Very nice video and informative and it was not to long. Last night I dreamed about my shop and what could I make for my area to sale and what would sale good around my area. It was a cross I didn't know what kind to make so when I got up this morning I went and did a search on crosses on You tube and wow there was your video, then I knew that was a sign to make these. Thanks you for making this video for us. I enjoyed watching it. I made one and I like that it will help me get rid of all this scrap wood. I make American flags and I have a lot of 1 1/2 inch scrap.

Unboxed mine last night and installed the mobile base (not the ICS Hydraulic one). Trying to get the saw off the pallet and on its "feet" was scary and very difficult (my girlfriend and I are both in our late 60's, and the weight was just too much). Since I didn't want to call my neighbors around midnight (I'm impatient), I came up with a plan... using a Hi-Lift Jack and 1000lb straps, I got the saw tilted about 30° before I ran out of lift capacity of the jack. Then I recalled Archimedes statement, "Give me a big enough lever and a place to stand and I will move the world". Well, hell, this HAD to be easier than the world, right? So, I got a couple of 6' long 2x4's, and alternating between the two (Lever it up with one 2x4, then push the other in next to it, a bit further in; rinse & repeat), we managed to get the saw upright with no damage or serious injuries (I did sprain my finger trying to lift the table end, prior to the strap/jack/lever process. It's ironic that I hurt my finger assembling a saw that I bought to PROTECT my fingers, LOL). If I had a do-over (or a shop crane), I'd do it differently. Next: on to the extension tables!

Great video(s). Not sure if anyone has mentioned it, but the reason the supplied push stick is somewhat pliable is, the more rigid push sticks are made of a different plastic that is prone to shattering when it comes in contact with the blade in certain ways, spraying plastic shrapnel all over the place. Wood is your best option, but the soft, foam-ended aftermarket push sticks work really well too, if you want to spend the $$$. Thanks also for the table-leveling/co-planar solution - that would drive me nuts, too. And by the way, what OCD REALLY means is, PUT THE DAMNED THING BACK WHERE IT BELONGS!, LOL. My 1.75 PCS is down in the shop right now; I only unboxed it enough to get to the manual so far. I'm in the middle of installing our new kitchen cabinets, and we can't order the granite until the lowers (and island) are installed & leveled, so that takes priority. Thanks again for the in-depth explanations of what you ran into - lots of peeps hide their mistakes, which makes their videos nothing but "fluff" pieces. Enjoy the saw.

From what I gathered the nozzles, the basic ones only work upward, where as like the T8000 work both directions, so it maybe just be something to do with that… I’ve been looking at a couple different ones trying to figure out difference and that’s only thing I noticed on packaging was direction of use.

We are the only ones that go over our woodworking with a microscope. There's always the scrap bin. I always hear, no, no, no, don't toss it. Nah, I can't live with it.

The Hercules job site saw is a very good choice. It is essentially a DeWalt without the price. It is a saw that a home owner can use for a ton of projects around the house. If you’re going to build fine woodworking, then drop the coin and by a Laguna or SawStop at $3-5K, otherwise quit complaining about precision cuts and options. I’ve had a Hurcules for a couple of years and have built shop fixtures/furniture, outdoor projects with absolutely no problems. Lastly, EVERY saw manufacturer sells their saws with a basic blade; even the high dollar ones. If you want a better long lasting cut, spend a few dollars on a different blade and the same goes for miter gauges. ALL of them come with a cheap miter gauge. Reviewers always compare a contractor saw with expensive free standing saws. I watched a reviewer criticize a $8K shop grade saw saying it didn’t preform up to his expectations. ????

I wish I watched this before ruining my piece! So thick. Immediately wipe off. Didn’t work well for me. Your description of gumming and rolling spot on. What a pain. Getting my sander ready now. :-( Also thank you for a great tutorial.

Hey Tom, just wanted to give you a shout and say that the star template works great, also love the jig for making the crosses. I just got all my wood cut for 25 more crosses and once I get them stained the jig and the stars template will get another work out. Thanks again for the great products. hey bro i was wondering if you would sale the file I have 2 lasers and 3 cncs and would love to use this in my cross making. I follow your design and give the crosses to vets and sale them to those that want them. but give them out for free more.

I wish I had seen this video 2 days sooner. Just got some of the semi-transparent stain while it was on sale at Sherwin-williams. I've been trying to find a stain that will hold up better in the sun. People like to put them in the sun. Another flag maker at a show said they use oil-based and it holds up well. I plan on testing the 2 new formulas and oil-based. I do finish with total boat's halcyon for uv protection. The stains i've been using are Plaid's Ultra Dye, Transtint, unicorn spit, whitewash, and then recently just thining out paint. I also do a full burn and clean them off for my flags.

Would love to purchase this jig if you still make them or have any. I cant find a website or link anywhere.

The saw came today and I'm currently putting it together. I was able to put my saw in the base with my best friend, Mr. two ton hoist (at 70 years old, hoists are a very good idea). It is definitely very heavy, my shipping label listed 149 kg (328 pounds), but once it's in the base, it glides beautifully. This video was a very big help.

Beautiful flag. Have you tried putting in the keyhole slots using your CNC? That's how I do it.

I'm looking to make a 12' x 8' flag to mount to the side of my garage. Is the stain going to hold up outdoors? Direct sunlight up to 100 degrees in the summer, and snow/ice with temps down to single digits. Should some sort of UV clear be used? Should i coat the whole thing front and back with some sort of clear coat?

Super job! I helped a good friend of mine pick up his 6” jet planer/edger. That is no light machine! The old gentleman he bought it from was a shop teacher. It looked like the day he brought it home amazing condition. On the table saw, I’m assuming your red throat plate sets a little below the deck? The only think I might have done differently was to removed the throat plate before sanding. On another note when it comes to rust removal, I watched a guy use a big angle grinder with a worn out wire cup brush. He had an assortment of 3M Scotch Brite pads. He cut circles out of the pad a trifle bit bigger than the cup brush. He then set the pad on top the table, then the attached cup brush and pushed it into the pad. When attached he set it back on the table top, turned it on and went over the top in even passes. He worked his way up to the white I believe which is least aggressive. He then cleaned off the top with mineral spirits and dried that off. He did that twice followed by paste wax. I also found a product at a local woodworking store. It’s called Rust Free. Use it with plenty of ventilation, it is an acid. It can be tough on paint so I always mask any painted surfaces to protect it. I saw another I believe by a gent named Ghostess? He used the 3M pass’s to agitate the surface then wipe the slurry away. It works great. One thing I’m waiting to try is Evapo-Rust for a table saw top. I will build a 2x4 frame so the top fits inside. I will then line it with heavy plastic stapling it around the outside upper edge. Set the table top in it upside down and add the Evapo-Rust. It’s amazing and reusable. It’s great stuff and unbelievably harmless. You can get it at Harbor Freight. Well rambled enough. I just like to share what I’ve learned.

Cant find those PVC tubes (except schedule 40),caps,& coupling inserts locally around here in small community London Ky. Where did you buy your PVC? Keep your great videos coming. Thanks for your help!

trying this myself, about 1/2 way through and while time consuming, I think it's a great idea and makes great gifts for family and friends.

Tom, I want to say how impressed I am with your new jig. You did an excellent job with the design and it's very well built. You even CNC'd the directions onto the board so it's hard to make a mistake. I also want to give a shout out on the acrylic stars jig you made. Both jig's make the job incredibly quicker to mass produce the crosses. If anyone out there is making a lot of crosses, I highly recommend Tom's jig, the construction is amazing and it's built to last.

Why don't you use your CNC to cut your keyholes?
