Rusty Nuts
Приєднався 10 тра 2015
We’ve been riding bikes since the early eighties when Yammy Fizzies were the coolest thing!
Now that theres YewToob its possible to share our passion for all things motorcycle.
Its Rusty Nuts, not because I have a particular medical issue, but because most of my bikes are a bit old.
We race, off road, tour, commute, build, mend, break, love and sometimes hate our bikes.
Content includes…..
BikeReviews - A leg over something classic or modern
QuickGuides (shorts) - A brief bike sum up
Off road - Usually in Wales in mud
Trips+Tours+Events - The pure joy of motorcycle travel
InTheShed - Trying to mend what we’ve broken
Show Reports - If they let me in
MotoLegend - A snapshot of a biking great
And more……
Thanks for watching.

KEFALONIA DREAMING | MORE Scooter FUN (SYM Citicom)
The only way to tour a Greek island is by scooter. Travelling around by car destroys the point of escaping to those warm balmy latitudes. Whereas on the scoot you feel at one with the chilled easy going atmosphere only found in these far flung Mediterranean destinations. Using a full size adventure tourer to tootle around a relatively small island is folly. The scoot elevates the trip into a reasonable challenge especially if some gravel tracks are thrown in. A big adventure tourer would reduce a small island to a quick spin with little endeavour. Get to Greece and get a scooter.

SPAIN | Eastern PROMISE (Moto Morini X-CAPE)
Переглядів 7136 місяців тому
Having sampled the delights of the X-Cape in Madeira it was an easy choice for our Spain trip. We knew it was comfortable, had enough power and was a fun machine. However, we weren’t sure about its off road abilities. Hertz Ride Alicante had one in its rental fleet complete with wire wheels and full luggage, time to find out!

PARGA and AROUND | Scooter FUN (KYMCO DT X360)
Переглядів 2,1 тис.8 місяців тому
We were looking to hire a motorbike, but there were only scooters available in Parga. Luckily the 360cc Kymco was due back the following day so we hired it for five days. What a great machine! It did everything that a motorbike would have done for us, plus it was so convenient to use. The scooter really is the travel companion of southern Europe.
MADEIRA | The UPS and DOWNS (Moto Morini X-CAPE)

We hired a Moto Morini X-Cape for a day out in magnificent Madeira. What a terrific bike, perfect in its ability for the challenging terrain that is this volcanic mountain that protrudes from the Atlantic ocean. Madeira is a true fantasy island, the Hawaii of Europe. With towering cliffs and rugged, forested interior, Madeira is a walkers paradise. Virtually every house has an expansive sea vie...

Magnificent machine, looks like a bike, sounds like a bike, and even the name Guzzi- couldn’t be anything else but a bike.
I’ve been lucky enough to own plenty of Alfas & Guzzis. They’ve all been a joy to own and just drive & ride beautifully; they make you feel special.
Have you lowered the tyre pressures? It is much easier to ride with low pressures.
Yes. The luggage weight was maybe the biggest problem. Plus very soft sand in places. Good challenge though.
Love it 😂❤
Nice video! I have just returned from Morocco. Can you tell me which map is this, it seem pretty good? Thanks.
Hi, thanks. Its the Michelin 742 map.
@@rustynuts82 Was thinking it is the one, thanks for the information.
Great videos and packed full of useful information will be keeping off the sand 😂 when I visit Morocco in 2025.
Thanks. When you get to Merzouga, dump the luggage, let some air out and have a play. Everyone does!
I've got an R80 I bought new in 1989, 170k on the clock and still going strong. I love it!
With minimal maintenance they just go and go. So many modern fi all singing and dancing bikes seem to go wrong constantly. It’s difficult to see the point of a 6 cylinder electronically controlled everything on a motorcycle. Simple is definitely king.
nice wife
Oh yes 😁
Cool stuff guys! You followed the proper route to find the best beaches 👍😁
Wow what fun! Good job 👍
not quite the last dinosaur. KTM rc8r 1190 is newer and just as raw, if not as sexy. 😎
Quite true, the KTM looks more like a dinosaur as well !
@@rustynuts82 you’re not wrong. the 1098 is definitely more beautiful. i damn near bought a beautiful 2007 example in giallo last week. 🤣🤘🏼
Judt bought a 1098
Is there a better sound than the Guzzi V-Twin?
Maybe a Vulcan bomber on full chat or an ERA coming on to the supercharger……otherwise no!
I had a chance to get one cheap back then only 2k miles on it and passed it up like a fool.
Can’t buy them all, but should’ve maybe snagged that one!
I have a copy of this 2015 model and I think it's phenomenal. Power, versatility and speed. Only a little high for those who only have one meter is sixty. Higher boots provide a solution👌👌👌
It’s a very capable bike, with a LOT of power. It tacked some very rocky trails in Wales and a full day crossing the Moroccan Sahara. Unfortunately things have eventually gone wrong, fuel pump failure being the biggest issue.
I love it I had this machine Sound was beautiful like roar but ,too heavy
Agree, I had the 900 Daytona in yellow. Looked great, built like a tank and weighed roughly the same! But that 900 engine with carbs is one of my favourites.
@@rustynuts82 I rode a black 900 Triple. On cold mornings, I couldn't start the engine without performing the ritual of opening the throttle several times. It was heavy, but once I got going, it had no quirks and was one of my favorite motorcycles.
I fitted my xl125 with a cg125 engine, it was excellent. Cg reliability with XL looks.
Yeah, the pushrod motor is pretty bomb proof. My CB through its cam chain off a worn top sprocket causing a fair degree of damage. Not much difference in power either really, just a bit more top end.
I never rode an XL125 but did have a 1989 MTX125 also with Pro link suspension back in 2004, that was the bike I passed my test on. I brought a new CBF125 in 2013 which I ran alongside a Triumph Rocket 3, I even rode the CBF to Norway from the UK. I wouldn't mind a XR125 as a little adventure bike.
Wow, CBF to Norway! No need for a GS it turns out 👍 The little XL is actually a peach off road, so light and nimble but just enough torque.
@@rustynuts82 I did take the CBF off road when wild camping but would imagine the XL could do it much easier.
Yes, the suspension is surprisingly good considering its age. Very soft but quite well damped
Great bike!!
CB125 superdream for me. 10 years and many bikes later, we're on a T7 world raid. Great vid 🤙
My first bike was an 83 XL125R. Learned in mid Wales, road and trails.
Thats a proper introduction to the joys of motorcycling. Did you do the infamous Strata Florida on it ?
@rustynuts82 No, I was a bit further North, did a lot around Machynlleth and Plynlimon. Wish I still had it.
@jbenn43457 yeah, the green desert of Wales! Lovely around there, next time the Mrs wants to have ago up there.
Man I wish me and my wifey are like this when I'm older
Just keep doing daft stuff and you will be !
I was tooling around cwmbran on a cg125 identical to yours, some mates had the xl125 r,one had a tl125 ,another cg125 and a ke 100,we thought we were the kiddies alright, seems lads go straight to cars now,im still biking at 60 with a royal enfield 650gt and a bmw r100rs
Nice, the Conti is a decent bike as is the RS. But ragging around at 17 on a cheapo jap was a lot of fun.
What you guys think i am planning for January ride how is the weather like in Morocco in start of January
Probably snowed in throughout the mountains. Could be fun!
Did you say she has a wet crutch ? Im sure she has
Enjoyed that very much. Looking forward to my next trip to Lake Como. My singular favourite place in Europe. Sad dedication at the end there. Sorry for your loss.
Thanks. Its great travelling across Europe…..particularly the Alps into Italy.
My 1st bike was an XL100S happy days, 1984. I've had all sorts since, now an Aprilia Pegaso 660! Great video...
Thanks. I had an F650 which was basically the same as the Aprilia. Went to Morocco on that bike.
No Yamaha PG-1 in the US? Suckers...
Love my 82 XL250R.. the 125 looks to be the little brother.
Think I need the 250 version to keep up with the Mrs!
@@rustynuts82 only reason I got mine is to keep up with my boy. My ATV wasn't enough. Haha
May I ask your height and if the seat position (and feet positioning ) was comfortable?
Hi, I’m six foot and found the scooter very comfortable. Jane was also very happy on the back. Big scoots are now our go to for touring Greece, you really don’t need more!
My first bike was the 185 version back in 1985 as a 15 yr old....naturaly i killed it and then bought an ex NZ police cb 650
Was it the dreaded cam sprocket wearing out allowing the chain to jump off that killed it?
@@rustynuts82 no, i crashed into a mate while messing about and we both went to hospital ...oh to be young and stupid again! 👍😆
I could whine about you making fun of women, blah, blah, blah, but she was laughing so it's okay....
Strange angle ?
@jamesonpace726 I don’t see how it’s making fun of women, maybe Jane a little but she’s got a sense of humour and can kick his ass if she needs to!
Correct!
@@bigberthaontourHey! BB on tour! Another very lucky man with a wife who rides bikes. Will we ever get to see the four of you off road on those great bikes?? Les
Hi Rich. A joy to be reminded! I had a 77 xl 125, twin shock, orange tear drop tank. When i moved to London from Blackpool, i rode the A6 having a pint in as many Boddies pubs as i remembered to stop at...I don't remember how many that was......
Great little bikes those Honda singles. I did a similar long trip on my CB125. Derby to St Davids, 250 miles mostly in the rain!
@@rustynuts82 yeah not a great fairing! On another note: i contacted you last year about sharing a ride down your way, on my GS 1250. Well...had it nicked for the 3rd time in March. Can no longer get any kind of theft insurance, tho undeterred (foool) I've bought the ancestor that came out in my late teens...R80 GS and am still up for getting it dirty..assuming i can hang on to it!
@@touchingthecloth 80GS hey! Yeah, a good candidate for some byway action in mid wales 👍
Looking absolutely beautiful on that bike Jane bbz! Cute bike, cute lady Xxxx
Suits her very well doesn’t it, although the kick start is a bit high. She rode through the river with me on the back!
Poor Jane…why does Jane need to know if it’s got an overhead cam engine?! Let her ride the damn bike 🤣 Great vid 💪
Jane loves a good engine. She knows a LOT about multi-jet diesels but is new to the delights of little four stroke Hondas.
@@rustynuts82 Looking forward to the Alfa Romeo video next!
Oh yes! 125s rule. What a lovely little bike. You are a lucky man, you have a wife who is prepared to ride a motorbike, AND she lets you have a go on it. She deserves 11/10. Les 🇬🇧
I am a very lucky man, especially now that I can have a go on the XL !
I had a '99 half faired IE model. Lovely power, but the heavy clutch and odd angle of the bars meant it was painful after 20 mins.
I can never understand why so many bikes have a heavy clutch action. A decent cable run with a good lever at the end works perfectly well on a bike. Hydraulic clutches are so often heavier!
Beautiful… thank you 🙂
What a beautiful engine sound. Welcome to my country! Enyoy it!
Thanks, we love touring in Spain and Portugal!
Wonderful! Thank you for sharing your experience, and wish you safe riding. I will use this information to help plan next years visit. Chers!
The added fairing is on point. Gorgeous
Great and detailed break down 💪🏽
Hello, motard friend. I'm a 54 year old biker, with more than a 45 years riding bikes, and, always japanese bikes. Now i'm looking for a Guzzi, but i don't want new models i'm looking eighty and ninety models. I'm ride all the year, doesn't matter, rain, sun, cold, warm, i prefer ride in motorcycle, but, i'm looking for something with soul, and Japanese bikes don't have soul, is a fact. Are fantastic and reliable bikes but, no soul. Do you think that a 1000S is a reliable bike? problems for find spare parts? it's a bike for every day, and every season? can carry a load for a one or two weeks travel? I'm do it araound 25k or 35k kilometers every year, could the guzzi survive over 150k or more kilometers without dead? Some other model? like, the T3 perhaps? Sorry for the length of the message and thanks a lot in advance. See you in the roads!
An 80/90s Guzzi is a great travel companion! My 1000S has been 100% reliable for 25 years. The carb versions are my favourite as they retain the simplicity and rugged nature that makes a Guzzi such a great travel machine. The Spada 1000 was the Guzzi tourer in the 80s. The California is very capable but not everyone’s taste in style. Any big block set up for comfort is capable of huge mileage without issue. The later fuel injected bikes are excellent but can be troublesome.
@@rustynuts82 Thank you so much Rusty for your answer. Yes, i'm looking for a carb version, more reliable, more simple and, of course, a bike from my youth. I repeat, thanks a lot.
Great scenery, well done! I am in Valais Switzerland, and the Stelvio is definitely on my to do list.
So many epic roads to ride in the Alps, the Stelvio is a mecca for petrol heads!
What pipes are those? They sound fantastic
On the blue bike they are stainless steel single cross over system by Keihan exhausts in UK
the sound is awful
Glad you enjoyed it 👍
@@rustynuts82 and the most hypocritical answer goes to….. you! 😅
Glad you enjoyed the answer !
thank you great review, i was interested in you large rubber strap holding the key in.
The key vibrates loose and the bike stops! I think it’s a girls hair band.
Drove more then 500.000 km on BMW simply the best❤❤❤
That’s a distance that qualifies as a decent review mileage!
Honda GBR500 is probably recognised as the first retro motorcycle
The GBR was a throwback bike but was it a retro? Honda were doing a take on the classic British single, but they never built them originally. Whereas the 1000S is a retrospective of the original Guzzi 750S, a true retro…….so in my view the GB500 doesn’t count.
By the way, great share of your experience. Thank you mate
Thanks, it’s a great place to visit.
Were you guys able to buy or drink some beers? Alcohol in general?
Beer is usually available in hotels
