It's not always about fixing something, it's about understanding why it failed. Let's have fun troubleshooting! Don't just change a part hoping to fix it...it backfires more times than not. There's tons of videos showing how to, but not many on the important subject of WHY! The content is limited for diesel engine ECM diagnostics. Let's see if we can fill in that void. Like, comment and subscribe to do your part to keep this channel alive !

I suspect I’m having trouble with my PATS, even though my 2007 Expy has been stripped down to a roller/camper (removed front end, powertrain, drivetrain, dash, seats, etc) that I plan to tow as a sleeper/camper. I decided to NOT rewire everything, since the fuses/relays in the BJB and SJB give me about 99% (still no SJB power to 5A “radio” fuse #28 for some reason) of what I want (window operation, lights, etc) with just a few jumpers. I hear the internal relays clicking on/off in the SJB which I assume is the PATS going haywire, but not sure how to disable. I may expose the PCB of the SJB and see if I can solder something to kill the annoying clicking sounds. Any pointers?
@@woodstovehooters4558 this is a very interesting project . I would like more info lol very curious. Start with the circuits that don't work.. find the relay for suspect circuit. Check for power at pin 30 of relay. You can also join my discord server where you can post stuff about your build cheers 🍻 discord.gg/PfxwCWdu
What scanner are you using to see the codes? This would be an easy fix if that’s it.
In this video I was using a snap on Zeus, but most scan tool would do for reading your fault codes.
Hey changed starter ignition switch still no crank no start jump started from starter starts but shifts goofy and fans keep coming on johnnyo balt md
Sounds like the tcm is not recognizing park. If the tcm is offline it will still try to shift but will have a hard time. It could also explain the fans due to an issue with the trans temp sensor wich may command the fans on to try to cool down transmission cooler. Can you tell me if it shows what gear its in, in the instrument cluster.

Good look! Very interesting for someone like me, who has no idea about this stuff.
I have basically the same thing going on, been looking for videos to confirm what i was thinking (lift pump in tank) waiting on it to come in now. Running a Titan 39 gallon fuel tank.
A lot of times it’s just a Electrical issue Broken/ exposed wires, and It will cause after treatment fuse to pop and that’s the mean Issue with low def gauge and stop Engine light to come on
If the truck doesn’t start and you got the low def light. It’s a bad relay!!
My egr valve is clean as a whistle but probably cuz it’s deleted. Still smoking slightly on accelerations.
Yeah if the block off plates are in you won't get any flow from the down pipe, through the cooler and finally through the EGR valve. Start with the easy things ... air filter, boost leaks.. Sounds like you're not reaching your commanded boost pressure. Or it could be low reading from MAF sensor. Can you hook up a scan tool and get me any codes that are active. Also I would like to see a couple live data PID's 1) for the Mass air flow rate in g/s at WOT ( driving) 2)boost pressure in psi
Nice video. I see you got the LoWash on that Truck. My truck does the same thing even though I’ve changed sensors several times and track wiring back to the pcm/tipm. Any ideas on why those low wash warnings keep popping up. I read the sensors are sort of capacitive, and the computer sends a voltage pulse so you see a square wave on the scope, just wondering if you ever messed with it
If you want to shoot the shit about the low wash circuit, join my discord server discord.gg/fhUqcsg4 We can look up the specifics and try to understand how it all works.
I recently pulled out my edge tuner, and noticed a lot of black smoke on take off.. changed out ebp and egr no real difference

Straightforward helpful video😊
But when all else fails like you see here. Call the man.
Pittsburgh power sells catalyst that helps with combustion burn to help reduce soot in the filter reducing regens. And reduce def consumption. 4.5 oz to 100 gallons of fuel. Check it out.
OTR diagnostic tool , has force Regen, delete 5 mph derates, clear codes. Live date, and able to read trouble code. But not in OEM. Can call otr for interpretation.
What would cause nothing on the dash to come up besides the anti theft?
That's usually the case when the ignition is off, the anti theft flashes occasionally as a theft deterrent
Thank you for the super fast response! The key is in the on position. no abs, engine light, battery light, etc. just the flashing anti theft light. What do you think? This is on a 2009 F350 with the 6.4
@@BenClem5 you're welcome, it's beer o clock after all 🍻 it seems to me your ignition isn't turning on. Not because of a bad ignition But because a fuse , relay , battery power distribution or ground is at fault. Make sure battery terminals are tight and charged And report back, I can look up wiring diagrams to help isolate ignition circuits after.
@@diagnorth battery’s have been on a maintainer. Any idea what fuses or relays to check? This is a customers truck and he’s anxious to get it back
Open this link, check all the fuses pertaining to ignition for power with a test light. www.startmycar.com/ca/ford/f-350/info/fusebox/2009#anchorfusebox1
Have a 09 f250 swapped out rail fuel pump now have no crank or fuel pump power
Can you do a fault scan? See if communication is a possible with pcm.
Did you try changing the right front tire? Edit formatting
lol damn that prolly would of worked
You replaced the harness going to the power distribution box?
Yes, I replaced a length of wire that starts at the power distribution box and goes to the acm behind the drivers side step.
@@diagnorth Yes that’s what I had thought initially, Great video thanks for sharing . I have software but no access to troubleshoot side of it, Is there a website you kno that has troubleshooting? I tend to work without it but in this case I could of used some help with the diagrams and stuff . Luckily I ran into your videos
Did you only have 625 or was 1232 fmi 9 also in display?
I don't recall exactly what other codes it had but there were some others
Sooo i just replaced cpc4 on 2019 freightliner cascadia due to no crank no start. Still got no start for about 15 to 20 mins. Truck fired right up. Im wondering if the truck needed time to read the new cpc? Im up and running now but open to all the knowledge i can come across
Interesting.. the last cpc4 I changed worked as soon as I plugged it in. This was on a 18 western star. It had throttle issues but always started. So it would be hard to compare. But normally no it shouldn't take any amount of time to read. All can bus signals should be instant. Did you have the cpc4 programmed before install? Was it new or used?
@diagnosticnorth yes brand new and programmed by freightliner. I didn't think it needed any time, just double checking. Just makes me nervous at the thought of anything else being the problem especially since these modules cost so much.. thanks anyway man!
@diagnosticnorth I'm doomed again! But I'm starting to think it's not cpc4. Have the exact same problem after only 4 days of function. The "check" light came on. Then once I shut the truck off, no crank no start🤦♂️😫
@@jaydawg7200 if we were anywhere near each other I would recommend having me come check out your truck! It sounds like you need some diag done. The problem you describe sounds like a can bus issues. Start by checking for 60 ohm resistance between can hi and can low ( with ignition off).

YES SIR💪came out nice💪 currently have a 7.3 single cab 2001 in the works as well with the utility box trying to make it into my welding rig🙏
Hey brother, nice video,, what's the part number,??
For the aftertreatment module ? I can get it for you in a sec.
1869261
Thank you
I repaired the power issue and the truck runs but engine light stays on.. The same code is stored permanently in history. Any suggestions?
Sometimes the modules need to see so many drive cycles before it allows it to clear. Also depending on how long this code was active for and how much the engine ran without the aftertreatment module online, it may need a regen.
Thanks
my truck have same this problem can you tell you how you fix plz
Test for 5v at the sensor that are throwing fault codes.
I have this similar issue except it won’t do it when the truck is cold once it reaches temp it stops reading it and flickers around. Will start in neutral no problem but not in park once I shut it off and try restarting
Could be a cable adjustment issue.. it is also possible that as a component warms up it stops working properly.. Such as transmission range sensor or tcm.
got code p0087 now my truck wont start up and was stalling when the engine light came on cant figure out the problem
Do you hear the fuel pump in the tank making noise ? You should hear a humming noise for about 5 seconds when key is turned on.
it ended up being a fuel pump thank god i thought my whole fuel system was messed up@@diagnorth

Hey man. I just love you. Show these young idiots how to break a key in a frozen lock. I mean they are just some lazy ass people. Them young folks would call somebody to come & break the key for them. But you are the man. You showed just how to do themselves.
Thanks for the video. Had the same problem on a 2018 GMC Sierra 1500.
Really appreciate seeing a Diesel Mechanic working on Class 8 stuff from the diagnostic perspective. There are plenty of automotive diag guys but not a lot of class 8 truck diag guys. Good Stuff. 👍
Thank you for the kind words
Just need a large enough deep socket to fit over the rachet handle, and the extension if your liking, and boom , instant sniper bar
How about a box end wrench. Used them before I made up special pipes !
You know you can buy that Ratchet wrench I have one pretty good I like it
None of my tool truck guys ever heard of anything like that. Where do you find it ?
Spare pipes around would do the trick, surely a shop had those lying around
Sometimes clearance between the frame and engine is limited. Especially when trying to remove the a/c compressor on a 6.0 PS to gain access to the crank speed sensor. Trust me this helped immensely and was in my opinion better than a pipe.
I usually just grab the bottle jak handle and slide it over the ratchet handle. Bigger lever
So this 6.0 PS I was working on had some hard to reach a/c compressor bolts. We needed a little extra length for a 1/4" ratchet due to clearance issues... In my opinion this worked better than the pipe.
Working on something clean is usually the exception in my world. However if something happens to be at the shop i wash it as good as possible to make up for the dirty ones. LOL
It's never clean enough 😂 This time of the year for me is especially bad with all the salt and shit!
Order a pressure washer to buddy.
Lmao love it, always dealing with these real grimy units
Colored zip ties and flush cut pliers. Day one hire... you cut all zip ties flush. You are issued flush cut pliers, and will never be questioned about a replacement. If you see a zip tie in the area you are working that is not cut flush... you will cut it flush. I've only run one guy off for that policy. I sleep well knowing he works for the competition. I see somebody mentioned 3M solutions. Works fine for the environment they mention. They work like shit in hydraulics, extreme temperatures, harsh handling, and solvents. Thomas and Betts make similar cable ID solutions... Colored zip ties is still the better solution... and flush cut pliers.
Flush cut side cutters are a mechanic's best friend ! So far you're right, the most practical solution is a handy set of coloured zip ties.
I literally just did this today. Minus the past through our horse.
