    As said, be kind to yourself. There is a time for power, volume and rest. All are important, and part of the process. I took a 2 week rest from a solid year of training. It was the one of the best decision I made so far this year.

    You lose some high end aerobic fitness after 1 week. For 2 weeks you just need to gradually wake up the body system, don't over do it to damage the muscle and probably next week or two you will be back to normal.

    I rarely change my weight on Zwift. I tend to fluctuate from a few pounds over to a few pounds under my zwift weight. I race in class C. If I was racing in class A I might be more diligent about keeping my weight exactly right.

    • @notpogi
      @notpogi 8 днів тому

      What’s the thinking behind being more diligent in updating it if you were category A? It’s definitely an interesting talking point, I think Zwift need to do a better job in clarifying because at the moment it’s relies on people’s good will 👍🏻

      @@notpogi My rational was that catagory A riders are probably taking it a little more seriously in regards to the racing. I race because it's fun and it makes me work harder than I would in a regular ride. I kind of expect most riders in the lower divisions are not that diligent about registering an exact weight.

    Best of luck in the training. That finish is fast and really is high paced going in. Ladder races are apparently a lot of fun, and from what I am told tactically a little more like outside. I am sure your sprint will return. Cheers!

    3.36w/kg is the limit for Cat C. You threw down that number, or more, on your 20mins... you exceeded the race category. That doesn't necessarily mean that at that time your 20 mins power average was over 3.36

    Enjoyed the assessment! I agree with the others here. Your top end fitness will come back very quickly, so NOTHING to worry about. You know I saw this yesterday and starting from about 1.4mi to go I was just thinking "noooooo too much wind! Nooooo don't attack from the front! Nooooo!" 😄. You'll be fine! Keep training hard, recover harder (that's where the gains come about), and keep at it. You're doing well 👍

      @notpogi yeah for sure! I enjoy talking about training and racing etc. I'm glad it was helpful to you in some way! You're not in a bad spot by any means, but if this kind of "flatness" continues, you'd have to look at the overall macro and micro view of your training and see if there is something you need to tweak because feeling flat for a short period of time is normal, but feeling flat for multiple weeks on end is usually not a good sign haha. Just wanted to throw that in there! It'll be cool to see you keep progressing!

    Nice man!! Doing this as the final to a stage race is nuts. I did this as just a one off around Christmas and honestly it was one of the best races I've ever had. Really probably the most realistic of the type of racing I tend to do IRL. Good effort!

    • @notpogi
      @notpogi 14 днів тому

    Of all the feelings on the bike, fresh but flat is my least favorite. You are suffering from the plasma volume you’ve lost from detraining. It takes 48-72 hours to return once you recommence training. You’ll feel like you are a different man.

    Summer 2023, I took a month off racing, just did zone 2/3. I had no sprint for months. My endurance fitness was there, but lost that pop/vo2 max kind of the effort. You've gotta race at least once a week to keep the chops fresh.

    I think this one was less about fitness and more about race execution and using your matches and power at the right time. You had your nose in the wind fighting against a 20+ person peloton that could just rest behind you while sustaining the same speed. And, then when you needed power in the final 400-600m, your legs were dead from that huge block of red. The right play was to sit in the bunch and use the benefit of draft to keep it at high green / low yellow power effort and then uncork that red power at the end to sprint through the field. That's what these flat races are about - trying to break early usually means you've become someone else's lead out man.

    • @notpogi
      @notpogi 14 днів тому

      Hi mate, yes I agree - the race execution was pretty dire, in the end it was a pretty pointless attack! I don’t know why I want to try and win every race that way it seems as it rarely works. I liked your take on what I should have done, I’ll remember this for the next race 👍🏻

  • @DF-cc5im

      Yes good shout 👍🏻 - Kosta planned in some zone 2 and an FTP test but it was my fault that I didn’t end up doing that. I think mentally I need a new goal coming into the next part of the year, FRR was super tough but I really enjoyed it 👍🏻

      @notpogi 14 днів тому

  • @RoyImahara
    @RoyImahara 14 днів тому

    I think your assessment is spot on. The attack could have been better, but you should have just kept going. Falling back and going for the field sprint at that point failed because you were gassed already. Easy for me to say though. I did the exact same thing and got smoked in the final sprint. LOL

Plus, let's be honest, climbs are great on TV, but king of boring in real life anyway ... right :)! Anyway, great video and a nice set of tips, especially those regarding what to do when you are caught between heaven and hell. The only tips I might add that worked for me is 1) try 1st person mode at the beginning of a race especially and especially if you are new! I kept making the mistake of thinking I was closer than I really was. 2) Sauce for Zwift is nice for the Draft meter and least for noobs and folks new to steering. I forget to turn it on half the time now, but it was really useful for me to understand just how many watts I was saving (or not) by being at certain places at certain times. When I first got into cycling, and I came from the tri or running worlds, I thought that I could just "out pace" my competition, but cycling for the most part ain't like that at all!

      Thanks mate, absolutely love this comment 😀 I really like your additional tips - I’ve been wanting to give the 1st person view a try for a while now! I’d like to try sauce also as the extra info it provides would be super useful! 👍🏻

    Brilliant ride - so glad your cramp held off until the Alpe was behind you! I notice 3 of the top 4 were under 200W - so well done for mixing it with the tiny riders! What’s it like to be on the bike for so long? I’ve never been over 2h indoors.

      @notpogi 22 дні тому

      Thanks mate! Nice of you to say 👍🏻 I was so pleased the cramp didn’t set in until after the Alpe but it was a bit of an own goal lol 😂 I was so nervous before the ride started because of how bad it went last time. I was more comfortable this time because my setup / saddle was better, I wouldn’t like to ride that long on the bike all the time but it was nice as a challenge! The fuelling was super important and I was buzzing after I finished - give it a go mate 😀

    Sub 60 up the Alpe on stage 8 is an absolute heroic performance. Great finish in spite your cramps and congrats on moving up in GC.

      Thanks mate! You did absolutely amazing completing that last stage 👍🏻👏🏻 It took me a while to recover afterwards though! How did you find the tour?

    • @SteakandChains
      @SteakandChains 23 дні тому

      @ focusing on sprinting while also trying to improve my performance throughout the tour made it a lot harder than I could have imagined. I felt good till the Alpe. After that my legs just couldn’t hold more than 200ish watts. I’ll definitely be ready for more torture down the road.

    Spent most of this stage with your name sake C Moore , I put time into him up the Alpe (we didn't do it as fast as you ) but he pulled it all back as I died on the flats after the Alpe as after resting downhill my legs refused to work . I did managed to gap him right at the end but he won the war by beating me by 10 mins on GC , But riding with someone roughly at the same level made the stage almost bearable

    • @notpogi
      @notpogi 24 дні тому

      Sounds like you had a great little friendly battle throughout! I found it funny that Chris and I both finished 31st overall, it must be a Moore thing 😂 Great work on finishing that stage, I really enjoyed the tour, how did you find it? For me it was one of the best, I really liked the course choice. I’m still undecided on eGap, I like the concept but I think it’d be interesting to have a tour without it 👍🏻

      @@notpogi I was 36th , enjoyed the tour on the whole was in the right cat so I was competitive which helps ,but did think for us lower cats stage 8 is a bit too brutal but it is FRR , Don't really get get Egap

    Kudos mate, that course is no joke. Very impressive, and sub 60 on the alpe too ? amazing stuff. I did the power to the tower race and that was hard enough, don't think I could ever do a course like this!

    • @notpogi
      @notpogi 24 дні тому

      Thanks mate, kind of you to say 👍🏻 Power to the Tower is also a very difficult course, if you were ok on that then you’d be fine on this course I think 😄 It’s a long time on the bike, I think we were all a bit nervous beforehand but it was such a great feeling crossing the line 👍🏻
