  • An update to my PioneerWorks Sander tool review video to show how I solved the dust collection problem with an easy fix that resulted in a huge improvement to performance. This easy upgrade makes this sander a low cost alternative to high end sanders like the festool, Mirka Deros, and 3m Xtract.

I’m glad you’ve found success with this sander. I haven’t had the same luck. PioneerWorks has sent me two of them. They are loud and vibrate a lot and were causing issues when using them for sanding. I really wanted to like the sander but ended up going back to using my Dewalt. The Cen-Tec system is what I used to connect to the PioneerWorks sander when I was using it. It works fairly similar to the Rockler connectors.

Yeah, that sucks, man. I've had a great experience with mine. Definitely worth the price I paid as long as it lasts a year, I feel like. Low noise and virtually no vibration at all. Removes a ton of material-- especially with that cubitron paper. Night and day difference between it and my own Dewalt. I guess that's the gamble with getting a sander that performs like one that costs several times more. You don't get that guarantee (beyond 30 days) and quality that you rightfully expect from a several hundred dollar tool. Can you return it again? I'm thinking the odds of getting 3 bad one's in a row must be low. I've heard back from several other people that also got it and love it. I'm sorry you're experience with it wasn't better, because when it's working right, it's pretty darn good.

It's been great for me for about a year now. I will eventually upgrade to a more expensive one though.

Also, I suspect that with careful application with a heat gun and a wooden dowel, you could put the dowel inside the dust exhaust port, then heat the plastic until soft, then bend it away from the sander body the critical 1/4 inch or so and just slide the adapter over the external part of the port instead of an internal adapter

I'm not sure that would be effective. That port only extends like an inch outside of the sander and is virtually touching the bottom of the sander body where it exits. It's possible, but I'd be more concerned with causing damage on this sander that I can't really get parts for if something goes wrong, so I think the way I did it would be a safer method.

Nice update. I also have that Rockler hose kit. How is the sander overall working still?

Still working great for me. That hose improved the dust collection greatly, but it's still not a Festool or Mirka in that regard, but other than that, it's been great for me.

From a plumber: when in a fluid system, you never decrease pipe size when you’re trying to increase volume flow. Keeping the largest inside diameter cross section and the least restrictive path will increase air flow and reduce noise. Chamfer the inside edges of those hard connectors as well if they stick up to help prevent chips from catching. The sander may not make chips, but it can still suck them up. Also I recommend silicone plumbers grease/ electricians grease for rubber instead of petroleum jelly because it breaks down over time with some rubber. If it doesn’t start turning gummy in 6 months then you’re probably fine though

Thanks for the info. I used very little vaseline on that fitting and I'll not be adding any over time, so I'm not overly concerned, but I'll keep an eye on it. Those Rockler pieces can be replaced individually for less than 10 dollars if necessary.
