Join Kim on an exciting toy-hunting adventure as she scours the aisles of vintage toy stores in search of two legendary pieces: a G2 Transformers Onslaught and a Madball for her good friend and fellow toy enthusiast, Froggy Flips. Along the way, Kim dives deep into the history of these iconic toy lines, sharing fascinating details about their origins, appeal, and why collectors are so passionate about them. She also takes a moment to discuss toy grading-what it is, why it matters, and how it can impact the value of your favorite vintage toys.
The Quest for G2 Transformers Onslaught
First up on Kim's list is the highly sought-after Generation 2 (G2) Transformers Onslaught, a must-have for any Transformers collector. The G2 Transformers line, introduced in the early 1990s, revitalized the classic franchise with bold neon colors, updated designs, and a more aggressive marketing strategy aimed at a new generation of fans. Onslaught, the leader of the Combaticons, is a standout figure from this line. Known for his ability to transform into a military truck and form the core of the massive combiner robot Bruticus, Onslaught represents the pinnacle of 1990s toy engineering and creativity. Kim shares her love for the G2 line, pointing out its unique place in Transformers history and why Onslaught is a grail piece for many collectors.
Hunting for a Madball
Next, Kim turns her attention to Madballs, a wildly creative and quirky toy line that captured the imagination of kids in the mid-1980s. These grotesque, squishy foam balls featuring outlandish, creepy designs were created by AmToy, a subsidiary of American Greetings. Each Madball had a personality of its own, from the one-eyed Oculus Orbus to the fanged Screamin' Meemie. Kim explains why these toys remain beloved by collectors and pop culture enthusiasts, showcasing the humor, creativity, and nostalgia that make them enduring icons. She’s determined to find the perfect Madball for Froggy Flips, who’s a big fan of quirky and unique vintage toys.
What Is Toy Grading?
During her hunt, Kim takes a moment to talk about toy grading, a process that has become increasingly popular among collectors in recent years. Toy grading involves having a professional organization, such as the Action Figure Authority (AFA) or Collectible Grading Authority (CGA), evaluate the condition of a toy and assign it a grade based on factors like its physical condition, packaging, and rarity. Kim explains the benefits of toy grading, including how it can help preserve and protect valuable collectibles, increase their market value, and provide buyers with confidence when purchasing high-end items. However, she also touches on the debate surrounding toy grading, with some collectors preferring ungraded toys they can handle and display freely.
Why This Video Is a Must-Watch
Whether you're a hardcore collector, a casual fan, or someone who just loves a good treasure hunt, this video is packed with everything you love about vintage toys. Kim’s enthusiasm, knowledge, and sharp eye for rare finds make this an entertaining and educational journey into the world of toy collecting. Plus, you’ll get an inside look at two iconic toy lines-G2 Transformers and Madballs-and learn more about the fascinating world of toy grading. Hi!
Is it me or does the sound quality get pretty rough occasionally when the interviewer speaks? It is a shame because I loved the discussion when I could hear it.
Great coverage - hope you folks do more toy show videos like this
Thanks! Did you watch the first video from last week?
this is the first video I've seen on this channel and was super disappointed. The camera guy sucked and the lady sucked. Camera guy should have actually pointed the camera at the girls face instead of treating it like a candid camera and the girl should have made more of an attempt to talk to the camera rather than the camera guy. It felt like nothing but a third wheel and was not watchable at all
Thanks for watching
Holy shit this woman sounds so fucking dumb.
Yikes! Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning.
@kimazn Not at all, but every 30 seconds I hear you grasp at any object you can to make a forced reference to your childhood. Or it's you saying Ohh that's expensive.
You should get more sleep
@@Eyefornowit IS expensive and they’re RETRO TOYS which IS a large part of everyone’s childhood. Maybe you didn’t get enough toys or maybe not enough hugs. Either way, you’re a grump, get some rest. *hugs*
Haha! Get’m Kim!
I think that the goal of the DC Super Powers or other range of new retro figurines is to create Neoretro as we have seen with cars like the Mustang or Camaro. There was no sense these days to bring out 2 ton square cars again when in the 90s they had evolved towards a modern and aerodynamic appearance. So since then we have found ourselves with modern technologies in cars with obsolete bodies. It's the same with superheroes. In 2011, the New52 wanted to modernize Superman and other DC characters but the public did not accept and the return of Superman in briefs with modern stories had to come back. In the cinema Zack Snyder wanted to give a new, darker and more realistic interpretation of Superman and this was also rejected by the public who preferred the era of Christopher Reeve. So Gunn will release a new Superman in 2025 with a retro look mixed into a current blockbuster film. It is therefore for comics and figurines as for Muscle cars, an era of Neoretro. Modern characters in retro packaging and it's not for nothing that the figurines from James Gunn's Superman film will be published in the DC Super Powers range.
That is a great comparison however toy collectors might know these cars and what they’ve done with them
Scale Tail is the Cobra character, with the poseable tail. Kobra Khan is a He-Man character. :)
You are correct. Sorry about the error
Try putting a nother game on top of that one

@kimazn is an excellent host for this type of show. Or any show, realistically. And yes, Amy (futurama) vibe.
Awesome! Thanks for watching!
Hey! Are you looking for people to interview? I'm a huge TMNT fan and I have tons of toys. I'm also featured on the DVD. Let me know! RJ
Oh yea?
Where are you located?
@@kimazn I am in Atlanta. I was also interviewed for another documentary about TMNT back in 2009. I'm not sure if you've seen videos of Rob Paulsen or Barry Gordon talk about someone they know in a wheelchair... but that's me! RJ
Do you have photos of your collection?

Such a smoke show, good lord.
Which toy? The madball?
@ hands down the madball
Thought so
Well, that was an interesting window into what you do. I was there on Saturday while you were filming, and it seems that most of the length of this video alone. You were in the booth run by Ryan’s friend from FL (I assume Miami area). I saw you moving around a bit as well obviously, but it did show how much editing goes on in one of these and the large portion that doesn’t make it.
So not a fan of grading toys. But cool with grading comics. Yep, I'm a total hypocrite, lol...
Ha that’s ok
Shes the only reason this channel has views

Another great video covering RetroCon. However, I’m surprise you all chose not to face time Froggy Flips on that MAD Ball purchase. Again, great video and keep the content coming!

She’s really pretty and seems friendly & cool. Makes a perfect host. And of course already love the channel & content. So her plus toys is a win lol💯🖤🤘
Thanks for watching!
She is so cute and likes toys😮
Do you like graded toys?
Yup, but I like them loose too. Gotta experience the goods! There is a video in it for you if you go visit AFA's facility (in GA)...😉 Just saying!
No, not my thing.
Not really - they can look good displayed, but it’s an excuse for people to jack up prices on already expensive toys.
Only buy graded, "mint on card" as the cool kids say. Being serious, despite my antics above. It's a significant development in the hobby and creates a market where prices can develop because items become more fungible. Whether that's a good thing or not is for more experienced voices to say.
Nope it's a SCAM
Love when my Saturday lineup gets an upgrade!! Thanks for the video ❤
Upgrade?
Lil ol me, of course!? 😊
Unfortunately until you finish your conquest of complete domination of Saturdays I have to watch "other's" shows lol so yes A huge upgrade to some of the stuff out there. 😁

Nice meeting u at Toy Federation last week. 😊

Loved Boglins as well. That old commercial where the kid feeds his Boglin his side of peas under the table hooked me.
