Mountain View Mushrooms
Приєднався 14 вер 2020
Mountain View Mushrooms was created by Hunter Vargo at the age of 17. His goal was to build a successful business aligned with his interests. The culinary versatility and cultivation cycle of mushrooms fascinated him, leading him to skip college and immerse himself in the world of fungi. After two years of self-taught growing, he has mastered the craft. Mountain View Mushrooms now supplies a variety of exotic gourmet mushrooms to multiple restaurants and marketplaces in Northeastern Pennsylvania.
This channel is for anyone interested in the ins and outs of mushroom cultivation. There are countless things you can do with mushrooms, and I can't wait to share everything I know about growing and cooking these amazing fungi.

Thank you for your encouragement. More coming
How long does it takes to pin once you put your bags in your grow room? Mine are taking so long :( Great video!🙂
Depends on what mushroom but generally it's around 10 days. Temperature can also play a major factor.
YOU did a great job with the video
Thanks I appreciate it😁
I’m scared if I cut my substrate dirt too deep…any effects ?
Thank you for sharing!
Inspiring, i hope i can start a small farm
Thanks for your video ; ) How many times does it take to pasteurize?
One time, for around 24 hours
Dang. He was not kidding when he said small scale farm lol. 😅
❤❤❤❤
How long have you had it for and do you have any concernes for mold due to humidity
If your place has insulation sealed really well on its very interior walls the moisture from the humidity coming from the humidifier shouldn't go anywhere other than the room you're growing in.
May I ask if you are in the US? I am a supplier in China, I like your video very much, but I didn't find your email. May I ask if you can review the products? Our products are very suitable for mushroom farming, hope we can cooperate as well as receive your reply. Thanks!

Bro thank you for rekindling a old passion i had for growing mycelium. I was only growing one kind then wasn't really bothered about gourmet. I learned a lot mostly from what not to do. I know its not the same and im sure everything will be different. But somethings will be the same. Its something i loved and doing something that you love isn't work
Thanks you. Please how can I contact you ? I thought I was ready to start, watching your video I know I am not. Still you speak on the topic well I would like to be a student. TEACH ME!!!
How many 24 hour sessions at 212F can you go on a single propane tank?
I use at least one and a half 30 pound tank for one cook
@@mountainviewmushrooms71 Thank you
New subscriber here!! Great videos!!
Hi, Hunter, How did you bring fresh air in. Did you bring air from outside directly or inside the building. If from outside how did you solve temp issue during the winter? Thank you ! love your video. best wishes
ERV system is what we had in the basement. It will bring fresh air in while preserving some heat. Also I had an exhaust fan pulling air from the basement into the tent then to the outside.
Nice video man, thank you. Subbed
Hey! I am wondering if I can steam-prepare substrate for species other than oysters with this method. Have you successfully used it for more (sterility)demanding species like maitake or lions mane?
Yes they all work with this method, just cook the blocks longer if necessary.
Linoleum all over the place? For sterilizing as well as buried underground? Ideal farm setup?
Great video my friend. Thank you for sharing. I used to grow shiitakes but then I went to school for chemical engineering. I really dislike everything about the people I work with so I am changing careers back to growing gourmet exotics...
That's a pretty interesting story, glad you liked the video! More coming but waiting on a couple things. Best of luck friend!
I'm thinking of starting up, but went to a Farmer's Market and saw no booths with Mushrooms. The problem is are there no sales booths because of luck or is this area not interested? I do know that Morel hunting is popular around here and I just discovered yellow oysters grow wild which could add to my variety seasonally.
Test it out😁👍
No booths means a lot of opportunity. Don’t see any being sold? Let them know they’re missing out by bringing quality product and filling a hole in the market. I’m sure that more than a few customers hope to see mushrooms there soon.
How long do you let it run and what temp does it get up too?
212f for 24hours
How often are you running your intake fans? And is that how you cool your grow room
Currently only running exhausted fan and have a cracked window that will introduce new air. Everything is under negative pressure.
Awesome! What type of mushrooms use this mix for their blocks?
Almost all, except for shiitake and portobellos
@@mountainviewmushrooms71 wow nice!
what temperatures are optimal for the growth of most mushroom species?
60f-70f works great for almost all species, the colder the better looking and longer lasting the mushrooms will be but they grow slower.
nothing detailed. all like your haircut style mixed curly and unclear.😅
Actually this video is very information dense it you've already done cursory research yourself. If you already understand even the basics of mycology this is enough information to understand the cost of starting a farm
Aww I love it, thanks friend!
Very interesting, thank you! :)
Great video
Best to heat the lids before you drill

Want is your favorite cut now after a couple years. A lot of people are saying to cut an X that's only a couple inches wide but it seems that sometimes the mushrooms struggle to push out of such a small hole.
For this particular mushroom I recommend that you do cut an x but do a little more than that. It appears that the more surface area is disturbed the more pins you will get with the pink oyster mushroom.
Do you do any marketing to inform people of your stand, or do you just rely on them seeing it as they drive by? How would you go about finding a good spot for a roadside farm stand?
Yes I just put up signs and let people come and go as they please. It's worked pretty well on busy days. If I didn't have that corner I would try to talk to people that are in my circle and get to know some people with land that have roadside corners. Best of luck friend
Thanks! This was a great video
😁
Bro, I've been doing this a long time and you summarize years of tips lol
Awesome, happy I'm summing things up right.
I'm doing the exact same project 😊
u killin it bro
After he made around a 100 Bucks, he was never seen again :D
😉😂
Could you give some insight into how you set your prices? That’s what I’m having the most trouble discerning right now. I love your content by the way, it’s inspiring me to start planning for my own little venture in mushroom farming! Keep it up 😁
Awesome yes, that is a great video idea and can be tricky. I start at half pound for $10 as long as the product is looking great. For wholesale I do $10 for a pound on most things but could probably get more than that. Hopefully that rough outline helps for now. Thanks for watching and more to come
Restaurant!?
can rye grain be used as a substitute to the soybean hulls? I am trying to avoid any soy
Just noticed the deer behind you! Beautiful
Yes it can be! sorry for the late reply!
I probably would do 20% rye in your mixture
Great content thank you! I am in the process of costing everything up from my country qnd just wqnted to know how many litres is your presto canner? Thanks man have a good day!
I believe it's the 160 ltr one from kwitex
Thank you! This is right where I'm at in my small mushroom business adventures. Very helpful! :)
Awesome best of luck!
So does this work with supplemented substrate mixes like masters mix or wheat bran supplemented substrate? As I understand they need to be sterilized. If thats the case then I really don't know what the difference between pasteurization and sterilization. Would definitely appreciate some help on the Thanks
Any substrate block you produce with supplementation should be pasteurized or sterilized pasteurized is killing almost all bad things and anything that's left is very weak to spread quickly, and sterilized is everything is dead. I pasteurize for longer periods on my operation using masters mix and no farther supplementation. This will work if you want to pasteurize not sterilize. With spawn you usually want to sterilize. Like highly recommended for spawn.
@@mountainviewmushrooms71 ok that makes sense, thanks for the reply and keep up the great work with the content!
Great video man thank you.
Of course!
Do you own an autoclave ?
I use a massive pressure cooker from Indian 😂 works the same thought
Lol blow torch?…. Dude bottle of rubbing alcohol, a candle, and box of matches.
Great idea! Hopefully Hepa doesn't blow it out though, lol
Wow. Your stuff has really inspired me. A video on the buisness side would be cool. Talking about all the permits and licenses you need and how much you make?
Lots of videos in pipeline😉, working on something big for farmers then I'll be back to UA-cam
I love this!! Do you have the schematics or steps ? I'd love to replicate this
Hey Fred! Just saw the comment, no schematic yet, but maybe in future. Look up maine cap and stem, on UA-cam they have a video with all the prices just have to figure out how to use all the prices and put it together. Then a little programming.
why dont you upload video nowadays ?
Not much incentive for me too. But that will change once I publish something I've been working on to hopefully promote in future videos. Thanks for watching though! 😁 I will be back soon, in fact I have two videos that just need editing.
@@mountainviewmushrooms71 your videos are very good in terms of quality, learning a lot about mushrooms from your videos. Never stop uploading, the subscribers and earning will grow eventually.
How long do you sterilize for?
A little over 24 hours
