  • I have been building my XJ on a budget so when I needed a new rear drive shaft, it just made sense to find a cheap used one and rebuild it. I little bit of time and money and its like new again!

    So if i install a sye on my xj i can just use any front driveshaft from another xj and it will bolt right on? I have about 5.5 to 6 inches of lift

    • @ProjectXJ
      @ProjectXJ  2 роки тому

      Yes. There are 2 different front xj shafts, one being an inch longer than the other but both should work.

      @@dylanreynolds4899 correct. It bolts right up. Its a 1310 yoke.

    Is there any reason that I cannot use to slip yolk on the transfer case attaching it to the double cardan(sic) joint AND the slip yolk on the front driveshaft to attach to the rear axle?

    • @ProjectXJ
      @ProjectXJ  3 роки тому +1

      You could, i guess but i have never seen a drive shaft like that. The stock shaft has a u-joint on one side that attaches to the yoke on the axle and the transfer case has the slip yoke on it. When the slip yoke is in the drive shaft, it has a u-joint om both ends that attach to a yoke, one on the axle and one on the transfer case.

      @@ProjectXJI'm wanting to get by without having to get a slip yoke eliminator for the rear of the transfer case.

      @@GhettoFabulous99 oh yeah you can't do that. In order to use a double cardon shaft, you have to get a slip yoke eliminator.

      @@ProjectXJ apparently not quite true. Cherokee Ronnie and others have done it and even sell them built that way.

      I guess one of us is confused on what exactly we are talking about. (Probably me). If you want to use a double cardan shaft, you have to have a fixed yoke on the transfer case to bolt the shaft to. You cannot keep the slip yoke on the transfer case and use a double cardan shaft.

      @ProjectXJ  Рік тому +1

      @@moejr14 i bought the kit that i posted a link for. It was $103, but now its like $130. I would recommend getting non-greaseable u-joints and the greasable centering yoke. That will work no matter what driveshaft you have. Sometimes the non-greaseable centering yoke rubber boot gets messed up or just breaks off and its difficult to put a new one on.

    the lack of gloves lets me know theres prolly no safety glasses either

      @ProjectXJ  2 роки тому

      Yeah, I can never work with gloves. I don't know what it is about safety glasses, but they seem to funnel things into my eyes more than keep things out of them. I am always careful and still have all my digits. 🙂
