I've had mine for a year, it's a working copy and held together well. I've even traveled with it several times. I dig the art too. I got to meet Tony DiTerlizzi once at college. He even takes time to look at people's portfolios, he's a kind and super nice guy.
Thanks for making this video. With the original boxed sets going for astronomical rates these DriveThruRPG hardcovers are the only reasonable options out there.
Thanks for the review. I really wish they'd push the printing away from the spine. I've got a few books like this and I find it hard to read close to the spine or see art that bleeds into it. I'd almost rather they full-bleed to the edges and give the margin internally.
If you send them an email they usually contact the publisher (WotC). The publisher has in the past corrected the issue. They're still working out the bugs. It seems we are the test subjects.
I got introduced to Planescape as late as 2012 by playing the excellent Planescape: Torment but I want to buy this book to get setting information for enjoyment and possibly running a Planescape game on Castles & Crusades one day. The only issue I have with the pods is that they do not have an inner margin.( near the spine) and thus maps can become unusable. ( since you can't see sections). Thus you may not see a door an entrance , a wall, or even an entire small roomor passage.All of this could have been avoided. Unfortunately all of my PODs are like that. I don't mind the maps being in the book but not like that..
As I understand it, it's the publisher that puts these pdfs together. In this case WotC. If you contact DTRPG with an issue, they contact the publisher, who (hopefully) fixes it. Seth Skorkowski did a review of I6 Ravenloft. He complained that the center of the maps were buried in the binding. By the time I got my copy the issue had been fixed. I got Volo's Guide to Waterdeep and the map was missing. I sent an email to DTRPG and they contacted WotC. A few weeks later they sent a new copy (free of charge) with the map in the back. The bugs are still being worked out of the whole print on demand thing, but the books I'm getting now are much better than the books I was getting a few years ago.
Are all of the PODs still like that? I've got a few softcover AD&D books I want to order (namely Modron March, Dead Gods and Inner Planes) but I'll be disappointed if the text runs into the margin and becomes difficult to read.
@@DnDnBeer cheers, will try.the purchase I did was 2 years ago ( worth over 900 usd I think it was.) I don't want to create complications for them. However i will ask if they are willing to give me a symbolic discount for the next big purchase. ( that would be fair). I think
Ready for the 5E version? I am prepared for them dumbing it down painfully, but they have to do something right...maybe making the Infinite Staircase part of the main book? Including 40 pages of the Faction War? Hmmm....

One thing to note, since you recorded it a year ago- DTRPG did change their production quality at some point within the last year or two, but I forget when it was, and it was to a lower quality. How much lower I'm not sure, but the book you get now is probably not the same as the one you got a year ago.
I recently got the Van Richten's Encyclopedias of Darklords & Domains (watch for my video review, maybe Monday). The quailty of the hardbacks were consistent with that of my Planescape copy. They're still using the same printer, as far as I know. I know they pulled the Planescape title shortly after I bought mine (I bought it 1st day it was available), which suggests there was something wrong with the pdf. They put it back up a week or so later, so whatever it was got fixed.
I really like the art style they used for this book. Very different from the other campaign books.

Looks great! Much better than I expected. Even if the pages start falling out, I'd just put them in a binder at that point.

I have the original box set from back in the day all the books are soft covers and still hold from years of misuse and joy lol

its cool but i have a hard time justifying giving money to people who hate me and hate these original works.
