    When I get dropped (which is quite regularly lol) I set myself a different goal during the race. Just like you Ollie I pivot to trying to beat the rest of the field. It may suck but at least you know your fitness is still improving as you still get a hell of a workout. Great video.

      Thanks Paul, kind of you to say mate 👍🏻 You’re exactly right - even though we may be near the back the fitness is still improving and we’re having fun! It’s such a funny/awful feeling just before dropping knowing it’s going to happen! 😂

    Good video. And good to share that you can ride a nice race without competing for the win. Hopefully all the sandbaggers see your video and have the same attitude as you have. Keep up the good work!

      Thanks mate, appreciate that 👍🏻 Exactly, I’d rather test myself against a stronger field as hopefully my fitness will improve as a result 😀 As long as we’re all having fun that’s the main thing 👍🏻

    This was a really tough race. All that we saw followed the same pattern, a few dropped on the entrance to the elevated roads and then split to pieces on the New York KOM. We even tried using the little downhill before the KOM to get over the 15% first for some slipping room but still couldn’t stick with the front as they closed the gap and passed us.

      It’s such a tough climb, I was just happy to stay with the first group for as long as I did! I just don’t have the power yet to be competitive in these races.. funny how most of these races do follow the same pattern 👍🏻

    KOM looked so brutal - Always something to salvage from getting dropped keep it up!

      I was a bit gutted I didn’t have that last 4 minutes in me but it was a brutal climb! Good little mini race afterwards, got to stay positive 👍🏻

    Nice race! Honestly, you’re doing amazing for B1.
    I got dropped on that first climb 😭. Would love to hear what intervals / workouts you choose to work on 5 minute power.
    I’ve basically got the same numbers and 4.1 - 4.2 5 minute won’t cut it in B 😂. 4.4 or 4.5 even would be much better!
    Thanks for posting, love seeing ZRL races in your mix they are so fun and unique.

      Thanks Andy that’s really kind of you to say mate 👍🏻 I’ll post my workout sessions on my Zwift club page, be good if you wanted to join in on a session with me 😀 I can’t believe the power needed in B, it’s another level but if we keep at it I think we’ll get there! 👍🏻

    Typically when I get dropped I’ve got nothing left. It’s hard to continue

      Sounds like you’re really giving everything mate! Always something to play for even if it’s a bit of recovery then pushing on again 👍🏻

    That was a tough race. Key was to save energy (as much as one could anyway) for the KOM. I think perhaps you went a bit too hard on the first push at 3.3km? But good effort up the KOM regardless..that is a tough climb....and it is good practice (but darn hard) to stay positive when you get dropped (trust me I know the feeling!!!). For me in this race I did everything right...apart from the last 500m...where I acted like a Zwift noob...live and learn.

    • @notpogi
      @notpogi  День тому

      Thanks Sam 👍🏻 Good analysis mate, I was scared of dropping early which was probably the reason I went a little harder early on - I should have saved some more! I’ll have a look at your vid shortly mate, sounds like a great race and a bit unlucky at the end 😆

      @@notpogi The key is or course not to loose the front group...and that could easily have happened on that first bump..so it is a fine line between going too hard but staying in the front or saving energy by holding back a bit but possibly loosing the front...choices choices... and the NY KOM on tired legs is..uh..not fun. Actually not fun on fresh legs either now that I think about it :) - but keep plugging away mate...keep in mind you have taken a HUGE step up from Cat C to Div B1 in ZRL...second time for me in this div..and I am still trying to get use to the pace...you got some heavy hitters in that division for sure....

      Yea seemed a bit too scared to get dropped there, you were probably one of the fastest in the bunch on every small kicker costing valuable punch :/

    I rode so many B races like that- I just never had the power to survive significant climbs. I much prefer racing score events which seem to feature more conservative riding and more meaningful sprints at the finish as every position counts. Great ride though- huge normalised power! 💪

    • @notpogi
      @notpogi  День тому

      Thanks mate, super kind of you to say 👍🏻 I’m looking forward to the ZRL using racing score, at least then those riders that are consistently at the top will hopefully be able to test themselves in higher category too! That climb was so tough mate, I had nothing else left there!

    another great Video. I'm getting shelled every race at the moment! I noticed your cadence is late 70's - is that something you replicate on the road and is it something you have worked on. Mine is much higher.

    Hey man do you choose an aero or a climbing setup for this sort of course?

    • @notpogi
      @notpogi  11 годин тому

      Hi mate, I went with the Tron which is a great all rounder mainly because I needed a bit of extra help up the climbs. I was toying between the Tron and the Pinarello 2024 with the DT Swiss disc wheels as my other option. If you’re stronger on the climbs I’d go with the most aero bike you have in the garage, the s works Venge is also another decent option 👍🏻

    whats is your max HR - i cant reach higher than 176. On the other hand my relaxed HR is 38 and i have 55 Vo2 max.... do you have similar numbers?

    • @notpogi
      @notpogi  День тому

      My max HR is around 186 but I rarely hit that anymore - 182 is about normal when I’m having a decent sprint. My resting HR is about 48-53 so very similar 👍🏻 My Garmin app says my VO2 max is 58-60, again very close to yours!

    • @Zylas_DJ
      @Zylas_DJ День тому +1

      @@notpogi maybe i cant hit my max HR on the indoor trainer.... im struggling to target my Zone 2 from that - 110 feels like nothing...
      Would you suggest to calculate the Zone 2 from Power? My current FTP is around 260W

    • @notpogi
      @notpogi  День тому

      I normally calculate my z2 based on power rather than HR, 180-200 watts usually does it for me which is about 2.4 wkg. Depending on fatigue and time of the day my hr is between 120-130.
