom in and out to the different map scales and switch to satellite view to compare with recent photos. A computer is best for ths, on an Android phone you can't get the OS layer unless you switch the browser to 'Desktop site.' Look forward to seeing you on another one before long.
Lovely filmed walk you had through a lovely part of our country, do you have any back up . My own expenses of paths and byways have been the same as yours people buy land and cut off access through and you have to look at the map and work a way around it , but I would say most is still available, the Kent and East & West Sussex are still some of the best walking areas in the country.
@@owenmorse3136 Thanks for your reply. Kent and Sussex are beautiful as you say.
Beautiful scenery all the way Catherine! Even the rainy, blustery section! Look forward to what you do next👍👍
@@anthonypayne1 The blustery bit was the most fun in a way! Glad you enjoyed.
This hike looks and feels just amazing my friend! Gorgeous work 🥾🥾
@@ervinslens Really glad you enjoyed.
Lovely and varied walk - and even a “Bull In Field”!
Appreciated. Question - would a bull be in the same field as cows with calves, and should one go in and find out?
The Bull could be there so keep clear of the animals and don't try to touch and don't wear any Red it could activate the bull Bull .
Really enjoyed that, great camera work too.
Thank you - 'filming against the wind' at times.
Hello Catherin, it has been many years since I walked in southern England. over fifty in fact but farmers always plowed over footpaths and councils spent the ratepayers' money on better things than public access. In this respect, nothing has changed. Be that as it may, I thoroughly enjoy your rambles through timeless scenery that I remember so well.
@@stevensad38 Glad you enjoyed. Sounds like there’s always been similar issues. I met some helpful and friendly farmers along the way so swings and roundabouts to be fair.
hello.. just watched. glad you're back 👍. lovely content.. well shot too. ☺️. detours and re routes can be fun. i find.. as long as you get there safe all's good . thanks for the video. 👍
@@markcocklin9735 Thanks. A good positive attitude helps, definitely.
Great to see you out again Catherine, beautifully filmed as per.Yeah, I see what you mean about some of the paths! Lol👍👍
@@anthonypayne1 Nice to hear from you Anthony. Bit of a worry how some rights of way seem to be falling into disuse.
Thanks for yet another beautiful video; What breed of shelter, single-skin possibly?😃
Thanks. Yes, a Lanshan tent - very light, bit prone to condensation.
The lovely music only enhances the beautifully filmed scenery. The building in the middle of the farm field appears to be a WWII pillbox, but it seems like an odd place to put one.
Thank you. Yes, WW2 pillar boxes - actually 3 in a row. Covering the Salisbury railway line maybe?
Beautifully framed and really lovely to see you out, thank you. X
Thank you. It's been a while!
Hi CatherineWalks 😀 A lovely little video to watch 😀 Thank you 😀
Thank you. Just a wander without much of a plan this time.
Beautiful video. The Clarendon is one of my favourite walks. Right through where I grew up. Thank you for sharing your walk.
Thank you, glad you liked it.
What a lovely video. So peaceful! Thank you for sharing.
Many thanks.
I must have missed this video, how brave and interesting to spend a night in a bivvy in the UK woods. It would have been interesting to know the gear that you thought was suitable for this situation and that it worked for you.
It was quite a challenge. Got down to below freezing and in the end I wrapped my tarp groundsheet right around me for that extra layer of protection and trapped air. After that I was cosy. As always the wonderful wake up in the early dawn makes it all worth while.
@@catherinewalks1207 This last winter I tried out for the first time a "Mountain Warehouse" Bivvy Bag with a Mont 3-season bag on part of the Te Araroa Trail in Canterbury NZ. With a small emergency tarp I was quite comfortable even though waking to a thick frost on the ground. (Rakia River to Lake Heron section")
Your walk lacked any detail as to where you were along the trail. I am not sure how you got from Whitchurch to the Wayfarers Walk? I did the Wayfarers Walk from Kintbury to Bastingstoke back on 05/06/2021 using a folding e-bike. Jubilee Line to Paddington. GWR to Kintbury. From there to Inkpen Beacon 5.6 miles. From Walbury Hill to Dummer 24.6 miles. From there to Basingstoke station 6 miles. Roughly 36+ miles. It was a beautiful sunny day and the ground was firm under foot. Assuming you walked from Walbury Hill to Kintbury station, then 18.1 - 5.6 miles = 12.5 miles from Whitchurch to Walbury Hill? Apparently from the A34(T) at Litchfield to Inkpen Beacon = 15.4 miles according some website that their listed times and distances. Anyway, covering 18.1 miles along often muddy terrain is some achievement. The rainbows were magical.
There was a map at the end in the edit i saw
@@willsmith7475 Thanks Will, can't remember whether I stayed to the end or not. Captions would have been useful throughout the video. Looks like Catherine joined WW at Lower Woodcott Down.
Wonderful day to be out Catherine, stunning vistas and that rainbow, wow! 👍👍
The best moment!
Hi Catherine, Nice, very relaxing. Be interested to know how you get the map footage at the end. Thx
It was a lovely day to be walking. I found an app called MapOut which shades the contours and has a colour scheme I like. I just take screen shots of the relevant area and use an Apple Pencil to mark in my route.
Once again a lovely video Catherine, you do manage to capture the essence of the late winter, early spring countryside. Thank you so much from an expat from the other side of the world.
One of those perfect early spring days. Glad you enjoyed watching.
Some fair ways you fared, thanks for sharing.
A beautiful clouds day; I love those.
Glad to see you again Catherine, lovely as always. Thank you.
Thanks Mike. Just a local one, but impressive weather.
wow that was beautiful and inspiring, thank you for sharing the beauty.
A great day for a hike Catherine, and as always a pleasure to watch👍👍
The one sunny day amidst the grey down here in the south. Glad you enjoyed.
Catherine, pure bliss and nostalgia I just love it. I knew it well over 50 years ago.
It is a beautiful path isn't it, and a pleasure to arrive in Selborne at the end of the walk.
Thank you for sharing a short burst of what looked like a very lovely day. Always a pleasure to watch and the warm glow always continues after the video finishes. Take care.
Thank you. The best weather for what feels like a long time.
Said this before but you frame things beautifully. A lovely story told with no words neccessary Flask preparation within the dawning hours, setting the scene for the day ahead. What did you get from Greggs?
A jammy heart biscuit. Thank you for the lovely comment.
Lovely again Catherine. I look forward to your videos, keep posting, you have a knack for these things.X
Thanks. They always seem to come out so short!
❤
Great walk, looking forward to doing the same this autumn. Can you supply/ send the campsites you stayed on, I’m told that camping might be difficult on the trail and you look to have found some great places to stay. Thanks
Glad you enjoyed. I broke my phone tripod on the 1st day so feel this vid is a bit overly hand-held, but never mind. I found all these campsites online, and they were: Hyden Farm (had hoped for the Sustainability Centre but left it too late to book). Manor Farm campsite, Cocking Foxleigh Barn campsite, Amberly White House campsite, Steyning Housedean Farm campsite (was lucky, they have a short season) Alfriston Camping Park, Alfriston These were all on or near the path and none cost more than £18. Hope that's helpful.
Many thank for the information. Can't wait to get started now. Best regards. @@catherinewalks1207

Absolutely stunning! Congratulations Catherine beautifully done it makes me feel so nostalgic and the only missing thing for me is a shot of the river steaming on a frosty morning.
Really glad it brought back good memories. Yes, the rivers are beautiful in the morning mist at the moment - must plan a walk in that direction.
Thank you for another lovely, meditative video. Does anyone ever grow tired of the sound of walking through dry autumn leaves? Surely a delight for children of all ages!
It's impossible not to walk through autumn leaves like that. Glad you liked the video.
So good, thank you. X

Not far from home but in some lovely woods.
A wonderful time to be out, stunning colours and light👍👍
