    I use charge mode exclusively to heat the ICE. This removes the moisture and gasoline in the oil with the crankcase ventilation

    Can I significantly charge in charge mode and then run ac on EV mode when I have to wait in parking lot for 15-20 minutes etc?

      @MarkCeeee  14 днів тому +1

      @@UA-camuseritis You can significantly charge while driving in Charge mode up to 80%, depending on driving time. A/C and waiting for 15 mins shouldn’t drain too much. Just know you are burning gas to achieve the charge.

      @@MarkCeeee yes I understand that. Ideally I will try to charge it but I live in apartment and don’t have access to charging and Prius prime does not support fast DC charging unfortunately.
      If I have to sit in car and take office call I would ideally want no engine noise but I guess there may be traffic noise etc that could be a problem. I guess the other question would be that on 80 percent charge can one spend 2-3 hours in car on AC without turning engine on?

      @@UA-camuseritis Most likely engine will come on at some point with AC operation though depends on ambient temperature. Car will charge twice as fast on 220v charging, but is not capable of supercharging. Is there a standard 110 outlet you could plug in with your car charging cable?

    • @Youtubeuseritis
      @Youtubeuseritis 14 днів тому

      @@MarkCeeee unfortunately I don’t have access to 120 volt either. 240v is AC charging I believe while super charger is DC charging. By the way at least one plugin hybrid (Mitsubishi outlander) does support fast DC charging but not on CCS as it uses CHADMO standard.

      @@UA-camuseritis Maybe you can locate a free public charging area and plug-in there before you do your calls. I use a standard 110v outlet at home and charge overnight. There are no conveniently available public chargers at work, though I do access several at local parks when I visit on occasion. What about using a noise canceling headset when you are on a call? Engine noise isn’t that bad in the new Prius compared to earlier generations. It would probably come on and quickly shutoff as you would be using hybrid engine battery. In the Toyota app you can find local charging stations wherever you are.

    Will this use more gas than typical Hybrid mode does?

    • @MarkCeeee

      Probably a bit more, but I was able to charge up to 80%.

      @@MarkCeeee I'm not sure why Toyota added this feature on the Prime. Why is it there. When the traction battery fades the Synergy System will take over and that provides plenty of milage boosting electricity as you drive along. The first, and only, time we ran out the Traction battery on a highway we saw over 60mpg in Hybrid Mode. That's far more economical than having the engine run above the RPM's required with "normal" hybrid mode just to recharge the T battery. I don't understand why one would need to do this. It seems wasteful. One poster on this site (who is obviously not technically aware), wrote complaining about only getting 38mpg from his new Prime on a long highway trip. After some back and forth between us it turned out he was driving in Charge Mode. I engaged the Charge Mode once, but only to see how well it charges, and, it does work well for sure. But I'll never use it again. Our hydro cost is at least 3.75 times less per Km/Mile than gasoline.
      Way back you were doubtful when I mentioned we could reach 80Km on a charge. To achieve that range you have to eliminate as many resistive electrical loads as possible, granted. Yesterday I took my two 90+ year old in-laws to two appointments around town. At 16c ambient temperature and starting with 100% charge, by the end of the day the car had gone 88Km(55m), and there was 8% charge remaining. The day included two 6Km runs at highway speed and, all driving was slightly above posted limits. Impressive. I drove my wife to work this morning and when starting the car the Trip Computer stated an estimated 91Km EV range.
      To date; 4,887Km on the clock and we have purchased 1/2 tank of gas after the dealer's gas disappeared, and some of that is still with us. This car is a masterpiece.

    Any idea the rate it charges the battery in this mode? Just curious how long it would take to charge that way vs level 1 and 2

    • @MarkCeeee
      @MarkCeeee  4 місяці тому +1

      Probably similar to a Level 2, I added about 20% in about an hour and half of driving
