I'm a stay at home dad for another 18 months. I clean up pee, pick up the same toys 4 or 5 times a day, and cook dinners no one eats. It doesn't pay much and the hours suck. If you subscribe to my channel, youtube might pay me for the ads they put in front of my videos.

This was really enter. Your voice is really good to listen to and i really enjoyed the solemn way you read it. Looking forward to listen to the next part
Ever since Day called Tolkien fans, that disagreed with his 'creative liberates', the "Tolkien Taliban" I've written him off. Says alot too when the Tolkien Estate came out and said they dont endorse anything Day does either. His books are good display pieces for art work but anything he writes shouldn't be taken seriously
You forgot to mention they engage in political censorship
Love Ravenloft 2e, my favorite setting by far. Thanks for this video, I enjoy people giving a little love to 2E & Ravenloft.
But what if we're thinking in 3 dimensions and we raise the cube or the sphere 5 feet above the ground? 10 feet? Can we reorient and change the axis of the cube so that only one of its corners touches a particular 5x5 area?
I play AD&D right now, have 2 groups and use my Combat wheel all of the time
I have the Dragon Magazine it was published in and I can give you details on how it works if you want
First saw the edition mentioned in a UA-cam video that discussed Howard and his works. Bought the book on Amazon and it was just delivered on Sunday last. Got it from Amazon for $68.00...big book, 925 pages, well bound hardcover.
68? I just got it for £24 off amazon. You got scammed
There are no Sprague de Camp stories in the volume. Most of the content de Camp produced were based on fragments and outlines which ARE included. These are "Drums of Tombalku," "Wolves Beyond the Border" and "Snout in the Dark," all three noted to be "drafts." "The Hall of the Dead" is listed as a "synopsis" (just over one page), and "The Hand of Nergal" which is a two page "fragment." Lin Carter wrote a story based on "Hand of Nergal." de Camp wrote a novella based on the "Hall of the Dead" synopsis. "Snout in the Dark" was turned into a novella by de Camp and Lin Carter working together, "Wolves Beyond the Border" was written up by de Camp but Conan is only mentioned in Howard's draft; two other characters, Gault and Hakon are the principal characters. The Complete Chronicles of Conan edition only has the Howard text, not the products produced by de Camp and Carter.
Is not available on POD anymore :c
How is the quality of the Print On Demand copy of the Rules Cyclopedia?
It's great. Buy it. I did a video review of it on my channel. I'd give you the link but I'm lazy.
Avoid David Day's book at all costs. Day is a charlatan. His books are full of stuff he has made up and professes to be a "Tolkien scholar" - he is no such thing. The man's attitude has even got him banned from the Tolkien Society.
Sad and annoying is UA-cam constantly recommending videos from several years ago :) Yes I like the Rules Cyclopedia. I wish UA-cam would suggest videos that were made recently.
I still watch MASH. That show is way older than several years ago...
Those covers aren’t embossed. They are debossed.
Dangit.
These are gorgeous! Can't wait to try them out!
Thanks for making this video. With the original boxed sets going for astronomical rates these DriveThruRPG hardcovers are the only reasonable options out there.
Own these and consider them one of my best role-playing purchases ever. They are now my go to for Ravenloft lore and inowledge.
again great work. and your music is great. relaxing stroll through the review. nice brah
Fantastic video. Super helpful as we are currently looking at publishers for our RPG and these are great tips. Drive thru seems pretty great and as a book/game developer i am feeling like having access to pod flexiblity and to the network of lovers of RPGS is huge. thanks Stephen. Love your vibe on the videos. cheers
Thanks for this, just got the monstrous manual, awaiting the DMs Guide.
Thanks for sharing
I'm loving this channel! The reviews are great
Thanks for the video! Very clear, good picture quality, and nice flip-through
Drivethrurpg are amazing... IMO amazing for everyone be it users, publishers and even more so small creators :-) even if you just want PDFs its great! they also have other websites for Wargames and other stuff like cards and so on. I just ordered "sacrifice an incense & iron rpg" the other day I have the PDFs but want the the hardcopies. Its a really cool OSR type game, very dark and Bezerk like setting. Built in solo rules and for parties of people as well. Can easily be adapted for any setting just plugin what you want and add extra roll chats or pre done "monsters" from other settings and you should be good to go.
As someone who was always fond of AD&D's 2e base world and Call of Cthulhu 1920s, Ravenloft was a match made in heaven. I never got to play or DM a actual ravenloft scenario but I did go through the two goldbox DOX games and the world they protrayed, though primitive, was amazing.
Looks great! Much better than I expected. Even if the pages start falling out, I'd just put them in a binder at that point.
wish they sold hard covers again.... i have my copies from 1995, and i'd love a new set of copies. The soft covers look decent though.
These actually look pretty awesome! Any idea about import fees? I have been looking to buy some of these oldschool RPG books, but they are generally pretty expensive due to import fees. Print on demand would be amazing (although many of the books I want are not available as print on demand unfortunately).
They use 3rd party printers. I'd assume they'd contract a printer closer to where you are.
i 3D print my tiles....but i like the paint-style-theme you did......looks really cool!
Very nice!!! Takes me back to a better time. One of my favourites was the Desert of Desolation series. Will be ordering that. Thanks for the great video.
Day's work is superficial, inaccurate fluff that add absolutely nothing to our understanding of the lore. Save your money.
Too late.
@@DnDnBeer I had a few of these until I started reading through them. That's when I discovered that Day is basically regurgitating other people's work and adding his own, unresearched material.
Yep I came here to see the inside and it looks upsetting
Yep. No Tolkien fan should buy this.
I want to buy this box set of the David day Tolkien books but it looks like he’s re-releasing them all in November and adding a 7th book to the volume (which is already out as a standalone now). Can’t find a reason as to why they have been slightly redesigned. Also I looked up the dimensions, and the new ones will be smaller and colours won’t be as vibrant. They are slightly more dulled. But the preorder price for the set of 7 is basically the same as the current more vibrant 6 volume edition. Could you take a look at the new box set coming and tell me what you think? Should I buy the current, 6 volume, more colourful edition now, which I can easily buy the 7th standalone volume for (but it won’t fit in the box set), or should I preorder the new edition coming in November that houses all 7 volumes but will be slightly smaller and the colours are dulled? I don’t see why he didn’t keep them the same and just release a new box to fit all 7. Thanks. Edit: when talking about colour, I’m referring to the cover only. The current covers are more vibrant and the new ones coming are more dulled. I think the vibrant yellow red and green look much better as opposed to the dulled ones coming out.
Hi, do you mean the pages inside won't be as vibrant, or the covers?
You should talk through the outline of the adventure while you are just thumbing over pages.
I definitely noticed that this thing is a little rough to open. It would have been nice if the latches had just a bit more give.
50$ damn that's an amazing price found it in local shop for like 150$ :/
I found a very interesting twist that Nezznar is a member of House Xorlarrin and is wanting to use the forge to help his house reclaim their lost city of Q'Xorlarrin that was taken by the Dwarves. For those who dont know, they are a drow house known for their wizards and that the men of the house have the privilege of being near equal to females (within their house they are even able to have intense debates with priestesses and even openly disagree with the matriarch herself and not be punished). They still have a matriarch who is in charge but have a more council, some would dare say democratic base of rule. A city run by this house would be a HUGE step forward for male drow and driders, a fact of which not even Gromph Baenre could not deny, and dwarves snatching that away because they have some special claim to the city due to it being some long lost ancestral city that they abandoned is be unforgivable, mainly to those groups that would have benifited from the city and especially to a male drow of House Xorlarrin like Nezznar. So he does not mindlessly seek the forge on the orders of his matriarch, he actively wants to reclaim the forge and use it as an instrument to reclaim his houses taken city - to reclaim his houses social standing among his people - to reclaim things no afforded to him anywhere else in Lothite society.
I just order all three AD&D books. I suspect my grandbaby will help me inspect the goods once they arrive. I can't wait
Thanks for the content! As a DM and player dealing with toxic players I found this honest, interesting and useful.
I really enjoyed this book too. I remember the first time I read it, I had gotten so used to reading books that just weren't all that well written, and so I found reading Elfshadow to feel 'clunky'. It wasn't until I was quite far into the book that I realised it wasn't that the writing was clunky, it was that it was well-written and deserved to be read with full attention and there was a lot being conveyed with the words. It wasn't that it was poorly written, it was that I was reading it poorly, from being so used to poorly written books.
Did they fix the Dwarf stat block?
Are you from Ohio? Toledo Public Library has huge Sales every few months. Probable where that book came from... very nice
That video was filmed in Boise, Idaho.
Thank you very much for these videos
I got The ElfShadow book I read 📚 it and it's great. 😀👍
SILMARILLION 😍😍😍
The lord of the rings 😍😍😍
I got the trilogy set with the illustrations just so I don't have to have a giant hardcover bible when I read these small stories haha. What font size would you say they use...because mine are awful like 12 fnt sz small. Looking at this video the font looks much larger...almost about 15 or so?
Hi, often PoD tells if it's a scan or the original PDF that is printed. As you can see with those 2 books, the quality if high because they have the original pdf file and not a scan. You can see the information on drivethrurpg (ie: This is a scanned image print title). BTW, Your video convinced me to buy night below PoD. I played that adventure in the '90. I was nostalgic.
I went to check on drivethrurpg. And it's 'Format: Original electronic'. I had those 4 original books and 2-3 years ago I decided to sell on ebay my collection of books that I would never read/play with and invest that money in board games. Now, I wonder if you too quick and if I should have kep Castley Greyhawk and Demonweb...
I just got Expedition to Undermountain in the mail yesterday.
@@DnDnBeer That PoD is really bad for our wallet! It's a nice hobby to collect D&D books. Throught the POD I also discover other designers work: Low Fantasy Gaming (5e), Hero's Journey rpg, Behind The Wall rpg, and many others (Gunderholfden dungeon). A few years ago, I started to buy greyhawk, planescape books... After 2-3y, I realised that I will never play them nor had an interest in reading them. I kept a few and got rid of a bunch (2500$ in sales on ebay). Now, I buy mostly books that I read. I may have to go back and buy those expedition books... I went through my list and I think they are the only book that I regret selling!
btw, you seem to have a nice ravenloft collection. You could do a 'buyer' guide to ravenloft 2e/5e! What to get and why. I would love to watch that.
This is tge best book to get to play 1e. It pretty much has everything from the original rulebooks. I do suggest the hollow world boxed set if you can find one.
Cool books
Thank you
