FLIP Fluids Addon 1.8.1 Update 🌊
In this latest update (v1.8.1), we're excited to announce compatibility with Blender 4.2! This release primarily focuses on bug fixes and minor improvements. Notably, we now fully support Blender 4.2's new Extension System. To ensure a smooth update process, please uninstall any older versions of our addon before upgrading to avoid potential errors.
While this is a smaller update, we're laying the groundwork for future enhancements, including a sneak peek of the upcoming Compositing Panel (not available in this release).

how can I delete a flip fluid? It keeps coming back.
Using an outflow or by disabling boundary collision helps to remove fluid. Use reset to delete the cache.
@FLIPFluids of course. It's the mesh that wouldn't delete. So I deleted, then disabled flipfluids, saved quit, and restarted. That did it.

No- you would need to remake. You can always send a blend file and we try to helpt with setting up the scene

Because i work at TVC studios. We often getting demands from client to make "beautiful" Crown milk splash, we only depend on houdini now. it needs to be beauty so we need more control of it. But i want to do it in blender with flip fluids. I need tutorial about it.
There are some tricks like using sheeting and surface tension. But there we also be some limitations about control. You could send an email to us to ask for an example blend file. We will prepare something for you!

everything is working, except when i go to render i get a lot of flickering. this only happens with the whitewater foam visible in the render. any ideas? im using the default FF materials for everything
Did you try CMD based rendering? Perhaps that will solve render issues. If not, please use our support form to provide us with more details.

@@FLIPFluids so i tried the cmd rendering, which is a nice feature, but i noticed the issue coming from the whitewater_foam particles. if i turn them off, no flickering, or if i enable particle instancing, the flickering goes away, but the renders are way slower

Hey raj! That’s planned. But this should work as easy as possible for all users. That’s why actually a set of compositing tools is in development. And it will be finished soon! The ocean tutorial could be produced in the next year ;)
my fluid is still passing though my obstacle, ive enabled the debug and also increased my resolution, although i am a beginner, what i am doing is very simple. ive spent hours on trying to fix this problem. i just want my obstacle to contain the liquid and add simple rotation animations. ive searched everywhere for a fix but nothing works and i cannot increase the thickness of my object or it will no longer look how it needs to.,
Hey there could be different reasons: 1. did you check for non-manifold data? your obstacle needs to be watertight. 2. is your object patented or using complex animation data? In this case you would need to use „export animated mesh“. 3. Is the resolution high enaugh to work with thin objects? You can also use our support form or discord to send your blend file and we check it for you.

That’s correct! But you will be able to upgrade at a special price at a later moment ;)

i couldn't export fluid surface to alembic (no whitewater used , just a simple animation with 100 for resolution).. i have blender 4.2 with flipfluids 1.8.1... i wrote my issue on github and rlguy said it doesnt work on 4.2... and here ur saying its compatible with 4.2... so im lost here.

as a person who has been using software their entire life, I know good shit when I see it, and FLIP fluids is it. It's not just the output, it's the UI and UX and decisions around so much of it. So few companies actually produce software that is designed to work well for people who can use software. Honestly, it's some of the best software I've ever used, and could be a case study in UI and UX.

what !? baking time is 5.2h !!!!! oh my
Question: when setting up a Flip Fluids 'Domain' with a 'Fluid' box in it to act as an ocean and an 'Obstacle' (a boat). I animate the boat and render at 65 - It works I render the same scene at 150, and the 'Fluid' ocean has now shifted way up over the boar "Obstacle', I then must re-locate the Obstacle and render again. But have to move the Obstacle at each new render setting How do you fix this issue?

For those who can't (don't understand) why nothing works (including RTX 4090+). 0) Use small cube like Suzanne 1) First of all, check the Resolution! By default, it is 950 (this is too much even for powerful hardware, set it to 200, or even better, 100 for testing). 2) In the min/max droplet settings - set the scale to 0.05 and 0.08 (for example, i.e. a value closer to 1 (big particles), because the default settings are very high). 3) droplet rate set it to 20, not 5000 (small amount). 4) And now you can click Bake. Try with these parameters, then you will understand which way to turn to get the best result.

I run the bake and then nothing happens after it finishes. No mesh, no particles, nothing works.
It sounds like to need a higher Resolution for simulating the small drops. If nothing helps please share your blend file with us. We can then check what’s going wrong.
@@FLIPFluids finally figured that out, now when I render with motion blur it crashes as soon as I hit render image or animation

@@FLIPFluids seems rendering my animation out with CPU instead of my gpu has fixed all of my issues…. From random frames where all of the geometry and particles vanish, to the motion blur going whack, to crashes after crash… this plugin does not work well with GPU rendering at all. But seems just fine with the CPU
@@FLIPFluids this resulted in the same issues. Rendering with the CPU works though. I’m on a MacBook Pro M3 Pro Max.

Baking/Render time is scariest thing in blender
Yeah sometimes. But it depends also on complexy of the scene and requirements. Something i love is to let the addon bake and render automatically over night- and in the morning everything is finished 👍

That’s what the description of the video said: ai generated music. It’s a part of development processes to use ai tools for some tasks. But our highest priority is always to present animations produced 100% with our addon.

Make sure to enable motion blur using the helper toolbar before baking. This way required motion data will be generated. We have a quick tip video about this in our video list

Hi @FLIP Fluids, Is it possible in a next release to put all the assets preset into a sub folder called "Flip Fluids" and not to be at the root of asset manager ? It's a quite messy actually. Or give me here the ways to modify the asset library files with VS code to organised it myself ;) Ok, I can avoid to have "All" in asset list but it's faster. Thx and keep doing the great work you do with this addons !!! It's really great.
We will take a look into this. One question: our assets should be installed in a separated folder on your drive. If so, you should be about to switch between assets in the assets browser?
@@FLIPFluids Yes, I have this too, but it's faster to have upper folders to show all and do thinks faster. Ok, maybe it's my "OCD" that talking but sometime artists have difficulty to move to Blender from Maya and organized things help a lot too (avoid them to tell is a mess LOL).

Maybe you need to rename the file. From .zip to .plugin - does that help?

It’s not a ZIP file - it’s just a limitation with fileuploads on some market places, where it was required to rename the file (original plugin).

First of all thank you for all of your hard work! I was wondering if it is possible to use your whitewater system in cooperation with blender particle system to create not only whitewater but also different type of other particles suspended in water? For example coffee grounds or small pebbles probably? Also I guess it would be possible to use data calculated for water motion to drive those particles?
Unfortunately you can not directly use whitewater to interact with other particles. But you can control the behavior of all white water particles. You could make bubbles sink to the ground while shading them like coffee grounds as example. You can also control the lifetime. Another very interesting thing is rendering fluid particles. Using geometry nodes it is possible to use any shape for all the particles. Hope this is helpful :)
