I Built a Wood Fired Oven Because I Really Wanted Pizza (Reupload from Old Channel)
Hey, everyone. This is an old video from my old channel, Off Grid Vegan Chef, ha. The channel has been inactive for years, and this video is actually a better fit for this channel, so moved it over here. Thought some of you might like it. Let me know in the comments if you want to see that pizza I worked so hard for.

@@arizonaadam3000 Adam, It was a joke (OK, it was a bad joke 😁).
@@hazcat640 Oh, I know. I was just being silly, too.
I would have used scrap metal instead of plywood lol... but, hey, it works. 😅
I see your logic but that would just create a huge heat sink to the outside. You'd be burning wood for the birds.
@@arizonaadam3000I'm only worried about heat transfer to the plywood for fire safety issues, I'm trying to install my wood burning stove on my bus atm, looking at pros and cons of window vs roof
I am looking at how to do it, designs and how other people did it, of course this is temporary and not on a bus, but, still interesting to see how you did it.
@@jwspicy It takes about 700ºF of direct heat to combust wood. I've never had any issues. The stove just doesn't put out THAT much heat. I even have a small plywood and 2x4 table next to it - not shown in this video - but no issues whatsoever. Your biggest issue going through the bus roof would likely be water leaks due to curvature. I think the Tiny Wood Stove company I mentioned sells a kit just for busses. Hope that helps.
@@jwspicy I just had another idea: You could screw or glue sheet metal over the plywood with an air gap between them, using washers as spacers. That would give the plywood more heat protection without the metal conducting heat directly out of the bus.
You can make a double-wall, and you wanna do your first burn outside.
I heard that diet soda cans are lighter in weight?.
LOL
Love the glasses 😂
While it looks nice it has been my experience that a firepit made from cement blocks like these will not last. Due to the heat of the fire the blocks will crack and fall apart. I will only last for a few fires before this happens.
You're not the first person to say this, but it' not true. I've had this fire pit for 2.5 years. I just used it last week on my birthday. I've probably made at least a few dozen fires in it, maybe even 50 or more.
Inchworms are such goobers! I love em 🤗🐛
rattlesnakes really do have powerful venom, i think rattlesnake venom attacks you blood.
I believe you I got bitten by a wasp this summer for the first time I imagine the rattlesnake bite being 10000x the pain
Is there a reason you doubled up on your studs?
Yes. That's for sheer strength and an integral part of the roof assembly. Check out my older vids in my "building an off-grid house" series.
Wont ants go live in the cans, for the soda residue?
Well, they have to be clean and dry. Plain club soda won't leave a residue but beer will. I've had these cans for a long time and they don't have any mold nor are insects attracted to them. After I rinse them, I leave them in the sun for a day before bagging and storing.
How does this clear electrical regulations?
I'm not really sure. I'm not running electrical and plumbing through my cavities, so I guess this is a unique circumstance.
Aluminium
We got a Brit in the crowd, haha.
Is it really a radiation barrier? You may think that metals in general aregood reflectors and poor radiators but what about the paint? And OK so the air inside of them may insulate just fine but aluminium is a wonderful conductor so if it gets warm on one side it will be warm on the other side in no time and warming up the air causing almost instant conduction and convection. IMO you couldnt think of a better thermal bridge except copper or silver. Think of it as a heat sink. So there are flaws in your theory and I'd want to see lets say a thermal image from the outside in the winter. Maybe a heating bill. It would be better and easier to crush the cans, sell them and buy something else. I've got it. I hate mineral wool too. It's like asbestos. Polystyrene stinks. There are good natural options. Sawdust comes to mind. Hemp fiber wool is expensive. I'd MacGyver it too but there's no way it has R value anywhere close to polystyrene. It's such a good insulator it's warm to touch. A soda can is the opposite
I addressed a lot of this in the video. The color of the cans doesn't matter because visible light isn't even in the equation here. As long as they are shiny and reflective, they will reflect some IR heat. The foam on both sides is to prevent them from being a conductor, which would be a problem otherwise. I demonstrated that in the vid.
@@arizonaadam3000 Visible light and color dont matter. All colors are black to nfrared radiation. They are non-metallic, organic resins etc. They may have various emission spectra but the reflectivity of a pure metal beneath is lost. You'd be better with PET bottles and a sheet of tin foil. They even sell a foam with mylar layer if you care about radiation so much. Heat loses are mostly caused by the other two - convection and conduction. This applies to clothing too
@@trollmcclure1884 I see your point but I still think you're overthinking the "paint." There are many colored, metal products commercially sold that are Energy Star certified as radiant barriers, such as roofing panels. Anyway, thanks for your feedback.
id try stacking upside down and filling voids with blow in insulation
Will you be finishing the installation to a finish room? Im very interested in seeing how it does as an entire system. Thanks for the cool theory.
Yes. You might have noticed a small mockup in the bottom right corner. I will be finishing the room and showing results. I'm also hoping to get a thermal imaging camera by then. Thanks!
Polyisocyanurate foam boards use Pentane as a blowing agent for the expansion process. Pentane gas has a much higher R value than normal air creating the overall higher R value in the board. The problem is that the Pentane gas liquifies around room temperature. Liquid Pentane has a much lower R value making the foam board a worse insulator in low temperature scenarios.
wonder if you could find something cheap to fill the cans with that would benefit
Cotton balls perhaps?
I would really like to see an underground a/c( no electricity) system. Pipes underground emerging in the floor. With a vent stack off the roof. I believe this climate would support this.
You're describing a combination of "the stack effect" and how geothermal works. You have to go really deep below grade for that to work - about 15 ft, if I remember correctly.
Double foam with a can filled cavity in the middle looks like it will act as a double vapor barrier that can trap moisture.
Did you listen to the end? He addressed this around the 15min mark... ( It's not a vapor barrier)
I addressed that before the end of the vid. Not a vapor barrier. Too many gaps in the assembly, as opposed to solid sheets.
Seems like you should place them upside down since heat rises
Hot air doesn't rise; cold air sinks. But I wouldn't over think it.
@@arizonaadam3000 i think hot air does rise though. I think flipping the cans is silly. but it also couldn't hurt lol
Hot air does rise due to the boyant force or the surrounding air, but I agree I wouldn't overthink it. @@arizonaadam3000
So, the wall is an R-12 pack❓
LOL.
Nice
How do you get close enough to a rattlesnake which you can plainly hear???? He musta tried to pick it up and make a pet out of it….Nice snakey poo….😂
Haha, no way. This happened in a tight spot during almost total darkness, and they can basically strike the length of their body.
Of course drinking all of that soda / beer comes with it's own set of problems. 😁
You don't know the half of it, haha.
over history there has been lots of different style of insulation to keep house cool or warm depending the time of year. this is a great idea and I hope it works out for you're needs. take care and have a wonderful weekend
Thanks, and you too!
We just bought some land and I’m trying to learn about snake bites. Good story! Btw your sunglasses are sweet! What are those?
Thanks and good luck to you! I've been collecting weird/tacky glasses for a long time. Just some generic glasses I found at a thrift store. There's probably a name for the style but I don't what it is.
I got bitten in 07 by a prairie rattler and within 2 hrs I flatlined in the ER. I woke up 4 days later in a different hospital and had been in another hospital that I did not know about. The pain was not to bad for me but I’ve had 30 broken bones, shot in the right leg, 2 concussion, stabbed in the chest 9 times with a screwdriver, dislocated hip 3 times, a lot of road rash mean times stomped by cattle in a lot and severely burned on my leg knee down to my feet. The burn was the worst of all snake bite was right behind it although. Spent 3 weeks in the hospital and got a 800,000$ Dr. bill. Just glad to be alive. Thanks for sharing your story.
I think it's a cicada.
You might be right.
Holy cow! Speaking of cows that thing might carry one off!
I see a few of these every year around Monsoon. Someone said it might be a cicada. I'm not sure. Wish my lighting was better. To me, they look just like an ordinary housefly blown up 10x.
I'm surprised that you were surprised that a rattlesnake bite could be really bad. Glad you got treated in time.
He was cool! They have always fascinated me since I found out about them when I was very young.
Yeah, they're really chill and docile. I used to have a dog who would get a little too close but all they did was open their mouth, like, "Hey, back off!" ha.
Nice blank page
Well, it looks like you've made some progress, cool. What are the winters like in your area of AZ? Rainy? Just wondering if it will hamper you much. Look forward to the next vids. Don't make me wait so long, Adam! I'm OLD and would like to see the end product. 😁
Thanks, Haz. Yes, our winters are cold and somewhat damp. We get a second rainy season around Jan, and we usually get some snow. I have to try to get a lot more silicone on the roof before winter or else I'm gonna have to wait for spring. I might also have to wait until spring to finish the rainscreen cladding - that's a long process. If winter sets me back on the exterior, I'll just focus on the interior instead. I won't keep you waiting long anymore. Gonna try to stick to one vid per week.
thanks for the update and I hope you have a great weekend as well
Thanks. You too!
Hey man you all good and stuff? Last upload was 3 months ago

@@arizonaadam3000yesterday wasn’t a snake lol but I got swarmed by helllla Yellowjackets, if I we’re allergic I’d be dead rn lol I’m 23 but kinda short and light I weigh like 100 pounds, I’m about 3 minutes I took over 50 stings. Lol not nearly as painful as your rattlesnake but man that was lowkey scary to me. Last year I got a dry bite from a cottonmouth first time in my life venomous bite. Luckily tho didn’t do anything I wasn’t finna go to the hospital tho even if cause the price 💀 I was finna ride that shi out
@@jamesbrown420 Glad you're okay! I was stung by a yellowjacket once before - just one - it hurt.
@@arizonaadam3000 man they hurt wayyyy more than a normal bee or wasp, the ones that were by joints like on my knees, and right on my Heel (they legit went in my shirt and down my boots and all dude and chased me 100+ feet) it was hella hard to get em all off I had to basically run and strip, that can actually be pretty dangerous right? A big swarm.) so I was just walking and stepped over a pile of rotting logs at a park, I was herping, I think I accidentally stepped by their nest or something but anyway, the stings by my joints and on my ear and face literally hurt full force for 5 hours straight unrelenting till I went to sleep, didn’t let up at alll I was Suprised how bad I was hurting, it hurt to walk. For my body weight I did the math and estimated I got not quite 1/3 fatal dose of venom but almost 1/3
@wickenswickedreptiles
Start your fire with a mapp gas torch. Propane cook bottles fit on em they're cheaper. You're welcome 🤠
Putting old CDs on the arms is another tip I've learned to make it harder for crows or hawks to see in that area
Where you at least able to kill The rattlesnake?
Your view is incredible ❤❤
What material did ya use for the window ? Where did ya get the Material at for it to go thru window ? Thanks
I used plywood and 2x4s to make the box, which I painted black. I bought the metal thimble separate from the stove; and the pipes are just the steel pipes that came with the camp stove. I also bought the chimney cap separately.
I loved hearing your story. Its for sure worse than a black widow bite A lot of people snuff at the rattlesnake, like "Oh, its just an American snake, how bad can they be". No dude, the rattlesnake is a viper, there are other venomous snakes in different countries that don't have as potent venom.
Lame azz fire pit.
("...almost should'a cut your thumb off??...")
It doesn't burn the plastic in the window?
No. The window is mostly aluminum with a little bit of vinyl on the outside.
Dang! Didn't know that got that tall! And you promised me vids! 😁
I'm from California, so this is just crazy looking to me.
Few ppl know that severe pain can put you into shock & kill you. Fewer still know that Opioids can not only prevent this from happening in the first place, but can also reverse shock once it's set in (& thus save people's lives). Gotta love how you basically have to be dying before the "Anointed Priests" (aka doctors) will even entertain giving you their "blessings" thanks to prohibition (aka giving control of the supply+market to criminals & making them rich + powerful whereas without prohibition they'd forever be nobodies). However, we're totally free to buy the poison drug/gasoline additive Alcohol, which also is a painkiller (Alcohol's believed to release endogenous Opioids btw), albeit an inferior painkiller, w/lots of toxicity & mayhem + death inducing effects, even in it's legal pharm grade (aka least dangerous/harmful) forms. And yes, Alcohol is far deadlier than any other mainstream "addictive" drug. More ppl die from Alcohol overdoses (which are deceitfully called "Alcohol Poisonings" instead of "Overdoses") than ALL other "addictive" drugs combined. Re-read that if you're capable of logical thought & care a little bit about truth to power. (Yes, all drugs combined, as in: legal, mostly illegal aka "prescription," & fully illegal aka controlled by criminals who get rich & powerful thanks to this "war on <certain> dwugz" propaganda that's shoved down all our throats to the point ppl cant think logically or honestly about this stuff. The difference in drug lethality of Alcohol is even greater if you include drunk driving or cancers caused by alcohol, or murders - Ted Bundy & Jeff Dahmer for example always used Alcohol to be able to commit murders - or other diseases caused by Alcohol like diabetes or annihilation of the liver)
