I FAILED!!!
Sometimes no matter how hard you try, you just don't make it. I have made it up this obstacle once out of the 7 years I have done this trail. There is always the hope that next year I will make it up!

Why is it that videos never do justice to how steep things are in real life? There are a lot of steep climbs and decents in Moab which always keeps things interesting! #moab #steep #jeepxj

Jeep Cherokee XJ: Frame Stiffeners & Rock Slider Replacement
Переглядів 11 тис.Рік тому
I have been wanting to do frame stiffeners for years, but denting my frame pushed me over the edge. Since I had to cut off my rock sliders to do the stiffeners, I replaced my rocker panels with 2x6 rectangular tubing at the same time. #rockerpanelreplacement #jeepxj

I do this trail every year with friends. I had a short and needed to be towed off this trail two years before so this was my redempton run. This isn't the most exciting video, but speding the day with friends off road is always a good day. Get out and make memories with friends. Enjoy!

Thank you for being a real man and NOT wearing eye and hearing protection when using power tools and grinding!!!! I understand IF you wear a welding mask when you're welding. IF you don't, you are definitely THE MAN!!!
Hahaha i appreciate the comment!
Weak sauce. You should have built a ford 9 inch axle. The cnter sections from tru-high 9 are the best. Dana 60 strength, loads of ground clearance high pinion and WAY WAY stronger than that whimpy 8.8.
The price was cheap and the 8.8 is way better than the dana 35. I do not regret my decision. With the larger axle tubes and the truss, it should hold up for a long time. 9" are hard to find and significantly more expensive. 🙂
2000 4cyl. 5spd here. Just swapped my head unit thinking the f/r left channel was bad. Didn't fix the problem. I'll check the wiring! Thanks for the info!
I have never seen a 4 cylinder XJ. Is it an SE?
@ProjectXJ yes, it's an SE. 2.5L (150) SMFI I4 "Power Tech" engine with a 5 spd. 1st gear in 4 low is super crawl. It's great in the woods. Almost as fast off the line as my old 6cyl xj. Gotta downshift to 4th on highway hills though. 😅
From my childhood home, I could see Charouleau Gap AKA " The Gap" in the late 70s and 80s we would ride BMX bikes up there, horses Jeeps BAJA bugs and my stepdads 84 Buick Riviera LOL 🤫
Is that your power steering pump whining lol?
It is. The box needs to be rebuilt. I just haven't gotten around to it yet since it hasn't completely failed. 🙃
Same rock on my 2001 xj 6.5in iron rock long arm kit
I can’t wait till my XJ is good to go next weekend! Tore my upper control arm bracket off lol
Haha i did that too. But it worked out because i fixed it by getting a truss! It always feels good to get back on the trails after repairs/upgrades.
@@ProjectXJ I wanted to order the truss cause it was only 40$ more but of course they didn’t have any in stock haha. Yes it feels great to hit the trail again!
@BradleyBeeksAdventures I never miss an opportunity for an upgrade! Its easier to sell to the wife when its a need instead of a want. 😉
@@ProjectXJ hahaha smart man!
Looks like fun. Where is this?
Charouleau Gap. It goes from Oro Valley to Oracle, north of Tucson, AZ.
@@ProjectXJ stop at biosphere 2? I'm in East Az next to Morenci mine/safford
@BlackAndBlueGarage You can see it just off the trail.... if its still light when you get to that part of the trail!
When the Comanche is done we should get some people together for a trail ride
@BlackAndBlueGarage Agreed. Lets do it!
Charlouleau!!!! That's a hell of an obstacle though.
I was really hoping to make it this year. I gave it a good try. 🙃 Its always fun no matter what.
When was this? Is the entire trail doable or is it still washed out?
This was a few years ago. I just did it a couple weeks ago and it was passable. There is just one large washout near oracle that you can see from last years video.
@@ProjectXJ nice I might go out there whenever a group plans another run I am tired of three feathers.
@ghernandez6457 yeah its a great trail. We always spend all day playing around on the obstacles and having lunch etc.
Thanks. Straight to the point! Helps a lot.
Recorded vertically:(
No, the original is horizontal. Its just converted in order to be a short. Not sure why shorts have to be vertical.
I say- he drank the drink, and got drunk
😂😂😂😂
Thank you! Fixed my 2000 XJ Sport driver door speakers within just 15min
I am happy to hear that! Thank you.
Boring not a cybertruck
There's 2min I'll never get back.
Get out to moab and experience it for yourself! You won't regret it. 🙂
454 ram! Kills me when an old vehicle is restored with an engine from another mfgr. Used to love the sound of the mopar starters!then the engine comes alive and its on.
Respirator and a mask.
What year is the XJ?
Its a 97.
Ppe? Bruh.
I feel like more stuff flies into my eyes when i wear safety glasses. Then i can't see what i am doing and am more likely to hurt myself.
Please use eye protection, I have personally seen someone get a piece of wire in the eye permanently blinding them 🙏 But I really enjoyed the video I miss my XJ , I have a JKUR and I'm going to get and build another XJ 😁
I will do better going forward. I always seem to get more stuff in my eyes when i wear eye protection, but it would keep wires from hitting them.
Nice video... thank you for sharing
Looks like a good time wish I could have made it hopefully next time!
Hey man have you ever broke an axle?
I have not. I upgraded to chromoly axle shafts in the front and i don't think i could break the 8.8 shafts.
@@ProjectXJ what gear ratio?
@@moejr14 4.10
What size tire and how much lift? Nice XJ
@williamdomey7584 i have 35's on a 4.5" long arm lift.
On the barnes middle frame stiffners do they weld up to the floor boards?
I guess you could weld it to the floor. I have never seen anyone do that though. There was a small gap that i would have had to fill.
Did you notice any difference after installing the stiffners?
There is a little less flex in the body. My doors don't bind up when flexed out. I also wanted them because i hit my frame on rocks and i didn't want it to dent again.
I hit this gap on my 250 ktm awesome adventure. Thanks!
I just picked up a rmz 250. I might have to try it. 🙂
Definitely man! I live in Mesa. We like to hit this one a year. I’m actually over due be out there soon.
I'm looking at these ones
They are a great tire.
We went on the road the rail. It was really crowded. People camping out in RVs ..Lot of UTVS,,dirt bikes Good folks out there barbecuing. There was some mountain bike festival out there. Crazy look like those about 40 vehicles. They had bunch of easy ups look like the real party. We didn’t go by there on dirt bikes,,,they don’t like our kind. Lol ,It was nice ,, just a little too crowded for me..
...idiots
The mud, the rocks, the trails-offroading is where we test our limits and create lasting memories.
Gotta love a good ol XJ!
Nice flex bro..💪👍👍
Thank you! I am always impressed with how it flexes. I flexed so much this trip that i hit the horn. 😆
1st! moss green pearl cherokees rule the world!!!
Haha i love the color. When i repaint my jeep, it will be the same color!

Really liked the video. And THANK GOD for no music! Got yourself a subscriber.
Headed to moab tonight so i am hoping to post a couple more videos soon. Thank you for the sub!
That's your purge valve it's bad need to replace it
Looks good did the same thing to mine. My frame was so dented from the previous owner I couldn't even pull it out with a 5 pound puller.
Yeah now i feel better about coming down on rocks. I shouldn't be able to hurt it now.
I heard yesterday, September 9 , 2023 from someone that lives in ORACLE Arizona ,,the Charlotte gap is not passable for the ORACLE side anymore ,,,with the winter rains now there’s a 10 foot straight ledge, the road is washed out, no dirt. . I’m gonna go check it out.
That is good to know. I wonder if the group that maintains the trails will get around to fixing that.
Don't believe that my friend. Its always do-able. Let's go run it whenever you guys want, I l8ve at the base. They just put out the fires on the trail and opened it back up
Alot of traffic at the Gap this last weekend. Atleast 5 trucks and 3 SxS total
So what's the latest update, passable???
Do you think a bronco Sasquatch could make it? Tried it in a lifted subaru. 😂 didn’t go well Definitely Would want to do it with other trail people.
Any stock vehicle will struggle a little. You definitely need sliders and good ground clearance but a bronco can do it. The more mods, the less damage it will take. 😀
Nice.. I myself left a gap for cleaning purposes and undercoating 😊
Got a good laugh out of the Gladiator, we had the same thing happen crossing a washed out area in NM.
good job hoss
Thank you.
Wait u til one of those wires Flys into your eyeball... eye protection broski!!😎
Oke how to lifting add bigger tire for light offroad without trimming and rubbing? Now thats a challenge
A would say a 3" lift and some 30" or maybe 31" tires would be just right. I ran than for 5 years on one of my XJ's. No rubbing, looks good and is capable too.
@@ProjectXJ how about 3,5 inch lift and 32s?I don't plan to do crazy flex lol
@@theweknd6946 you might need to extend your bump stops or just not remove your sway bar in order to avoid rubbing with a 32.
@@ProjectXJ thanks for the advice, appreciate man, I will try to do that, take care
@@theweknd6946 don't forget about your wheel backspacing too. A 32 is probably 10.5" wide and could rub while turning. You probably want aftermarket wheels with a 4.5" backspacing unless you want to run wheel spacers, but i am not a fan of wheel spacers. If you do get them, use hub-centric ones.
are the rock slider gussets open on the top ? or did you cap them before welding them on ?
They are open. I left the bottom open that way any water will just run out of them and dry. Rust isn't much of a problem here in Arizona.
@@ProjectXJ that make sense. I live in the wet Appalachian mountains, so I might try to cap mine with some thin sheet metal and fill with cavity way… I already welded in the sliders, just need to add some gussets. I really like the way yours turned out! Thanks for posting a the video and response
@MrMrsregor you could always paint the inside to help, but i thought about covering them like you said but for me i don't think it necessary.
No safety glasses what smart man
Lol i still have my eyeballs. Glasses seem to make more stuff go in my eyes.
